That, right there, in that moment, is Space Station Thom orbiting Planet Radiohead. Celestial.
They may not be the best band in the world, but they're the BEST band to me. Only Radiohead fans truly get what they're about. And even then we're often left spellbound and dazed by them.
Between Thom, Radiohead, and to whomever up there he sends and receives his messages, he must have the most infuriating, yet epic, job at times. We read/listen to the texts. They live the text.
Apparently, this song came about because Jonny called Thom a poor musician. So, Thom sat at his piano for days and came up with the chords for this song. It's weird because Jonny's guitar and Thom's piano work mesh together so well in this song.
@manicfoot Source? Also, Thom IS a poor musician, if we speak technically. But speaking technically about music is not a good idea in my head. If it's good, who cares?
My son was about 4 when this came out and I used to sing it to him when it was bedtime. Sometimes I would lay with him as he slept and whisper these words to him. A few years later when he was about 10 he made me a special "Fathers Day" CD and this was one of the songs. I thought he had forgot it by then. When I asked him why he added it, he said he had room for a few more songs on the disc and that it was an afterthought. Yea, one that kills me everytime I hear it. (weeping Dad)
I'm not joking about the note, at 3.49 he plays a D, he should play a D-sharp, it's not on the cd, it doesn't fit in the last chord he plays, I think that note hurts in his ears, but I could be wrong about his emotion, maybe he is just touched by the song. One of the best songs ever...
I just noticed that his face expression changes at about 3:47 and he appears to be crying? Am I seeing things that are not there? Has anybody else noticed?
When I first heard this song, I just closed my eyes and let it take me to space... I did an acoustic version on the video responses. I played mostly the piano parts on my guitar and sang along. This is one of my all time favorite Radiohead songs ever.. Thom's voice is brilliant... and his piano along with the rest of the band is just incredible.. Imagine being there... to see this... just incredible... This is a great live version... Probably my favorite I've seen so far..
it's just amazing how he can look like he's joking around and smiling while still producing THE MOST BEAUTIFUL voice that just takes you somewhere else
Ótima performance, ah lembrei, trata-se de Radiohead,Apoteose - Rio de Janeiro 2009, um dos maiores shows da minha vida se não o maior... SALVE THOM YORKE E CIA.
that which moves us such as radiohead words and music moves us-serves only to propel us,inspires us,ignites us,unites us...fully amuses and delights us.
you can here a woman telling Thom to piss off at the end of that song, which is why Thom looks around and says Uhh! before Paranoid Android, then she calls him a ugly piggy
It's amazing how Radiohead and Joy Division have exploded into popular consciousness over the last 5 years. In 2000 I always felt like the only kid on the bus listening to them!
@justyn87 i honestly think radiohead are more like the pink floyd of the 90s. the beatles wont be repeated again. maybe in a different form some musical entity in the future can come close to them but as a band, no one can do what they did.
Absolutely sublime. My favorite Radiohead song of all time. Does anyone have a more beautiful, expressive, poignant voice than Thom Yorke? Gosh no. (Rhetorical question.)
he's playing with his son's picture on the piano...that's would be enough to create that incredible performance, but he's a genius so it becomes "fucking special"!
@JTtheLAR i found that girl, she introduced me to Radiohead, someone is out there for everyone, doesnt matter the sex, ethnicity, anything - just need to find what makes you happy in life, it is far too short and you will regret it otherwise
@JTtheLAR Haha! I told my friend something similar just last week. None of my friends or even my acquaintances like Radiohead as much as I do (or at all, for that matter). I feel like when I finally meet someone who does, I will yet out "oh my god I love you!" Then again, that might scare them away...
You can tell Thom really enjoys playing this song... look at him kinda smile towards the end haha. Shit id love to play that song too...especially if i made it. This song gives me chills. I choked up when i saw them play this...the performance is so beautiful. No one compares or even comes close to Radiohead!
I definitely agree with all comments below. I recently really, deeply listened to Hail to the Thief and it has been my top Radiohead album for some period now. Its gorgeous and even that word can never put into words what it really is.
