What equarg said reminded me of a qoute from a video game; Far Cry 2.
Here it is;
You can't break a man the way you break a dog...or a horse. The harder you beat a man, the taller he stands. To break a man's will, to break his spirit, you have to break his mind. Men have this idea that we can fight with dignity, that it's the proper way to kill someone; it's absurd, it's anaesthetic. We needed to endure the bloody horror of murder.
The rest is to long and i don't want to clutter the page. but the idea is still best conveyed through those lines. When you strip a human being of what it means to be a human being you create an entirely new monster. its no wonder Katara feeds her anger in; The Southern Raiders episode. Its hard not to want to be one but this quote sums it up best.
"When fighting monsters, you have to be damn sure not to become one" or there will be nothing left of you.
The irony of creating a monster, you take a normal person, tear their life apart, take away all their dignity, and they will become what you most fear.
Hama was a monster of the fire nations making.
Ofter in the process of destroying a possible threat ( the water nation/benders) you create a "monster" that you feared in the very beginning.
I think that is one of the things I find most interesting about Hama's character. Her character is incredibly dark and monstrous but incredibly human as well.
@equarg not always the case, people can choose to forgive and be better then a monster. Its not like you have no will, and people can be stronger then that if they want.
@equarg It's like Hama is the Magneto of the Avatar-verse. ;)

That's a beautiful statement, and it applies to Zuko as well. By abusing and trying to control him, Ozai inspired Zuko to go against all the Fire Nation ideals that he tried to instill in him, eventually leading to Ozai's downfall.
lol none of u get it every element can preform a death blow one hit kill type of move water bender controls the blood air bender contols the oxegens in ure longs
fire bender can explode the gases in ure body and lastly a earth bender can can control the iron in ure body INSTANT KILLS CAN BE DONE BY ALL THE ELEMENTS NOT JUST WATER -_-
Its been awhile but this is still by far the saddest song and amv I have ever seen.
In fact I am typing this while I am listening to the song and the I am tearing up knowing I would probably cry if I scrolled up to the amv. So I think that it is safe to say that this still is a 5/5 in my book.
God, this is so freakin good. I have commented before but its one of the those unforgetable amvs. I almost can't vocalize my advid love for this... Every time I get on Youtube I HAVE to watch this, its that good.
This video is fabulous. Conceptually, this is, quite possibly, the best idea for an AMV I have ever stumbled across -- the song fits so well. And, the fact that you were willing to portray that facet of Hama's personality -- well, I thought it was touching and refreshing. Keep it up. :D
Congrats you made a god DAMN good amv, it was something all to itself. I rarely say this but you made that episode for me. I never thought to the profound depth of that episode if not for this amv.
I want to take a second to add on to what I said, I think for any amv to be amazing while using fight scenes they have to be able to blend the song well and I think you did that, very well. Fight scenes can ruin good and sad songs but I think you chose the right scenes at the right time to eliminate that factor. I think this is by far the 2nd best amv I have ever scene. I still believe you made that episode in a sense, it is my favorite episode because of this amv. Its REALLY!!! good.
you made my entire week with this comment, it is always good to hear that people understood what i was trying to accomplish with is vid. so thank you so much for this comment
I'm seriously going to make love to this video. FYI. This expresses everything that people needs to understand about Hama and her gift/curse. I call it a curse because I still think it could bring harm but you changed my mind a lot about the subject. Thanks. Kudos on this video.
*My chin hits the ground* The song went perfectly with the episode and the video. It looked like you worked really hard on this and it payed off, this was fantastic! Also now I'm in love with this song, its amazing.
this vid is incredibly. C: I've just uploaded a small MEP entry using Hama and then started searching other vids.
you used the transitions and opacity settings so well.
I love how you add in the irony like at 4:59
The timing and drama are top notch... I can't help but wonder if anyone made a better video. Truly a masterpiece.

I love Natalie Merchant, her lyrics are poetic.
