Ha ha, this is the Game Blizzard totally ripped off to make Diablo. They could have just bought the rights and called it what it was, but like all that they do, they copy... Warcraft is Baldurs gate, the sony ps2 version...
I'm glad to have produced an awesome game for you all to enjoy. It was a lot of hard work and a thrill when it was working with the quality we'd endowed it with! Nothing but the best for you guys and gals!
i've been going through a storage locker and was just looking at the box of Gemstone Warrior and Gemstone Healer stuff this past weekend. Awesome to the max!
I'll have to get around to posting the game play video (sorry no audio) that I made a few years back. Look for it at MountThor. -PWL
Awesome! You beat me to it posting a video of my favorite game! Why did you like GW? Oh, by the way I wrote it. Yes, it's me Peter William Lount. Do you have any shots of the game action?
@antdude Yes, it is called Gemstone Healer. Check it out at Peter dot Lount dot com where you can download both games and an apple ][ emulator for windows.
Aww, no gameplay clips? This game seems to get no love. :( How far did you guys get? I got to Demigod. I'd like a copy of .WAV file! MP3/OGG is preferred. Post it on a file host server.
I agree those demons (the one eye creature?).
Did anyone make the map for this game? I know the part with gems were randomized. I don't think I explored the whole game.
How was Gemstone Warrior 2? I never got to play it. I love the box cover arts. :)
I can barely remember the game play but I was proud of the graphics at that time. They were one of the first that had multi colored backgrounds. Nintendo soon followed and the rest is history.
@liabatud67 Thanks for the compliment. We worked very hard on the graphics indeed. It took six months and multiple attempts just to get the scrolling code to work so fast. It blew away the competition at the time! We loved Castle Wolfinstein and fixed all it's flaws (like no flashing screen when you bumped into the walls and really fast game start up and room changing).
It's amazing that years later I woke up one night at the cottage with graphics algoritm that was twice as fast! - PWL
I have tried using emulators to play. Some games you can do that with, but I found it's just not the same. Maybe if there was a way to get the same good ol' joysticks hooked up and working, then it'd be different.
Sorry, I missed your questions last time I read the comment section. Growing up, I've beaten it multiple times. Sometimes, I would scream for my dad to rush in and take over, but all in all, I've beat it times beyond count.
@antdude Some things even the gods don't remember. Heck it's been, let's see, 2010 - 1985 Jan publish date (we started working on it on 9th of October 1982 at 10am ish, seriously we remember that conversation)! So that's 25 years ago! Wow, which means it's time to party!
@nate556 There was a "freeze game play" button you know.... just for that type of panic. Now your talking with the Gemstone Warrior gods! Congratulations Nate556!
@grillmeasteak Yeah, that sounds about right for me too! I had nightmares from the game too like those big white demons with one eyes chasing after me!
I always thought the monsters were cool. I had no instruction booklet either, so it was kind of a free-for-all. I like the older games like this because my imagination runs away with me. I don't remember too much from it, although I did play it the other day for about 20 minutes on an emulator.
Is the music original? It sounds like it could be from Bach's Goldberg Variations, but I can't find it.

@MountThor Wait, you made the game? Awesome! Did this game ever have an ending? I only got to Demigod level. Back then, we had no saved games!

Funny how something like this can take you on such a trip through memory lane. I might do Below the Root next.

@e052422 How were the graphic and audio on it compared to Apple 2s?

Man I wish my C64 never got stolen, too many of these games I would love to play again. Definitely more challenging than some of the games out today.

@lunarnuPat Play on an emulator then. ;)

@nate556 I know that feeling. It's not the same as playing it on the real machine and controllers. How far did you get in this game?
