Kirobaito, i double checked and you're right. It was written for a friend of his who had been down south in civil rights march. I have this album in storage and didn't have access to the liner notes. But in any case, it seems to me i always thought of it as an anti-war song because what came to mind with 'thirsty boots' was a soldier 'marching to be free'. But of course, civil rights marchers make sense. Thanks for the information.
That's right, the song was vritten for a friend coming back from the south in civil rights march (63) but really written and recorded in 64 for the LP "'bout changes"n'tthings" 'Vanguard VSD-79.206Never it was an anti war song.. Sorry.
what might be the harmonica key?

Think Eric said something like... although he never went on the civil rights marches in the south, he wrote this song about coming back.

this is lovely in every respect, good song, good playing, mellow mood.

While it's great to hear Eric do this song (it's my favorite song), it's not an anti-war song. It's a song about civil rights workers in the South.
