Great videos, graphically descriptive, good camera work, plenty of clear info. One question:
I've seen some guys turn their snow blower so it rest into the auger covers. I am afraid to do the same because I am afraid the oil in the engine may spill or reach internally where it shouldn't. Is this practice okay or I can ruin my engine?
I broke a sheer pin the other day. I replaced both and now started it up but only one side just turns only when I go to pick up snow? They both turn otherwise?? Help!!
I was thinking the same thing. These belts are all too important to simply ignore until broken. A little preventative maintainance goes a long way. Check for proper adjustment periodically and spray them with some belt dressing to keep them clean and gripping well. Plus is won't hurt to have spare belts on hand too just in case.
When I pulled the snapped auger belt off my YardMachines snowblower I didn't really look at the path of the belt. Is there somewhere I can find a diagram?
You might add that, on some units, there are four bolts holding the blower section to the engine section. Loosen up the bottom two and remove the top two bolts and pivot the two halves apart to gain access to the belts. The recoil starter can be used to help get the belts onto the pulleys.
I noticed that my old Ariens fan (impeller) doesn't seem to be spinning very fast. It only throws the snow about a foot. Opened it up and found there is almost no tension on the fan belt. The idler pulley has bottomed out. Got a new belt
at the dealer, today. It doesn't seem much shorter although 0.25 inch can make a big difference. Thanks....any ideas??

@arirang777 won't ruin your engine, watch for fuel leaking out the fuel tank though when it's flipped over on its auger

Don't forget to mention that pulling the spark plug (or just the wire) makes it less likely to start while you got your fingers in there. ;)

My old Ariens has a plastic cowling over the belts. The price for this piece is around $100. Any ideas on a lower cost solution??
whitegreg56 1 year ago
@whitegreg56 the plastic cowlings are usually cheaper than that, check ebay
