People in that particular age group grew up listenning to greats like pac, cube etc so they were their greatest influences early in life.

Who was great in the late 80s? not too many. Most artists right now (young 30s') were influenced by BS and it shows in their music.

Give it a few years, 2-3. Its a cycle. 90s were great, 2000's a huge decline, 2010's will be great. You'll see.
