@whiskygirl43 ... I think you have been drinkin a little too much there whiskey girl,, cause I would rather hear the coyotes sing at night than buck owens.
i love george jones, waylon and on on, but mele is the best -total package- if you want to say jones is the best-well thats fine--but buck .come on hes really good but........
what a great practical and stirring song! how many modern singers today can do and appreciate the meaning and value of that song! keep posting that antique songs.
@NoSteveNoPoint Huh? Who are you calling moron? You think Jim Reeves tops every other country singer? You are a moron. A very dumb one too. You don't know whether you are coming or going you're so stupid. Read the other comments dickhead!
@NoSteveNoPoint ur a fuckin idiot hag is damn good but there is way better country singer like the possum and buck and DY to name a few not taking anything from the hag but hes not the best
@NoSteveNoPoint its not a shocker you said buck sucks cuz ur probly a drug store cowboy or a city boy that dont know shit about country music listen to streets of bakersfeild by buck then tell me he sucks you probly like toby and that stupid ass song red solo cup thats probly more your speed seeing how you are a simple minded dumb ass
@TheCowboy1833 Hey MORON!! I'm no city boy. Yes I like George Jones, Waylon, Cash and the rest, but NONE of them Had the voice Merle Had. Not to mention, Merle writes 95% of his songs. Something most of the rest didn't do. I've heard Bakersfield a million times. What planet are YOU from?? Are you telling me the VOCAL quality of Buck singing that song, comes anywhere NEAR this LIVE performance of Merle?? WISE UP!!
@NoSteveNoPoint if ur not a city boy ur a dumb ass to say the least ur probly a drug store cowboy witch is worse than a city boy y dont u go jump off of a tall building i think u have a man crush on merle and cant see past that or something im not sure but u are a modern day dumb ass redneck for damn sure just think all those sperm and you were the fastest hahahahaha
@NoSteveNoPoint "no point steve" that's a good name for you since your remarks are pointless. Cowboy was just sharing his opinion. No need to go balistic and cuss at him. Merle was and still is an great artist, his hero Lefty Frizzell ain't no slouch either. It's no wonder all of todays country artists try to imitate him. I remember the first time I heard Clint Black I swore it was Merle.
@barryebarnes Yes, I thought the same. 1989 BETTER MAN by Clint Black sounded just like a young Merle. But I think you should have sent TheCowboy1833 that message instead of me.
My Brother in Law and I used to sing this song ,Tonight hes in a hospital in Arkansas looks like he wont make it.We grew apart over the years but Bill alls forgiven those were some great times. May God grant us the privilage to sing these songs again in Heaven. Love you Brother
@erniegilesjr good luck! I know I sang many songs with my brother he passed away in 2000 but I know hes up there pickin with the best! Its one great jam session! I will say a pray for you!
There will never be a song with the ability to rip yor heart out like Merle just done here, come out of Trashville,TN not now not ever again...sad state of this country, both of them.
What is it about this guy? Everytime I hear him sing, the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Found a great live performance of Misery and Gin on YouTube today too.
Had a good friend pass away a while ago , and this was "HIS" song. We'll be keeping this song playing around the campfire as long as I'm around . RIP Willie , and thx Merle!!!
I saw him on the Kennedy Honors earlier this evening. I was proud to see him being honored. Over a year ago, I called the Kennedy Center, asking them to nominated him, and I'm glad in my wish came true.
i love the Hag,he is what country music is all about, some of the country music 2day takes the country sound out,if it dont have the STEEL GUITAR,its not country.
The only way to describe Merle and that is the greatest country singer of all time, and this song is one of his classics. Let this type of country music never die.
Saw him at Long Beach Ink & Iron this year on 08/21/2010. He came on stage at 10:00 and was tired but still gave it his all and in two words,God Bless!
@Flobert55 Can't believe there is finally someone who also knew Merle as THE HAG, OMG, i HUNG OUT OF A CAR WINDOW AFTER HIS CONCERT YELLING i LOVE THE HAG! And still love him to this day, none like him, there are a lot of our guys that were so fabulous!
what is this...? a country music? I have not heard anything like this before..but than again, I live in Nashville,TN. .... we have Swift,Mcgrowe,Pickler,Hill etc.... they don`t sound anything like this...
Whenever I pull a post such as this up on the tube, I feel sad. But grateful that some people remember true country music. It' s about life. It' s like riding a cycle, " If I have to explain it, you won' t get it." The older this an got, the better his music. It' s called life.
Wow, when you hear something like this you truly realize that this is how COUNTRY music is SUPPOSED to sound. Country radio needs to realize that what they are pumping out of Nashville today is NOT Country Music, and they need to start calling that garbage something else. Hear that pedal steel moaning in the backround? PURE COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!
On this Fathers' Day, I would like to dedicate this all those Dads out there raising children on their own. Maybe, their wives are ill, or dead. Or, perhaps, their wives left them to raise the kids by themselves. In the end, it really doesn't matter. What does matter is the fact that these Dads succeeded admirably and the kids turned out great. Unfortunately, the news media constantly focuses on "Deadbeat Dad," not the ones who are doing it right. This song is for those who do it right!!
Saw Merle a couple of years ago (not really sure how long ago) with Marty Stuart and Connie Smith just after Johnny Cash died. The collaborations between the three of them were incredible. Seeing Merle showing his age was heart wrenching. Seems all the greats are leaving us. Only hope that they are jammin together somewhere. Talk about the choir of angels! One of a kind, Thank you to the people who have posted these jewels.
This is one of my favorites of Merle's. He and his backup singers sound wonderful. Merle has one of the greatest voices ever. I am anxious to see the new movie "Crazy Heart" about his life. Jeff Bridges has a role as a country music star, much as Merle and Waylon have been. If the movie is as good as it sounds I imagine Merle will be very happy. especially. Thank you for posting this song. - Paula
Merle probably is the best country singer ever vocally. He may not scream at the top of his lungs, but his tone and smoothness. Is well... Remarkable.
I love all your songs.. I'm one of your avid fan from the Philippines, now living here in Ca. USA! I never tired listening to all your music.. it kept on playing over and over again in my cd player.. I love you Merle...

A few years ago I bought a 3 pak CD set at Walmart of Merles Greatest Hits.
I sure was disappointed., they were remakes. I like his studio recordings, the
original ones. Big City & Are the good times over were the only original ones
on them. I still have my old cassetts, but they kind of drag sometimes when
I try to copy them on my computer. I can;t afford to by too many CD's. I still
love his old music. Too many to have a favorite. If I did it would Be Carolyn,
My Wife's name.
