Yes they are passive pickups, don't let anybody tell you otherwise. The pickup does come with an active boost which you can turn on/off with a push/pull pot, but the pickup is passive.

Funny thing is though, I put a pair of EMGs into my Schecter Omen 7 and all I'm running it through is a little Line 6 Spider IV 15 and it sounds almost the same as Alexi does here. Only problem is that it probably won't sound the same at high volumes. Oh well.

I know my playing needs work .. but I know also that my tone is waaay better than my playing. I'd have to go semi-pro with a good record deal to begin to quibble with the quality of my gear. The ESP one is 3000$, and it has best component, he don't need something better.

Actually I don't like EMG pickups, but this one interested me. My friend has it, and he tells me that booster is a very cool feature of this set. Without it it sounds like PAF-like pickup with low output and good cleans (EMG HZ-H2), but booster changes all the things dramatically and it's level can change the sound as you like. I think it's very cool, that's why I'm looking forward to trying it :)

That's the volume pot yes,

It's a push pull pot, so when it's pressed down the gain boost will be active and when it's pulled up the gain boost will be in active.

I don't really recommend this pack to be honest, the idea of buying a passive pup to have it run into an active gain boost all the time seems a bit silly and pointless.
