Such an amazing song that had such a great impact on my formative years. Perhaps the deepest and most melodic song on the Siamese Dream album. Reminds me of the days I ran the halls of the old Mount Vernon (Ohio) Middle School.

@lilmonster4evr The books very good, isn't it? Well both the books and this song could represent the mind of a teenager, or anyone of a disposition similar to Holden's.
@311montoya I agree, how could a video translate the awesomeness, for lack of a better word, of this song. However, in my opinion 1979 has a fucking great video.
@jpbaloga wow. I'm sorry to hear that. I'm not a collector of greatest hits compilations and I guess that's the reason why. They're never geared toward the true fans of the band. Good call, this is definitely one of the Pumpkins greatest tunes.
i have this overwhelmingly depressing feeling cuz i know these amazingly beautiful days of smashing pumpkins are over. this album will live on forever
This was one of the bands I listened to in High School, and still go back to all the time..... It was the shit then, and STILL IS!!! All time favorite song though.
@SystemVoid i wasnt in high school when this song was written but i understand it. Mainstream music will probably never be this real again, but have a little more faith in music all together. Theres musicians out there who are making music with this kinda emotional depth, there just not house hold names like the pumpkins, u really have to get out and look hard to find them. No disrespect by the way, i can definately see where your comin from.
@SystemVoid I was still a little kid when this was written and I love this song. It's unwelcoming and unaccepting morons like you that make me wander did any of you ever understand what The Smashing Pumpkins were and are about?
@SystemVoid Fuck You, if anything the void created by the mid to late 2000's for music this honest (outside of "All the go inbetweens") makes this worth so much more to us. Sorry you see this as dinosaur vs. youth. If anything your generation kinda fucked mine over with your shitty music after stuff like this came out. I don't blame my fellow teenagers, I blame the 20 to 30somethings that were born in the 80s and were teenagers in the 90s. You failed us.
@halifuckinfan I failed no one. It wasn't up to my generation to decide what would be worthy of mainstream music, and what wouldn't. That was up to the recording industry run by 50 - 60 year olds whose only interest was money. The music my generation made, and still makes, won't be found on FM radio. So, I blame you.. for being too stupid to look beyond FM radio and MTV for what's considered cool, and what's not.
@halifuckinfan No, they're just DJs...Don't hate the kids for having different taste than you...Rock music is still awesome but you have to look at folks like the Black Lips or Ty Segall..it's not as popular as it was in the 90s, plus Hip Hop gets a lot more airplay too...
This song opens a mental album of memories from as far back as I can remember. If your someone who doesn't have an album of memories.......today is a good day to start a fresh roll of film.
This song makes me think of my friends, my parents, myself, my impossible love... the madness and chaos of youth reflected in such a beautiful song... i think im gonna cry, because this song reminds me that im in the best years of my life, but then i go out and i feel like shit, somehow i still know its true
@IamTheScorchedEarth wow....well said. I'm 32 now and this song was a huge part of my youth...strangely, I still know exactly what you're talking about.....I couldn't have put it better myself...
There is so much power to this song it you can't describe it. It's one of those song in the backround of a movie that someone old is looking through a picturebook and sees old faces, friends that would be strangers, family that you've lost and haven't seen again. the times where memories lasted, the times where you have felt weightless and you can't pick yourself up because you're so head over heels you can't think. It's sad because you miss it, but makes you happy because those were the great
I remember the first time I heard this I was at my boyfriends house passed out drunk and he put this on and did his own thing while I lay there and feel this remarkable masterpiece.
Only a song named Mayonaise (incorrectly spelled as well) could come from a band named Smashing Pumpkins haha. Don't get me wrong though, I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. There's also a live vid from "Siamese Dream Era" is what he calls it, Billy performs it amazingly...
@cmorris975 It isn't such a bad thing really, I love how on their greatest hits album you can be listening to a song like disarm and the next thing you know you hear The everlasting gaze...it is like they have a song for every mood that you are in lol
But i think it's a shame that all the good bands had their time when i wasnt even born or only a little child, this song, for example, was released in the year when i was born. but i love, love, love this band sooo much. ♥
Man this brings back so many memories. That "endless summer" feeling, feeling of being free as a kid. No school. Hanging with your friends late into the night. First loves. Sat on the roof of my car late at night and had my first kiss to this song. Man good good times....
@xPOWELLDRUMMERx calling him an idiot doesnt help. u never n0 he may have a good reason. weather he does or not dont judge him because u dont no him or wats going on with him
@xXSilentHillerXx Wow, I didn't all of the negative responses my comment generated, lol. I thought it was pretty clear that I was being sarcastic, and I thought that it was even more fitting that its a depressing sounding song. That said, cutting wouldn't be the way I go, if anything I'd go out suicide by cop, rob a bank or something then pull a canon when the cops show up and go out in a hail of bullets, or something epic like that, lol. Kidding, of course for those who are too dumb..
@fullclip16117 Yeah, I simply like to egg on with my own form of sarcasm at times. Going out in a hail of bullets during a botched bank job would be pretty gnarly, though. Haha!
Everytime I hear songs from this album it brings me right back to the time I was with my first love........ @reboteloco Los colombianos tendremos a el privilegio de verlos en vivo el pròximo 28 de noviembre, y recordar los 90, tengo 28 años y esta banda recuerda mi adolescencia, sin duda el siamese dream es el mejor album.
i remember my sixth grade teacher told me to buy this album. she said it was really good so i did and thats when it all started. i always thought it was weird but i guess maybe it wasnt at the time.
i'm 23 and almost all my favourate music is from 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. When I'm older my kids are going to think I'm so wierd, listening to rock music from 80 years ago
shit... im 13 and sometimes it feels like no one likes the same music as me. it fucking sucks. all sp's old stuff is amazing.. this is definitley one of my favorite songs ever. im really into 90s alt rock nd explosions in the sky is fucking great whoever mentioned them. im also into some screamo and death metal but yeah. no one likes the same music. and it sucks for them.
Good to see someone of your age with at least a little sense of what is good music. To me, good music died with the new millennium. Late 80's and early to mid 90's were the pinnacle of music, especially in American music. Other parts of the world are still making good music that isn't the same mash of whiny emo, artsy sounding bullshit like what comes out of the US today.
@CJ7575 same thing happened here..i keep rocking 90's on in my playlist & others didn't understand,,then i think : so what? just shut your mouth and listen justin bieber's song at your room. just do your 90's brother! Hope this era will be back....
James Iha did this intro, it took a long time to do and it had to be heavily edited, be it because of James' skill or his guitar that wasn't intonation right, or etc. It was one of the few things James Iha did on the record. Billy recorded most of the guitar and bass on this album. Supposedly James and D'arcy weren't "prepared", but it must suck to be in a band, finally on a major label, and not get to play on a record, or told you're not good enough. Billy is a dick for the shit he pulled.
awww memories of my first love, when life was easily and love was simple are all wrapped up in every lyric of this song!! thanks for the memories....love me some pumpkins!
Possibly the greatest song ever written. DEFINITELY the greatest song of the '90s. This is mind-blowing, absolute, no-holds-barred music at its very best. There is not a song on this side of the millennium that even COMES CLOSE to this. Epic, magnum opus, piece de resistance, and every other word for "masterpiece" you can think of. Billy Corgan, thank you, sir, for producing arguably the greatest piece of music ever composed.
while I agree this is an amazing song, to say that no song in this side of the millennium comes close...is a complete exaggeration. Listen to more music and be amazed. 1 band: Explosions in the sky.
Every word is true.......but the whole album is the best piece of plastic ever released. perfect in the beginning middle and end. I have to admit I didn´t like them when I was young, but since ten years.....I could´t find an album which comes even close to this masterpiece......somtetimes I cannot believe it was really written so early ......Genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After the first album Gish, the frontman Billy Corgan felt "this great pressure to make the next album set the world on fire." .......................and he did.............my heart is one fire, still ...even after seveteen years! Masterpiece
RIP jimmy.

i'm 23 and almost all my favourate music is from 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

@CJ7575

Right now, I can't think of an intro as beautiful as this one... And at 3:36... No words to describe how ridiculously beautiful that part is.

@danokkkrock If that's really your favorite song, then you should thank James.
He wrote the entire intro by himself.

@danokkkrock Greatest song ever written? Calm down there dude, it's above average at best. 'Today' is like 100 times better than this song...

@danokkkrock
while I agree this is an amazing song, to say that no song in this side of the millennium comes close...is a complete exaggeration. Listen to more music and be amazed. 1 band: Explosions in the sky.

Every word is true.......but the whole album is the best piece of plastic ever released. perfect in the beginning middle and end. I have to admit I didn´t like them when I was young, but since ten years.....I could´t find an album which comes even close to this masterpiece......somtetimes I cannot believe it was really written so early ......Genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dannyboy00000 1 year ago
After the first album Gish, the frontman Billy Corgan felt "this great pressure to make the next album set the world on fire." .......................and he did.............my heart is one fire, still ...even after seveteen years! Masterpiece
