It may be small but most people prefer this over rattler as this has more airtime and lacks helixes that last for excessively long time. Rattler used to be great when it first opened, as the drop was more forceful.
@flashback0978 I agree, it kinda does even though I've never been to Kenobals, but I have heard of Phoenix. Phoenix is the roller coaster that's built exactally like Hershey Park's Comet?
@sportsygirl8 Phoenix isn't exactly like Comet, though they share some similar characteristics. Both were designed by the same legendary designer, Herbert Schmeck. Phoenix is a much, much more thrilling coaster, Comet was tamed down significantly many years ago by the application of brakes before it's out & back section. You've GOTTA go to Knoebels! It's the greatest amusement park in the world & Phoenix is consistently rated among the best coasters in the world. Hershey's an awesome park, too!
@redshark618 I disagree with a lot of what Robb does and says, but he seems to have found the enviable & "rare" niche of being able to make a significant income off of his enjoyment of & hobby of roller coasters. Most of us scrape enough together each year to go to just a few parks/coasters. I don't know if parks & coasters are his main or only income (it's none of my business, either), but I wouldn't be surprized at all. Oh-and he takes excellent video, too. He's a true asset to this hobby.
@themeparkreviewTPR A life in pursuit of "winning 'em all" is way too much trouble, worry, and also impossible for any human being, so why even try? Nobody is going to please another in every way, & that's one thing that makes people so unique, interesting, and wonderful. We learn to deal with the things we dislike about others in ways which preserve respect and love. Then we ride coasters with them and have fun and take great videos, post them on You Tube & get a psychology lesson!
@ProChoiceJesus My average trip to an amusement park would be 2 a year Hershey Park and Lakemont Park, but Hershey Park is a big thing for me because I live pretty far and Lakemont is an hour away and I go there every month in the summer.
@sportsygirl8 You couldn't pick two more wonderful parks to make an "average" trip out of! In central TX I only dream of living in a coaster-rich state like PA. I have no top 10 coasters within a days drive, really. I went to PA. this year & did my favorite, Knoebels, for two full days straight. I grew up on & helped save the Phoenix when living in San Antonio. You should go to Knoebels. Many consider it the greatest amusement park in the world & Phoenix a top 5 coaster. Knoebels is the best!
@ProChoiceJesus That is so cool that you got to go to PA for 2 days, where I live I live 5 to 10 minutes of the PA state line and the West Virginia state line, Maryland's got 2 amusement parks and the one is like Idlewild and then there's Six Flags, but the strange thing is it is a shorter drive to Lakemont Park and Hershey Park than to Six Flags. That is so cool that you were able to help save Phoenix. I should go there some year...I hope to go to Hershey Park and stay the night
@ProChoiceJesus in Hershey and then have my friend that lives in Harrisburg take me to Knoebels because he goes there a lot. My dad and I are the coaster riders and my mom HATES amusement parks!
this ride was built by Ralph Stricker if anyone didnt know and he built it with his own hands so thats pretty impressive thats why its not like 100ft tall
The Stricker's Grove Tornado is approximately 55 and 3/4 feet high and would be classified as a Junior Wooden roller coaster. The Screechin' Eagle at LeSourdsville, Ohio a.k.a. Americana, is 70 feet high. The Racer at Kings Island is 89 feet and 9 inches high.
Reminds me of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Giant Dipper, a coaster I have ridden many, many times. Bit of a different layout though. Was this patterened afer a famous coaster from the past? Nice to have your own amusement park on your property!
@koasterkav The coaster here, the Tornado is a mirror image of the former Comet / Mighty Lightnin at Rocky Glen Amusement Park , Moosic, Pennsylvania, USA (from personal knowledge and rcdbdotcom.)
@cccodddyy I'm not sure there is any real answer to that other than that's just the type of business they operate. It's small park with the capacity of about 750 or so people, so they just rent it out to private functions and small events. They seem to do pretty good business that way. Google "strickers grove" and read the "About Us" section.
@browniethepirate It's not, but I can see where it looks like. It's a "medium sized" woodie - probably about 70ish feet. Pretty good ride for it's size, really. Check out my POV of "teddy bear", that is the parks kiddie woodie! =)
@themeparkreviewTPR - It is a mirror image of the Rocky Glen/Ghost Town Park's Comet/Ghost Town Jet/Mighty Lightning from Moosic, PA. The height of the drop is 55ft, since the blue prints from the old comet, which was burned in 93 and torn down in 94 were used.
I had visited and rode the GTP,RGP coaster so much I remember it by heart. SG originally was buying the coaster from RGP, but vandals burned it and Lackawanna County had it torn down to prevent more arson outbreaks.
What makes this ride RARE is that it's a small park located in a small community called Ross, Ohio and most amusement park goers go the the BIG THEME PARKS and pass up these small parks and miss out on this type of roller coaster. Most roller coaster addicts like to ride every coaster so they can add it to their LIST OF ROLLER COASTER RIDDEN.
I live in Ohio and I've never heard of this place. Looks like it's built in the middle of someone's farm. I think it's time to break out the weed wacker.
@callmemarc It's in the rinky dink town of Ross, and honestly it IS built in the middle of nowhere. You'll just be driving down the road and all the sudden you see this roller coaster up against the side of the road. It's random, and I love it.
Oh, and no, it's built NEXT to a farm, not on one.
I get it, kind of like we open when we feel like it policy. Conneaut Lake sort of runs like this... if it all.
