Yes I agreed on that it make more sense when its sang by a girl. Alison Krauss sang it in a way that deliver this song in such a way that its just so "story-like"(In a good way, there's what I mean)

@shoexy Actually Todd has a sardonic wit, a brilliant mind, and a penetrating pen. He wrote / sang this about a relationship that lacked "Trust" and thus , withered and died--if you re-read the Lyrics in this light--you'll appreciate Todd's insights.

It's present and noteworthy all throughout his work--especially the Something / Anything Album.
