There I said it. She was a spoilt brat who got everything in the end. I liked her when she was a companion but when she left they overkilled it a bit too much. Anyway as soon as he regenerated the 11th doctor forgot about her. I don't think Martha was the best but she was WAY better than Rose, sure she may have swooned over the docotr but Rose sorta did too. Catherine Tate was the best outta them all.

martha jones was likely the smartest most self capable companion. I did not like her as a companion for those reasons. she just wasn't proper side kick material. also she is drop dead gorgeous,so I don't get the girl next door comparison. i think martha took care of and saved the doctor far too much. I prefer cathrine tate, she was the best out of all them, she was dirt stupid, a little unattractive and always in need of rescue which made the doctor seem smarter, sexier and more capable.
I think both are great, of course I loved the doctor and rose more, but think about it, if it weren't for martha Jones, they would still be imprissoned in that ship in the sky, Rose wouldn't have left the doctor their, she would stay, and they'd be trapped forever, Martha had the strenght to leave him. You hated Martha? Aw :( . For me, the order of companions in the new series, from best to worst, is Rose, Amy, Martha, and then Donna. But Amy and Martha are just kind of tied because it's really too close to call. In terms of hotness, Amy, Rose, Martha, and Donna. Yeah, sorry, but Catherine Tate just loses out every time for me. She's great on her own sketch show, but not as a companion IMHO.

@masteraj57 we hate her because even though she knows the doctor's in pain - she doesn't let him mourn or anything, right from the start she starts hitting on him, trying things, even though he states that she's not replacing rose. She has no respect! Then she makes snarky comments like "good old rose", simply being rude. I can't stand her.
Donna is brilliant, she remembers Rose's name and asks about her - caring about the doctor and his feelings. They're like siblings, they're great!
@mickaaans I will admit i posted that when i was biased, i do like Martha but i realize now that she was a bit pushy with the doctor. i think the character had alot of potential but the direction the writers took her in ruined the character. she spent to much time pining over the doctor even after she married Mickey.(which was a bit of a shock)
@masteraj57 yeah, it's really too bad because freema is a great actress, really and even now, as such an anti-martha person, I actually like her in those scenes just before she first met the doctor when she's just being martha, the genuine martha! @mickaaans think about it though. Rose couldn't be bitter or anything as she got everything. Her dad died, she got another one, she wanted to spend her life with the doctor, she got the clone. She was also very clingy towards the doctor was always very jealous.
Martha got nothing. She had to live in the shadow of Rose. No bloody wonder she was a bit rude at times and no wonder she left.

Also, if Martha was "always jealous", then Rose can be blamed of that too. Especially in series 2, she became over - possessive IMO, and was often jealous of other girls the Doctor interacted with. It works both ways really, Rose often showed selfish traits whereas Martha was always selfless, she saved the world single - handedly , not to mention was smart and pretty! I've never understood the Martha hate.

I find your reasoning unfair. You said "she swooned all over the doctor from day one." To be fair, so did Rose and it became quite OTT with Ten. (I've always thought she had the most chemistry with Nine)
You said "she was always jealous of Rose". So yeah she did fancy the Doctor and Ten DID treat her pretty much like dirt. He deliberately made references to Rose, especially early on in series 3 (TSC springs to mind), so it's no wonder that Martha felt how she did, always in Rose's shadow.

I feel sorry for Martha :( It wasn't her fault that she felt that way about the Doctor, and she felt so strongly that she got angry when the Doctor didn't reciprocate.

She was upset about him talking down to her all the time and mistreating her, maybe that's what you're thinking of. Martha didn't get angry at her for not returning her feelings though. Really don't know why everyone has to make people 'rivals' when relationships are involved. Not every group of girls who know the same guy feel for him the same way. I notice less people put Donna as a rival because she was older, more mature less 'modernly' attractive so its like they don't put her there but people either hate martha or rag on rose. o_O Did anyone properly watch the show? Then there should be no arguing, the show was rather clear at establishing relationships.

Rose and Martha didn't have anything against each other either, so why everyone thinks they hate each other I'll never know. Also, that's not PROOF that Rose is the best companion. It proves that she loved the Doctor, but that doesn't prove she's the best companion. Writing an achievement of hers would have been better. I love Martha and Rose! Rose is a great character, she's strong, beautiful, and kind. She always knows what to say and was a wonderful companion. Martha is also brave, brilliant, and strong. I know the doctor loved Rose, and I love them as a couple. Rose and the Doctor belong together, but Martha can't help her feelings.for the doctor. Honestly, who wouldn't react the same in her position?

She's jealous of a girl she's never met because the man she loves is still hung up about her! Rose was just brilliant. Martha is simply older. And more obsessive. And generally annoying. I prefer her post-Doc, when she got over him finally. So much more use from her.

Rose made 9 a better person, but once ten came along both of them became smug, cruel, and uncaring. Even Donna points out that after Rose and him were seperated he was a cruel, uncaring killer and after Martha left and changed him for the better he turned into a good person and let the adipose live. martha jones was likely the smartest most self capable companion. I did not like her as a companion for those reasons. she just wasn't proper side kick material. also she is drop dead gorgeous,so I don't get the girl next door comparison. i think martha took care of and saved the doctor far too much. I prefer cathrine tate, she was the best out of all them, she was dirt stupid, a little unattractive and always in need of rescue which made the doctor seem smarter, sexier and more capable.

Also, if Martha was "always jealous", then Rose can be blamed of that too. Especially in series 2, she became over - possessive IMO, and was often jealous of other girls the Doctor interacted with. It works both ways really, Rose often showed selfish traits whereas Martha was always selfless, she saved the world single - handedly , not to mention was smart and pretty! I've never understood the Martha hate.

I find your reasoning unfair. You said "she swooned all over the doctor from day one." To be fair, so did Rose and it became quite OTT with Ten. (I've always thought she had the most chemistry with Nine)
You said "she was always jealous of Rose". So yeah she did fancy the Doctor and Ten DID treat her pretty much like dirt. He deliberately made references to Rose, especially early on in series 3 (TSC springs to mind), so it's no wonder that Martha felt how she did, always in Rose's shadow.

Really don't know why everyone has to make people 'rivals' when relationships are involved. Not every group of girls who know the same guy feel for him the same way. I notice less people put Donna as a rival because she was older, more mature less 'modernly' attractive so its like they don't put her there but people either hate martha or rag on rose. o_O Did anyone properly watch the show? Then there should be no arguing, the show was rather clear at establishing relationships.

Also, that's not PROOF that Rose is the best companion. It proves that she loved the Doctor, but that doesn't prove she's the best companion. Writing an achievement of hers would have been better. @MermaidJess22 Well the Doctor sent Rose to the Parallel Universe twice, and kept Martha on his side of the Parallel Universe, plus he picked-up and hugged Martha more in one series than he ever did Rose in two. I think the Doctor knew he could easily fall in love with Martha but was scared to by all he'd previously lost. The Doctor didn’t have to kiss Martha's lips to make a "genetic transfer", he wanted to kiss her.

@Lucille7777 Bleh. Doctor/Martha is my most disliked pairing no matter how much he liked her or not. Atleast he was nice to Rose. He didn't deserve Martha. He was a douche bag to her. Martha can do ALOT better than him. Maybe it would be sexy pairing for a one night stand complete with a maid's outfit, spanking, and humilation because we know the Doctor loves to hurt her, but other than that the Doctor/Martha idea is just sick. Martha's too good for him.

I would like to see the Doctor eat his heart out seeing Martha with a real hulk and equal to the Doctor (Mickey is sweet and really deserved better than Rose, but Martha is out of his league).

If they do have anything of a relationship, the relationship they have should be short lived and not too emotionally involved. He doesn't deserve her and never did. The only thing she has over him is that he never got to know the remarkable woman who saved his life so many times so why give him what he wants? @Lucille7777 much don't we? ;) Yes, Martha is out of Mickey's league, but the Doctor did have to see them together and eat his heart out. Well, really, he was 'getting his reward' by doing Mickey one last favor and saving Martha's life so Mickey could remain happy with her. He didn't look to happy about that so there can be your satisfaction of seeing the Doctor 'eating his heart' out. Of course, he was doing Mickey a favor at the time and not staring at them in jealousy like you wanted

I love Martha and Rose! Rose is a great character, she's strong, beautiful, and kind. She always knows what to say and was a wonderful companion. Martha is also brave, brilliant, and strong. I know the doctor loved Rose, and I love them as a couple. Rose and the Doctor belong together, but Martha can't help her feelings.for the doctor. Honestly, who wouldn't react the same in her position?

i think this is a perfect song for martha. I have to say I didn't hate her, just hated the unrequited love thing going on. Personally I think the doctor kind of treated martha like she was either invisible or he was constantly comparing her to Rose. I'm pretty sure that would annoy anyone.

Thats the whole point of Martha
She's jealous of a girl she's never met because the man she loves is still hung up about her! If it was just the same set up as Doctor & Rose and him falling for Martha it wouldn't work and would ruin what the doctor and rose had. Dynamics and and situations are meant to be shaken up and changed otherwise we would have the same show for 40 years. In some sense your suppose to be put into an uncomfortable situation because she's so different from rose!

i actually like martha a bit more than rose. wasn't marth athe only companion who really helped the doctor i mean properly. first when he became human and forgot all about what she meant to him. and then the whole master thing. she was the smartest he's had as well as probably the bravest ;) . but love the video ;)

And how about her changing him to the good side, dragging him out of the darkness he was blinded by after the War?
And many any other things?
Rose was just brilliant. Martha is simply older. And more obsessive. And generally annoying. I prefer her post-Doc, when she got over him finally. So much more use from her.

@atemuamadare Excuse me, but it is pointed out on the show that Martha is the one who made the Doctor a better person. Rose made 9 a better person, but once ten came along both of them became smug, cruel, and uncaring. Even Donna points out that after Rose and him were seperated he was a cruel, uncaring killer and after Martha left and changed him for the better he turned into a good person and let the adipose live. It's not only pointed out on the show that Martha made him a better person,

@atemuamadare but RTD says it in the confidentials too. Don't get me wrong, I hated the idea of Doctor/Martha because he was such a jerk to her. I love Doctor/Rose, but I'm not so blind as to think Rose is the one who made him a better person. I wouldn't call Martha obsessive either. She had a crush on a guy she was finally able to get close to without her mother screwing it up. Who wouldn't fall for the Doctor? Besides Martha got over it by season 4 anyway.

She got out of both the Doctor's and Rose's shadows and bcame a better person. If you like Rose better, that's fine because it's your opinion, but I love Martha. Regardlesss, she doesn't deserve to have kill Martha videos made about her.

I also like how she was the most human while saving everyone and she did the right thing instead of what was easy.

Actually, Martha and the Master (Jacobi) are totally awesome but I digress...
I used to ship Rose/Doctor. Then Martha came along and did something remarkable...she used her BRAIN.
She had the audacity to rescue HERSELF...instead of relying on the Doctor to do it for her.
So I'm giving it up to her! It's nice to see a girl 'save the world' on her own. It's a rarity, and it's lovely to behold.
