Meh.

It's a lovely scene and all. A real nice attempt by BioWare. Doesn't come close to excusing the rest of the game.

But really.. how do the city Elves know that this particular Elf is worth any respect?

There are many Dalish clans and many Keepers. Most City Elves don't leave the Alienage and are not privy to happenings around the city.

Marethari's clan is a recent arrival from Fereldan, so they haven't been around long.

Unless the clan did a parade or something, this makes no sense.

@vdeity No idea what you consider recent but this becomes avaliable in act 2 which is 4 years into the DA2 story.

@vdeity Even in Alienage, Elves keep their stories,

Dalish are a tale for them but every single elven child knows that one

and so, when a Dalish comes among them, they recognise him and based on the tatoo and a robe, you can tell who's keeper from their tales

and, in past times, every single elf posessed the gift of magic, I suppose they feel the magic from keeper, but that's just my opinion
