How could she go calling "Wildfire" if she died one winter when there came a killing frost? Wasn't she dead already when Wildfire "busted down HIS stall?" How could she go calling Wildfire??? I am way confused??
@gianna1able Since I could remember, I've had a yearning to have lived in the 70s, I love that decade, just from what I see. Plus, my parents keep telling me their stories, and just how fun and amazing of a time it was in the 70s. Perhaps being 15 in 1970 like my Mom was lol. But that would have been perfect...then ride out into the 80s as well....wat a trip that would have been..

My mom died on Christmas 2010. I would have played this song at her funeral,
except that I'm poorer than dirt, disabled, and have no car, so I had no way to travel to another city to attend her funeral. Coincidentally, my dad was born on Christmas day, and died 2 days after my birth. Fortunately, I was prematurely born, or he would never have gotten to see me.
As far as Christmas goes for me from now on, it'll be "Happy Birthday Jesus and Dad" and that's it. No "celebrating" for me....
@minks1968 I do agree, what happened to Wildfire??? and why was the Mountain Yellow, from Horse pee??? The song never says and inquiring minds want to know why??? Why did Wildfire run away,? Was he being abused?? He busted down his stall. Then he got lost!!!
This was about the time I first met MMM. He brought a copy of "Blue Sky, Night Thunder" to our house and gave it to my parents - before it was released. My parents still have it - with the "Not for Sale" stamp on it. If you go see this guy in concert today he sounds even better than this, BTW. The guy is an amazing artist.
I love love love this song. It puts a big smile on my face. I was in my 20's living in Florida when this song came out and life was great. Brings me back to some good memories and great friends I met along the way!!
talk about a rush of memories...was pregnant in late 75 and this song would make me cry every time I heard it...the hormones? or just a DAMN super song!!
If you like Michael, check out his appearance on "Legends and Lyrics" on PBS - he appears with Pam Tillis and plays beautifully. That said, this song as well as so many that he wrote for others always brought tears to my eyes....
i set pandora radio on low when i answered the phone. when i went back to pandora i realized from the history list that i had missed wildfire, so i had to look it up in
youtube. i remember hearing this often on the radio in the mid '70s
me too, It always makes me cry because it reminds me of one day in 1988 when I was in my 3rd yr of college a few states away, my mom called to tell me our irish setter who we had since 1975 had suddenly died. I took a drive in the country and this song came on and it reminded me of her since I used to call her wildfire because she was red. I felt bad since I wasnt there when she died.

That bassist hit an F note instead of an E at 4:02 and fucked things up pretty darn well. Otherwise very moving indeed. You can really hear the emotion in his voice at 3:18 when he says "gonna go." Great tune man!
I saw him in Gruen Hall in around San Marcos Texas early 80's nothing but trees, Texas Hill Country and about a 100 year old dancehall. A Great show excellent muscianship great showman greater songs.......I know he is still doing it... I hope he does Carolina in the Pines, there alot of good ones.
@SullenMorbius Not only did your bro provide some killer guitar tapestries but his vocal harmonies here are absolutely crucial to the song. Kinda cool how Richard and Micheal trade their vocal harmonies in the last chorus. Liking it!
