i love the sca. this is a place were i can be free. it is a bunch of people with similar interest to hang out and get to know each other. VIVAT THE SOCIETY FOR CREATIVE ANACHRONISM.
This is going to sound dumb, but what are the rules for buying swords like wooden practice swords from the RenFaire, or do I have to make them out of rattan and tape?
do you guys allow archers in the combat events, if so what are the regulations for the safety tipping on the arrows. i currently play a bowman in a larp called Amtgard and was interested in joining SCA
Yes archers are allowed to participate in certain events. I am not a 100 percent sure on the requirements but I think that you first have to be authorized in fighting sword and shield first before moving to archer.
I have played a little Amtgard and it is different in the sense that the weapons are heavier and we are required to wear armor in order to fight where in Amtgard you don't have to.
I suggest that you get started first in Heavy combat and then move to archer if you like it.
One primary detail i would like to add for any unknowing is that we DON'T use wooden swords, which are very dangerous. we use swords made from Rattan: a vine which is also used to make furniture , it does not splinter but will clean break or "mush" thereby lessining the danger to the fighters and observers.

The requirement for a Barony is 25 members. This is a Corpora requirement. There are currently 19 kingdoms: Æthelmearc, Ansteorra, An Tir, Artemisia, Atenveldt, Atlantia, Caid, Calontir, Drachenwald, Ealdormere, East, Gleann Abhann, Lochac, Meridies, Middle, Northshield, Outlands, Trimaris, West. * Lochac * Meridies * Middle * Northshield * Outlands * Trimaris * West
you can go to many archery practices, some of which can count for "Royal Rounds" so not all things associated with the SCA require garb, but most all events do.
The SCA is a whole family society, there is something for all , my son is 11years old and is now starting to practice rapier fighting (fencing) by my side, and my 3 year old loves the events as well, mainly the dress Shopping at the merchant row probably
This is the best short video on the SCA! It displays be basic information about the Society for Creative Anachronism without getting bogged down in a myriad of details.

Overall, I liked it very much... but I'm wondering why the final shot is of a couple of mundane(ly dressed) archers???
