@leebeaux3 .. yeah I bet I do sound reduntdant. heh better to have the info out ther ethan not though i guess. didnt have notecards or anything and just said all this crap off the top of my head. i still have this rifle and I love it so much.
@TopOfTheLine3 ..for awhile winchester used pot metal alloy for the trigger guards and they would often break just like mine. I am still looking to replace it. Not high on my list to do but will get done someday.
Mate I'm with you on the timber stocks and blue steel, got that on practicaly all my rifles. Too bad we cannot own ar15's here. I prefer the remingotn 700, but I won't knock your choice, the winchester 70 is a good one too. I'll end up buying one one day Im sure.
its a really nice looking rifle... but i cringed when i saw that trigger guard cut.... it just ruins the look. also that isnt very safe to have it that way. also why in the hell would you need tracers? tracers are for machine guns not regular rifles....
@BurroBurrito1 ..hey, sorry im a month late on your comment. i didnt see it til now... it isnt cut, the weak metal snapped from a blow or fall. winchester cut some corners in the post '64 rifles, and used pot metal as the trigger guard. they were notorious for that around the 70's till they started using better materials. as soon as I find a steel or high quality plastic guard, I'll install it,
@slowride55 ..really? Damn, well can you use shotguns? I picked up a SWEET remington 870 12ga slug gun this week in nearly mint shape, has rifle sights and a 20" slug barrel and removable scope mount. Will be making a video review on it later.
@67mustangreg Sweet! Haha cant wait to see it! Yeah we can use shotguns, on 2 weekends out of the season. THATS IT. But we can bow hunt all season long.
@mattfoor ...My russian M44 mosin nagant hits harder. If your a teenage boy you should be able to more then handle it. If for whatever reason you cant, a rubber recoil pad is only like ten bucks. 30-06 is fun to shoot and I'm actually addicted to recoil.
@mattfoor all i can say is be ready i shot 30-06 last week shot a deer it knocked the deer over got back up and fell back over so it has a hell of a kick
Problem with those is the pot metal floor plate and trigger guard. Winchester fixed a lot of the problems, With the XTR's my view a much better rifle. As for that ammo, its corrosive so you clean it well by running a lot of hot water thru the bore and use a lots of hoppe's # 9 and then dry and light gun oil on a patch. If you over look its short comings and that rifle has a few then tend to shoot well once you get the betting and trigger worked over some. Good truck rifle
The scope of this beautifull rifle, does it have mildots or how does the scope look?
DLemre 1 week ago
@DLemre .. it's a round with basic crosshairs no mildots or anything. just your standard crossed lines.

Hows the recoil ive havent shot a 30-06
macdaddysal 2 months ago
@macdaddysal ...recoil is very manangable. heavy but doable. magnum 12 gauge hurts more. 30-06 is like being pushed back, not kicked.

Made in Japan? Put a Leupold on that Winchester and come back home Komoto.
alhovde19 1 year ago
@alhovde19 ...vintage japanese optics are of high quality.
67mustangreg 1 year ago
@alhovde19 The world of scopes does not begin and end with Leupold. As mentioned... the older Japanese optics are of good quality.
My M70 is wearing a Swarovski though.

Hey Greg,
What about the brand-new ones made in S.C.? They're said to be better than the pre-64s. Any advice?

Great rifle, but how does this model reload? Stripper clips. en bloc clips, or just removing the spent cartridge and reload by hand?
MrMoros1 1 year ago
@MrMoros1 ...it has a box magazine with a floor plate.

@MrMoros1 reload by hand it takes a good 5 to 6 sec to releoad a spent cartlige with a new one

For looks only. It makes the difference between a working man's rifle and a "nicer" rifle.
