  • For a zen master, he sounds a bit like a drill instructor. A little 'in your face' if you will.

  • lol..youtube comments..you gotta love 'em. I came here to get more meditation tips and you guys are talking about god and satan...lmao.

  • You don't need to sit in a particular way to meditate. You can meditate every second of your living life. I meditate while I'm driving, shopping, in the office or when I am sleeping. This form of meditation has enhanced my life and the way I observe my surrounding. Meditation is a journey to realize your own mind and exploring it thoroughly to better understand yourself.

By the way, I didn't need a god to meditate; this is because I am an atheist.

  • Hahahhaha...and who are you that you teach Budhist Zen Meditation?

  • I swear thats Kumar from harold and kumar.

  • @fuckmania07 Believe the way your heart tells you and be free...TRULY free! There is NO freedom in a religion that teaches you will be tortured for all eternity if you don't believe one certain way. There is NO freedom in a religion which forces guilt on its followers and tells them that they are evil and no good unless they bow down and worship a jealous, vengeful, wrathful yet, somehow, also loving (LOL) god. If this is the crutch you chose to lean on fine, but quit spewing hate!

  • @fuckmania07 God is so kind and generous, that if one chooses to live how one chooses, then one will be sent to hell. Here are some questions I believe you may consider forbidden. Why did god create evil and Satan? Why did god tell the Israelites to slaughter all the Amalekites? If god is all-powerful, why does he fight Satan, when god could make be so that Satan never existed? If God knows everything, why does he create souls that he knows will go straight to hell?

  • Blah blah fucking blah blah. Just sit.

  • I noticed Some Christians tend to rebuke what they don't understand they are blind and unconscious minded

  • ssshhhhaaaannnntttee brother

  • THX allot, but i want to know, why zen.

and why is it so important to for example put you right hand under the left one why not the other way (just curiosity)

  • is this a video for the dharma initiative?

  • Tried alot of meditation methods. Zen seems to work best for me. In my house, its non-stop calamity. Nobody knows how to stay quiet. Either its phone conversations, the television, juvenile delinquents outside, music playing, etc. And I have my job. Zen meditation is my outlet early mornings, keeps my sanity.

  • @truthinlifeful1 Very enlightening.

  • @truthinlifeful1 To be perfectly honest...I don't even know how I got to this to begin with. But I thought it sounded fishy. Thanks for justifying my feelings.

  • @truthinlifeful1 Then they failed to follow his teachings didn't they? I mean, if they can't even follow the most basic of his teachings (that he is only a man), how can they expect to be able to teach his more difficult ones?

  • @kingofthering24 Faiths that share a common figure have their very own interpretations. Who's right and who's wrong - this debate is generally senseless as it pretty much depends on which religion you adhere to and which interpretation you choose to believe. Jesus may be Son of God to Christians, but Muslims only regard him as a prophet, and Jews don't even recognize his prophethood nor divinity. Which one is right? No one knows - and each religious group will tell you that theirs is the truth.

  • @Mrwilwak I generally agree with this type of thinking but lately I've been wondering if having a proper structure is important for transmitting the tradition. Otherwise, people would sort of just being doing what they want and eventually some things may be lost. That said, at my spiritual height, I didn't really know the right posture and it didn't matter at the time. When that initial energy was lost, however, I began to go down a more established path so I'm beginning to learn proper posture.

  • om

  • I need some advice here, becoming balanced and relaxed is an incredible obstacle for me to overcome due to several spinal injuries, broken tail bone, herniated lumbar discs, bulging discs in my neck. I have broken past all these barriers before to where my body resonated with vibrations so powerful I could not feel pain, or fear, or hate, only pure love. But getting there is sometimes far too difficult. What can I do to break these barriers holding me back?

  • "Lord Buddha" WTF Buddha was not a lord what BS

  • Maybe you can explain, but didn't Buddha say he never wanted to be called a lord or God/

  • Comment removed

  • @kingofthering24 Lord in Buddhism doesn't mean God in the Abrahamic faiths. Lord is a way of addressing the Buddha, the great teacher, and a sign of respect to him. It's the same way that In medieval England, the subjects of the King did say "My lord" (other than My majesty etc) when speaking with the King - and for sure, the Lord meant to address the King wasn't God in this sense.

  • @kingofthering24 He didn't, The word "Lord" is a title with various meanings.

  • @TommyTurntables1 Buddha didn't wish to be called a lord eithet. He wanted to be known simply as a man.

  • @kingofthering24 Yes. Sammasambuddha Gotama is not a god or lord. He was a greatest teacher ever who teached humans how to reconcile and resolve all problems of life by relying on their own efforts. Thank you

  • @budyboy72 Right on

  • @kingofthering24 that's where the Buddhist followers split in two the ones that believed he was a god and the others believed he was still human but an amazing one at the least.

  • @Nuk3Fish Hmm...interesting.

  • @kingofthering24 Buddha also didn't say that he didn't want to be called a chicken, but we don't call him a chicken do we? Nice excuse to be troll. Anything else?

  • @bryan3184 Actually, I was genuinely asking a question. That's why I started with "maybe you can explain" instead of "haha, fuckin loser, you don't know what buddha taught" See the difference? If anything, you're the attempt at a troll. Not me. But please, feel free to try again.

  • @fuckmania07 First off, I take little heed of things said by someone who chooses an account name of "Fuckmania07". Secondly, like most who use christianity as a form of intimidation to reinforce their own selfish beliefs, allow me to educate you on this...Buddhism is not a religion, rather a philosophy. Buddha was not a god, nor prophet. He was a human man, who chose to educate others on "Enlightenment" and how to achieve this. Please educate yourself before you spew hate.

  • @fuckmania07 The ignorance. Buddhism isn't a religion it's a pholosify or a way of life. And if there is a hell; why should Buddha 'burn there' he did nothing wrong, he never claimed to be a god or prophet. He was simply an enlightened man who taught what he considered to be the purest way of life and the key to true happiness.

  • @fuckmania07 "Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned." - Buddha

  • @fuckmania07 1 Samuel 15:3 sooo ... God is the God of love and forgiveness, but also the god of genocide?

  • I am a practicing Zen Buddhist and would love to have a few subscribers. Thanks!

  • heyyyyyyyyyyyyy don't open your third eyes because you are sitting on that..hahahha

  • @strangerlover11 lololol

  • @fuckmania07 Ahhh...the gentle, loving "god" of the Bible and his wonderful, non-judgmental, followers. I get such a warm fuzzy feeling when I read such peaceful quotes from enlightened ones such as yourself. I mean, what's not to love about a religion in which you are only allowed to believe one way and anyone who believes otherwise is evil and destined to burn for all eternity? Just wonderful. Also, I hope you use your Youtube name while worshiping your false god in church. LMFAO

  • You don't have to be Buddhist to mediate with this technique right? I just want to relax, and though I have great respect for buddhists an their teachings,I am not one.

  • @v0lquete yea you still can mediate :)

  • If u meditate once and only one... Is it normal for u to basically stop thinking for 3 days?

  • @papagronk There are links online.. if you do a search for "zen furniture" in google it provides a few sites.. I hope this helps, I was doing a similar search recently and came across a few pages.

  • @hexcane

Ah, don't be so hard on her. She openly admits on her website that it is purely entertainment, therefore she herself is a joke, along with everything she claims to be and the beliefs she pushes onto others.

    "By Law I Must State:

Psychic Readings, Reiki Attunements, and Karma/Aggression Clearing Are For Entertainment Purpose Only. "

More than likely her parents had similar beliefs, or she has had some great loss in her life and this is the only way she can deal with it.

  • Can someone please direct me to a seller for those pillows (my apologies- I know they have a particular name). I am a beginner. Thank you.

  • i would like to get some input. anyone can comment please...

  • Streaching, breathing, focusing. It all is wonderful but i am having trouble with accepting to be at peace. intruding thoughts, and questions in my mind cause me to lose focus on finding the over all GOAL of meditation. What is the goal? how can i expect the unexpected. I believe the third eye opens a gate to beautiful visuals or dreams or may be its just a place where i can sit inside my mind and find peace. Are there visuals? hallucinations? freedom? or is this crazy talk. enlighten me...

  • @crazyman334455 Stop all this pretending. There is no you that is separate. There is no system to get you to the here and NOW! See your confusion inwardly. There are no problems outside yourself.

  • @barnyakj What do you mean?

  • Is this the meditation used in martial arts, where when exhaling, one expands the stomach and not the chest?

  • Do not look at anyone as a higher being because you are not who you think you are. You are only temporary. Tomorrow you will be a day older, possibly taller, maybe have facial hair but the real you is on the inside...

  • @hexcane There is not such thing Right or Wrong. I cannot say you are Wrong. Everyone has a right to his or her own Opinion. As I myself Am Not Wrong In Saying I Am Psychic. I am NOT Defined By What (You) Think of Me, I am Defined By (Who I Am), I am What I do & How I live. I love My Life, My Family, My Friends, & I Am Very Happy In My Life. I Pray that you find happiness, then you will not find the need to try to insult others, or make them try to believe (your words) Bless You Dear One!

  • Can you be a christian and do this?

  • @austin99203 You really shouldn't be restricted by religion. Meditation is for everyone.

  • @austin99203

I hope so because I am in the same boat as you. I am confident that the answer is yes. Buddha is not taking the place of Christ or any other religious figure. His teachings are simply helping us to become more spiritual, as I see it now.

  • I must thank full to offering such art to people. Great!

    Samir

  • You didnt actually say anything about zen meditation. Just the posture.

  • @zimonslot i guess getting the posture right first will then get you ready for the actual meditation. i don't know, i'm just guessing. have a good one

  • i'm going to start on zazen meditation.

gonna read a few books about zen buddhism too.

  • Thank You For Sharing Your Meditation Techniques I Am A Born Psychic Medium and Your Videos Really Are Educational to Help With My Own Journey! Love & Light!

  • Monks are the best @ meditation

  • I love you!!! I love this meditation method. Thank you for posting!:)

  • How long can one be on zen meditation or in other words what is the ultimate goal in zen meditation.. there are rooms that we must pass and one of then is with no doubt empty as let us say a white wall (not even that empty) anyway.. I don't want to stay in that room more than the necessary to cross the frontier.. it is like a white military uniform forget it .. In my army I don't want any zen master.. in fact they can be my enemy.. forget the white in your flag and swallow the whole sun.. sorry.

  • another great vid .. isnt this ( zazen ) and vipassana very similar....

  • You mention how important posture is but do not explain why. Can you please tell me why? I have started to practice meditation myself, but I find keeping my back straight eventually tires the muscles and breaks my concentration, so I often end up slouching over and relaxing... Im guessing this is a bad habit?

  • great dude.

    i'm gonna try this technique.

  • why do you take adverts on your videos? as soon as I saw that, commercialism, I switched off.

  • Excellent

  • thanks for these vids there very helpful ^_^ but ive been wondering does anyone know where kuji kiri is from and kuji in? its buddhism too right?

  • Open eyes are VERY important !!!!!

  • Dogen said that even a minute of zazen each day makes a difference.

  • you are the buddha!

  • @MaxPFC My friend, I believe you misunderstood his original intent. He was simply saying that Buddha is like a human being like everyone else, and that he has no divinity. Now, there are certain sects of Buddhism who believe this, but the majority of its religion does not. Maviowl wasn't claiming he was divine or Buddha, he was just making a point for people to understand that Buddha isn't godly.

  • very nice and interesting:)

  • i read that u use the dominant hand depending on which is the dominant one on the bottom of your mundra. myleft hand wants to be underneath.

  • wheres the article explaining breathing?

  • Excellent video

  • waste of time

  • Comment removed

  • I really aprreciate that you took the time out to instruct on how to meditate. i shall head over to the site and read.

  • Them cushions are cool as, i want one. Lol!

  • Having trouble finding part one. You should post the part in the title. Thank you.

  • Good video about ZaZen

  • Abrahamic religions for the weak, cowardly & lazy. Don't worry about what u do in life, just make sure u repent, beg & grovel like crazy! The pleased king will put u up in a 5 star hotel for eternity! No wonder christians can't wait to die. NOT!

Moksha is EARNED, never begged for nor given. Heaven & Hell are right here on Earth, we make them happen thru our efforts, not God. Hinduism, Buddhism are religions for the Strong, Brave & active

  • I am hearing two voices on this video saying two different scripts????

  • @lionblackabyss7

    Hi there,

you probably had the video running in two browsers... Please let us know if that problem persists.

    Thanks,

    AnmolMehtaYoga

  • @AnmolMehtaCom

I like your focus on correct posture while meditating!

Have you ever tried to meditate while assuming the One Finger Zen posture? ;)

  • @lionblackabyss7 go see a doctor u fuckin goon

  • @survivalskill You're an idiot. I was talking about the audio on my computer. Get a job or an education....make yourself useful.

  • @lionblackabyss7 The second voice is your conciousness.

  • @lionblackabyss7 hearing voices eh? LOL might have 2 tabs with same video on. cause its only has one voice that im hearing

  • don't count, just observe the breath. Be aware of every sensation. The feeling on the end of your nose, the movement of your diaphragm, and any other sensations in the body. The mind will chatter, but you are not invested in the chatter and so it dissipates. You are just aware. Simply aware.

  • y do u do this?

  • do you breath through your nostrils only? Or do you combine it with the mouth as well, so the inhale is through the nose while the exhale is from the mouth. Thanks.

  • You could count in and out as 1 breath. Count to nine breathes. Then start again at one. Count to eight breathes. Then start at one and count to seven. etc.

You see, the point is to concentrate on the breath and occupy the mind that way. Other thoughts then have limited mind space to form. Counting makes this happen.

Counting occupies a mind that wants to think of other things.

When you feel, and experience the less mindful state, you can practice on entering it without counting

  • @JohnnyRock2000 Just tried that for about 7 minutes. Works great. I feel amazing!

  • @xLuckyLuciano - You can do it while trying to go to sleep too. If you really concentrate on the counting, and if thoughts do occur, (and they will), just immediately return to the counting - the next thing you know you will be waking up in the morning. No matter what state of mind you are in - it can be vacated with this concentration technique.

  • How does one focus more on the breath? do you count every 10 and repeat while is focused meditation? Thank you

  • one for breathe in two for breathe out, three for in, four for out, five for in, and then start again....but in the future you wont need to concentrate on the breath anymore.

  • thank u i was wondering how that works and also just to let u no that if u keep this up u will also act like a wolf or dog if u ever hear your dog bark at anyone that walks through or it hates one person and loves everyone else it is because that person gives off a wierd fibe or has nagative evergy and u will want that person out of your life and or seperate from them

  • " God Bless You All" Are You Buddhits or Catholic?

  • any different?

  • great video Anmol, thx again

  • shouldnt it be the left hand under??

  • @xxmotionxx305 No, left hand always sits in the right hand.

  • @NeverTheSame says who? and for what purpose?

  • @ad627 Every Zen master I have sat with instructed their students to hold the left hand in the right. Some say the dominant hand should hold the other though. In the end it's a very insignificant issue, and if it's going to cause dischord, please feel free to hold the right hand in the left.

  • yes, but it depends what your primary hand is. Ifs that left or right? if it's right hand, this should embrace the left hand.

  • This is a very peaceful video. I am sure longer chants of the AUM Mantra will be very benficial.

  • Hello there, first of all i'd really like to thank you for the video it has really helped me with my meditation techniques. I was Just wondering what type of cushion you are sitting on and where i cou;d get one?

When i first came across this video i practised the techniques straight away and fell into a two hour meditation which was absolutly amazing. I'm also about to attemp replacing sleep with meditation which i am really looking forward too.

    Thank you.

  • Evidently meditation is NOTHING like what I thought.

  • very helpful, thank you

  • why he didn't tell how should we breath and count?

  • Surprised that he offers the option, eyes

    closed or eyes open.

The rest of his advice would be more helpful, if he gave the reasons for for

holding your body in the suggested method.Discipline is good, discomfort isn't it will only discourage a beginner.

Sometimes people get caught up in

the ritual of technique, at the expense

    of the goals of meditation.

  • Thanks for your thoughtful and valuable feedback. You will find those details in the free article on the website associated with this video on AnmolMehta (dot) com.

  • @fntime i have found that the main goal is to drift off. I find keeping my eyes open as better for me, when you reach a point of not being aware that your eyes are open, your really deep into meditation. Also discomfort vrs no discomfort doesn't really matter much, but you can use the discomfort to help block out everything, once you can forget your discomfort.

  • tldm

  • there must be something wrong with me because when I sit like that I have to use alot of strength to keep my back straight and it hurt and cracks

  • That's what is suppose to happen.

    It's called discipline.

  • that's why he's got the cushion.

the way I figure it, what's important is relaxing. Could probably do it in a flotation tank if you want.

  • keep going at it for a couple of months and it will get better. don't stress it however.

  • stretch your hips and hamstrings and strengthen your abdomen, it supports your posture.

  • try to oberve your pain just like other bodily sensations without giving it any special attention - Vipassana meditation could be helpful

  • Great lesson! So far, the best explained meditation online.

Bravo! Excellent explanation, no fluff, no filling.

    great job! and Thank you!

    Namaste

  • Why Lord Buddha? He was just a regular guy.

  • A regular guy??!!! He showed all Buddhists the way. If it weren't for him, we would just keep on repeating the same cycle over and over again- birth, suffering, illness, death, birth, suffering, illness, death... He's a great spiritual leader, and that's why he's "Lord Buddha".

  • Buddha isn't a teacher; Buddha isn't someone in the past. Buddha is always already right now.

  • Dont not look to buddha as a higher being that once was he was a teacher simply acknowledge his teachings you are the buddha you are the einstein and everything else!

  • @maviowl

    Well put ,

Jiddu krishnamurti said this one of my favorite teachers

  • @maviowl No you are not einstein, neither are you god or any other omnipotent being. You might like to think that you are, but let me assure you these are delusions on your part. Unless you can do advanced string theory computations, walk on water etc. You are not these people and I don't see why it is so important to delude themselves into thinking something which even a child could tell you is rediculous. Ancient peoples have always wanted to believe man is semi devine eg: Hercules.

  • More people should take into account these old techiques. Humanity may remember what it was to be pure.

  • Great video, really helpful. I was having trouble remaining up-right and my back wanted to arch and collapse into "normal mode", and then you show us the secret cushion. Where can I get one?

  • The spaces in between in/out are a great lesson in patience, birth and death.

It's funny how we fiddle with our breathing in subtle ways during day/night; we tend to "grab the wheel" and only go against the grain of what already should come natural.

Letting go- enjoying the moment. Become a part of it and your breathing will fall into a cadence with it.

    Play jazz.

  • Got into nondual state... in which talking and understanding and emptiness that is all that form were just IS.

  • Anmol , where can i buy a zabuton like the on your sitting on in the UK please? many thanks. Peace.

  • You can do a mantra(One) and connect it to the out-breath and have a meditation that can relax and focus.

It's the most simple, easy and blissful meditation.

I've been doing this for 5 years.

It can be done in a lazyboy chair.

I've been told it's not Zen, even though I stole it from Zen. I got tired of breath-counting to ten; honestly it was making my mind worse.

Saying "one" in your head throughout the exhalation not only makes you more relaxed, it stills the mind at the same time.

  • To an extent counting the breaths from one to ten is effective, and used by many (including not zen) buddhists, including tibetan. After a while, I never needed to count breaths.

  • I'll look into that.

    Thank you:)

  • Each in breath is exciting, each out breath is relaxing. The space between them, the space that these actions are, is already.

  • Namaste. a usefull, informative feature.

    Thank you.

  • good explanation.

  • I thought that closing the eyes while doing zazen is a no-no. Master Dogen says its best to keep the eyes open, not to wide, not to narrow. Closed eyes tends to distract you more easily. Thank you AnmolMehtaCom for this usefull video.

  • yes in zazen you have to keep your eys open

  • Thank you very much for this. Very helpful

  • okay,i would love to put buddhism in my life,& i'd like to become more relax & focused.i just need help,,if anyone has any advice please let me know.

    thanks,i enjoyed this video

  • just meditate for 15 or 20 minutes each day and it will make a world of difference in your life. Just sit down with back straight..close your eyes and focus on your breathing and nothing else...and you will experience peace and insight about the world...

  • thanks :]

  • i believe one of the best things you could do on your journey to enlightenment is to

read a great deal, from accurate sources, just what buddhism is about

one great word to describe buddhism in practice: Awareness.

    om mani peme hung

    Peace

  • WOW great video! Just what I was looking for! Thank You.

  • Thank you!

  • The vibration you notice is probably due to your eyes being out of focus while partially closed. Perservere! It eases with time and practice. To help, try focusing your concentration aproximately two inches below your navel. You will notice decreased dependence on visual stimulation (the reason for the "fluttery" sensation in your eyes) and an increased sense of balance (as this is, in fact, your true center of gravity). Peace!

  • is it normal for ones eyes to "vibrate" while meditating? At times I find my eyes straining greatly causing very bright floral patterns dancing in the darkness.Similar to applying pressure to the eyeball.Very interesting experience

  • your gorgeous

  • Hi Zencat,

Thanks for your excellent insights and comments on the video. I have found mixed results with students when it comes to concentration, some prefer their eyes open, some closed.

Another reason that authentic Zen does indicate to practice with eyes open, is that they say that is how you live your life, so practicing mindfulness/awareness with eyes open during Zazen, helps carry that practice froward into your daily activities.

    Best,

    Anmol

  • In authentic zazen the eyes should indeed remain open to help the mind from wandering. Unless sitting in a chair, the knees should always be touching the ground.

  • I've made the wall like water like the true nature of mind, the wall also became still, after a few days of trying... Then I was able to do eyes closed as well...
