No offence to the man, but you can always tell when it's tom morello playing. His style IS repetitive. I used to absolutely love his playing, and got the toggle switch and the pedals. Learned all the songs. I then realised what a narrow vein of music that it is, so I gave them up for about a year. No more RATM/Audio. His sound is samey, but I respect him so much for creating his own sound that I think he shouldn't be critisised about that. Lately I got back into them. I still love them! Hurrah!

If you're talking about the solo part he strums the strings before they even go over the first fret. Just strum the strings in between the neck and the tuners, or another possibility is that he strums before the chord, rather than after like you usually would. Most likely the first one.

Most of Morello's guitars have pick ups behind the nut (if you play guitar you should know what that is). He hits the strings behind the nut and the pick ups amplify the noise. Most guitars don't have these things, though.
