  • Im part of the Macmillan clan :3 scotland ftw

  • Beautiful ( I'm Irish )

  • The British considered Gaelic a barbaric and evil tong because the Gaels were practitioners of the ancient pre-christian magicks (yes the spelling is correct) there was a campaign to stamp out the religion as well as the language and culture across the Gaelic world.

  • Its like an epic pre battle song

  • Scotland is the most beautiful place I have ever been and where ever I go or what ever I do some part of me always remains there and always will.

  • When was this song recorded?

  • @comeonshaymen An Toll Dubh is in 1981 Album 'Recovery'. But this version, with Paul Mounsey (Genius) was recorded in 2003.

    Greetings from Galicia (Spain)

  • I am SO INCREDIBLY in love.

  • @lilywithtwobees I'm also in love. (And I'm not Scottish)

  • Heard about this song from Maggie Stiefvater...I think I just fell in love.

  • I want to learn Scottish Gaelic...

  • What a profound and interesting song though not all of us descendants of the gael are asleep as it states. Maybe one day Jesus Christ will restore the language of the gael to the majority of it's global descendants as he will return and restore all things so why not gaelic, runrig certainly makes it a beautiful sound and encourages us to try to learn it. Scottish gaelic is a blessing and a treasure not a burden to be left to die.

  • @Macneacail77

As a follower of the old ways i can see them more restored by the Gods of the gaelic people but to each their own faith and path

  • Praise God for a folk rock group that helps keep alive the Gaelic language!

  • So THAT'S what happened the to original Fire Temple music from Ocarina of Time

  • great video...fantastic shots of Skye. ..but the lighthouse at the start is a Trinity House light by the looks of it...Skerryvore might have been appropriate to the song

  • The original version on Recovery is much better. Striped back and raw. And angry.

Le eiginn ar n-eirigh as ar suain.

A fitting song for a Scotland moving towards independence.

  • @AnCrubag agreed....Recovery may be 30 yrs old but seems very relevant in these exciting times in Scotland

  • Saor Alba!

  • I'm english but i live celtic and gaelic music as much as any1, absolutely brilliant

  • Makes me proud to be Scottish!

  • 2:11 - Horsies. <3

  • haha, the last 2/3rds of my life i have lived in englandshire, and listening to this just made me that little bit more excited at the prospect of moving back up.

  • Feels reminiscent of Native American music, in some kind of way...

  • @Kayenne54 I also think so

  • @Kayenne54 but i think its celtic

  • @CM99501 Gaelic specifically. The point of the song is that the Gael is sleeping, and waking will be hard.

  • @Kayenne54 yep taking us back to our ancient roots... we're all from Africa man :)

  • No celtic blood in me whatsoever....I'm of Dutch/ Norwegian/ Danish ancestry...

But this music is fucking fantastic!

  • Simply fantastic... reminds me so much of Lofoten Islands where I come from :-)

  • what kind of music would this be considered to be?? I love this! It's...different, but so good!

  • @HandbellOlive Runrig is a Scottish Celtic rock group. Paul Mounsey is an experimental musician who mixes traditional sounds.

I do not know what kind of music.

I love also this other group: Afro Celt Sound System

  • @fr4nbl Thank you! I love this music, even though I just found this song today =D Have a wonderful day!!

  • Saorsa!

  • brill wee vid --good post

  • Alba Gu Brath!

  • Stunning scenery. Great music . When I told my son there were Golden Eagles in Scotland he thought I was kidding him !

  • @1pygmychimp Scottish Gaelic (Gàidhlig)

  • should be in avatar

  • Awesome vid! Great song! Thank you for posting this. :^)

  • This song is absolutely stunning! Great video also.

  • @BeverleyBrown1 I lived in West Highlands for 13 years spent a lot time in the wilds now i am away from there 13 years across the other side of europe and the video and the song here gets lot tears out of me, i really miss Scotland.

  • I like the guitar feature of North, it reminds me of a rafting :)

  • Brilliant music and video !

  • i want to come back home to scotland. im stuck here in england

  • Alba gu Bràth Mo bràthar

  • Paul Mounsey ruined his "North" music with the guitar feature.

  • Agreed.

  • the song is amazing, so powerfull

    thank you for this Vid.

  • umm It seems that Sony demands the audio of the video. Probably they're going to retire it What a pity!

  • Why does Sony want it?

It's from their own label Ridge Records.

  • I don't know but I received a warning:

Owners of content: Sony Music Entertainment Type: audio content

  • I discovered this artist litterally about 15 minutes ago. Bloody brilliant.

  • me too!

  • Good taste in music and very beautiful eyes! ;)

  • oh, thank you!

  • Really have a look into Paul Mounsey's solo work if you like this... I'd start off with Nahoo Too and then go on to City of Walls, he is the man! There is something for everything on those CDs, a couple of the most played records in my collection!

  • I love Paul Mounsey. Someday I will upload some from Nahoo 2.

  • Yeah, I got around to buying Nahoo Too off Amazon... will eventually buy the other stuff as well! Thanks for the heads up my friend. Anna xx

  • truly one of scotlands modern day heros Paul Mounsey and runrig!!

  • Hehe, but they're all good ^.^

Oh yes, I'm a really big Runrig-fan, and yes I commented on your video with wolves to the song Proterra (It's a good video) ^.^

  • Hehe, but of the versions I've heard of this song, this is my second favorite ^_^

  • I really like the version on The year of the flood dvd ^.^

  • Wonderful video....GRANT MOUNSEY

  • ^__^

    I love this song =)

  • such a beautiful piece of music. Sends chills up my spine everytime

  • Truly, this one of the best videos and song that I have heard in a long time.

  • We need to bring back our Gaelic culture.

The eyes of the sleeping need to be awakened.

Many years have you slept, wake up from your slumber.

We were Scattered, our culture was sought to be destroyed

But through tears of the Scottish and Irish our culture endured.

  • you also need to remember even the English where Gaelic we lost it sooner because of the 2nd Roman Invasion, Bodacia was a Celtic queen and we still use her image today but refer to her as Britannia.

  • The whole Atlantic coast of Europe has a Celtic past. Galicia (NW of Spain) is also home to Breogán;)

  • Scattering happens sadly, I truly wish I could have been Scotish like the rest of my family are.

  • @celticgarrison Scattered we may be, but the love of the land of our forebears still remains firmly in our hearts.

  • iontach!

  • People coming from England/the South (its the same word in Gaelic-"Sasainn", its where the word saxon comes from) and suppressing Gaelic culture. It uses a load of imagery, for instance, the repeated line is "It is difficulty that we shall rise from our slumber". It basically mourns the loss of the Gaelic culture.

  • great

  • an gaidehal san leapaidh, an gaidheal na shuain

  • in spanish? please, jaja

No tocarás es Capercaillie, lo digo por el apellido...

  • jaja, es una parte de la cancion que quiere decir: el gael se fue a la cama, el gael esta dormido. de donde sos??
