I can see why Wang was pissed about Kim. The studio's excuse was that SOMEONE of the main cast HAS to be the ensign to round out all the ranks. But that's just ridiculous and it totally hampered Kim's potential to never elevate him in 7 years.

@AtenRa yea I think he said something about because he was asian he never got a promotion throughout the series except for the future KIM which he was the captain. I think he was kind of right because paris had so many violation and disciplined so many times he still got one and Kim has so much contribution . It sounded more like paris admiral dad had something to do with his promotion

@AtenRa The thing is, he was supposed to have been kicked off in season 4 instead of Kes, so the excuse doesn't wash. They had people lower then him: he outranked Krd and Neelix, and later Seven of Nine, Icheb, and Naomi Wildman.
They just were afraid that Lieutenant Kim wouldn't have the appeal of Ensign Kim. They just didn't want to change his "name." They thought we'd get confused.

Ha! That's priceless.
Janeway's voice never bothered me, but I remember there was at least one episode early on where I really thought Mulgrew had a cold the way her voice sounded, and I thought, couldn't they wait to film when her voice cleared? But no, I don't think it was a cold, I think sometimes she just sounded more smurfy than others.

It's usually held the first or second week of August in Las Vegas every year. And it's pretty expensive - the ticket packages are, minimum, $400; but those are likely to spike up a bit because of the economic downfall.
Good luck with trying to convince you dad, lol. I've been trying for fifteen years :p
