What a minute, you go by the moniker of "Street Noodle"??? Dude, your opinion counts for crap!!! BTW, Five Finger Death Punch could always use another fan. I'm sure they're more your speed??? Twit!!!
The only band I have loved throughout my life. It started with Another State of Mind... Thank God for Mike Ness. No worries Razzberry---- Social D is timeless.... still here... evolving and not selling out!
I'm getting so nostalgic. This is such a beautiful part of the doc. I feel Mike's songs relate to my life more than any other artists. I felt like I wanted to self destruct 5 mins ago, then I listened to this song and it brought me home again. It's like my musical therapy. You make me proud to be from Huntington Beach Mike!
You might don't like Green Day, and this is absolutely ok. But they did a very good cover of another state of mind, in pure social d's spirit. I think this is undeniable.
@niekolas no dude, it's a terrible cover. I'm not the biggest Green Day fan (there are a few songs that I like, very few), but their cover is terrible. It's musically terrible (almost like it's off-key) and Billie Joe's voice just doesn't work with the song.
such a great social d song :) too bad green day had to go out and do a cover of it. No offense to green day, but i think stuff like this should be left untouched by the mainstream.
this is the video of their first tour and the video itself is called another state of mind...if you've never seen it and you are a social d fan i highly recommend it
For real - how many times does someone actually capture a song as it is being written; never! Especially a punk classic such as "Another State of Mind"! This is some hardcore shit!
I'm glad mike still wrote songs like this when he was going through his bad patch, i think it made him what he is today. Not many people come back from addiction to be successful
@Scottydont66 me too dude! It was on Night Flight on USA I think. I was in the 3rd grade or so and my older cousin was watching it. Had to be '83 or '84. Didn't know it then, but Mike's and Social D's music would be and has been getting me through tough times all my life.
the parts of this movie where they show the making of the song "another state of mind" were the best to me. its kinda funny and tragic at the same time tho to see mike so fucked up cuz you know he really went off the rails in the mid 80's. but he pulled himself back up and made Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell which is my fav album from SxDx. thank you mike for having so much talent. r.i.p. brent and dennis
>Cool Movie. This was my favourite bit .... I found a 'punky' comedic movie on Youtube worth checking out called Martin and Snakes go to the Zoo.I thought it was quite good-- has a sock monkey called 'Transoxual' in it !! <<<<
I think he's happier nowadays. He was completely screwed up on heroin when this movie was made. I read an interview where he said he was really messed up back then.
mike ness is actually a really good guitarist, listen to some of his solo stuff, the way he uses the blues scale and everything is in perfect key makes him shit all over most punk bands and metal bands, sure these metal wankers can do 10 hammer/pulls a second but thats relatively useless when they dont know which key or scale to use.
im sorry but social d's rhythm guitar chords aren't that mind blowing, i learned this song in 20 min and 4 others in an hour, maybe im just good but still easy songs. mike is a great songwriter though, and social distortion is the greatest band ive ever heard, but not genius guitar players
Slave is totally right. Social D puts out some high quality songs but no one will ever accuse Mike Ness of being a guitar god. If you can learn G C D you can play 90% of their songs. Personally i think it's their lack of elitist genius that makes them such a fantastic band.
just go buy the movie for 10 bucks at amazon, its called another state of mind, its got youth brigade and the faggots from minor threat on it (would be cool if the singer from minor threat wasnt a fucking basehead)
