  • I was very moved by this video, thank you

  • I was very moved by this video, thank you

  • This album was given to me for my birthday in late September 2001. 9/11 was barely two weeks old. I had seen the Pentagon burning first hand--missed seeing the plane itself by less than ten seconds. And it all fucked me up so badly that I used to just drive the country roads of Northern Virginia for hours, aimlessly, listening to this album--trying to make sense of the unfathomable tragedy I had witnessed. Gilian's haunting voice and David's dissonant guitar helped me cope somehow.

  • it was hard to hit the like button but i did as i was crying

  • I personally think it is great that the song touched you in a way that enabled you to make a powerful connection from it to the footage you used with it, as a musician myself I feel you have done a great job, inspiring thought is what it's all about.

  • Saw her live yesterday, she performed revelator and oh it was brilliant!

  • You nailed it, buddy. The footage transported me to my childhood in the 50's so thoroughly it was creepy. You are a fine artist.

  • bingo

  • Beautiful song, really is, it's so emotional.

  • The comments all seem to be old, but the tone of this music is still exceedingly relevant. Got a little teary seeing the leg braces.

  • why do you guys argue about shit please can i enjoy the song in peace, let it be huh.

  • smoke an eighth in one day. put this on and let the stress leave u

  • I'm crying listen dis Song!OMG...IS Truth!

  • pretty amazing combination of video with audio channel, in fact how people said - its not really integrated with words, but music + video with intonation of Welch voice creates a perfect combo, im rlly impressed.

  • Awesome song, very beautiful

  • time is the revelator no matter how you face it or approach it

  • Leaves me speechless every time.

  • Queen of fakes and Imitators

    Times the revelator.

  • i love this. a lot.

  • Hard to look at, but also hard not to watch. Good job.

  • Gillian Welch is an amazing musician. How wonderful

to find this song. Thank You for sharing.

    Peace and Blessings.

  • Nice video. Makes you think. As Gillian always does with her music.

  • you've gotten bad comments,,,on the video,,,It made a 46 year old man cry hard,,,because it's true,,,,,,,,,THE HARD,,,COLD,,,TRUTH,,,about life............... & time is the revelator.......absolutly great song also.....god bless you all !!!!!!!so much....

  • Loved it! thanks

  • Mike Gordon played this song last night in Portland.

  • I thought the video was lovely. To me, the most poignant line in the song is "and everyday is getting straighter" meaning more predictable and not blessed with new experiences.

  • coolest song iv heard in a long while. Mike and Lisa, thank you.

  • Love this song. Interesting video.

  • @ Dafreak4ever-

What is "allot?" you can't expect anyone to take your comment seriously when you obviously lack even a rudimentary grasp of the English language

  • @Msirisheyes1 uh I can imagine that someone as unfeeling as you would find a way to find fault. Find a life and stop surfing YouTube.

  • This is my favourite song by a female artist. This is now my favourite song with film. Well done, it's better than excellent.

  • why can't i find the real music video for this anymore?

  • @skotxmeyerx9

Yeah, the original vid for this was so much better.

  • For some reason, this really made me choke up. Human beings are very fragile, I guess.

  • who could dislike Gillian Welch

  • OMG... where did you find this footage?

Please give me a reference point.

  • Those poor kids, they were so sweet though... :(

  • Time is the revelator

  • Time is the revelator.

  • haunting both pictures and sounds. beautiful.

  • Love the song and most of the video. However, how can anyone justify posting the images of sick, dying and crippled children other than an appeal to help them?

  • @tom2002a I agree with what you're saying to a certain point. If it was being done entirely for financial gain I would agree completely. However I feel that, in this context, artistic and creative merit outweighs the moralistic issues. The creator of the video is trying to portray a particular emotion through the combination of this song and those images, which s/he does eloquently in my opinion.

  • ADORE this video you made - stellar job :)

  • Loved it, perfect visual blend with music, well done.

  • beautyfull video!

  • Gosh I love that guitar rip at the end. Good video by the way..it strangely goes with the song..kind of.

  • you are taking the documentary footage provided out of context...depriving people of medicine had nothing to do with religion in the '20's, it had everything to do with poverty and slow advances in medical achievements.

  • Thank you for looking and leaving a comment. The footage was never su[pposed to be a statement about the song or vice versa. I love the song and just wanted some interesting footage that kind of went with the mood of the song not the words.

It's more about sharing the song and I thought it better to have something moving rather than staring at an album cover.

The option is always there to look away and enjoy the music alone if the footage offends any.

    Cheers, Phil.

  • @terr0rkitten

Ta. Fascinating choice of video. Do you know where , when it is? Who filmed it? Source of film? etc?? I like it.

The lyrics, musicianship+ vocal authenticity + historical film footage is spellbinding.

  • @Kaspiannlago Thanks for your kind words. Unfortunately I'm not able to give much detail, I pretty sure this is an amalgam of about 3 sets of footage that I downloaded from a public archive. I'm sure one was on old age and one of the others on child poverty. Sorry for being so vague as it was over 2 years ago.

    Phil

  • what archive did you get these from?

  • @terr0rkitten The polio kids seem to be from St. Louis in some outbreak in the late 40s or 50s I'd guess

  • @Mary5ooo

    You're an idiot

  • @Mary5ooo

Try not to get offended so easily. It's a fact that even today religion causes allot of problems. There are allot of People who believe they betray their god when they take up traditional medicine. Some Priests even actively reinforce this belief. To say that religion had no influence on the mindset of people in the 20s is simply wrong.

  • @Mary5ooo shut up

  • Look the poor kids ... there are people in my country that do not vaccinate their children, because they decided that it is in the hands of God. If you see this kids, that laughing girl ... it brought spontaneous tears to my eyes. These religious fanatics are really sadistic retards.

  • i love this video...all of your videos really.

  • Thank you, that's very kind and appreciated.

    Phil

  • Is this what I have to look forward too??? Shoot me already!

    Love the song tho

  • I feel like 00:32 already

  • If I looked 'forward' to this K, my life would be great..

  • Creepy vid.. I like - - - ..A+

  • great song creepy video

  • This is one of my favorites 4-sure.
