@wanaquian Really? I was sure that NYC fined them or at least tried to fine them because even though the street was shutdown, the actual level of craziness that ensued was not disclosed to the city and the city wasn't expecting it to get that out of control.
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
I could imagin that happening in new york city lol, though the trouble you would get into today, i guess they started showing the old series on ovation yesterday mar 21, 2010
I love the original myself yet I'm not an 80s baby :( I knew when they did new one I would never watch it in the cinemas so i waited till it came on Sky, I was totally right that it never compared to the original plus i love Irene Cara's "fame" :)
When Irene Cara comes out on the stoop and says, " God, that's me!", and the look of surprise/joy/happiness because people seem to like it, that is genuine.
Also, the original characters/actors were all unknowns at the time(unlike the new one Frasier and Lilith Crane, plus the loudmouth from Will & Grace), and people used from the school as well, so it felt "real/gritty", and you gave a damn about the people in it. Not like the new one. Cardboard cutout/stereotypes. Plus, anyone who uses a tone machine in a song is nothing but a Karaoke singer IMHO.
Also, this FAME(1980) showed NYC as it really was at the time. A dump. Remember, NYC in the 1970's went broke, and all those broken down buildings were all over the place and NYC was a scary place to alot of people at the time.

@DarkOneKmikaze NO IT ISN"T. THE DISCO SCENE WAS MASSIVE BEFORE THIS FILM, ALSO A LOT OF THE TRUE SCENE WAS ABOUT TONS OF DIRTY SEX AND SEXY DANCING. THIS WALLOPING PILE OF WATERED DOWN JUNK IS NOT A PERCEPTIVE SOCIAL COMMENTARY. IT DIDN"T MAKE TEENAGERS! IT WASN"T GROUNDBREAKING. WHEN I WAS A KID THIS WAS ONE OF THE FIRST ALBUMS I BOUGHT. I WAS A DUMB LITTLE KID. IT WASN'T HARD TO MAKE THE MOVIE COS IT EARNED THE COMPANY A TON OF BUCKS, its no more groundbreaking than the fucking fonze
Classic what is so funny is that this scene was shot in 1979 and they were actually dancing to Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff" as the original soundtrack was dubbed over. If you want to look at the original street go to Google Earth and go to 120 West 46th Street pan around and you will see the a church across the street from the original PA school the church should be on the right side. Once you see the church than your looking at the same scene streetscape from the movie.
Ahh the memories. I used to run home from school to watch the t.v series. I used to drive my mum mad by sliding down the banister singing Fame!!. The new film is OK but it has nothing on the original so I was dissapointed
I did see the new version: If you don't know the original movie or the series, then the new movies is actually quite good. However, for someone like me who saw the original movie, and watched the television series, it was a serious disappointment. The story line (and characters) were not true to the original story line, only 1 of the original songs made it in the movie (and no, it was not "Fame"... although that song is played during the closing credits).
Well, what I ment is that I do like the new version of the SONG, I didnt have the idea to go and watch the movie because it is always a big disappointment to watch the new version of any I mean ANY orininal movie, the last time I did that I wanted to leave the room but I was with more people so I had to stay.
Remakes are usually never as good as the original take Miami Vice for example, when you compare the movie remake to the original show the movie feels and looks like rotten wood!
This scene gives me goose bumps. Pure unadulterated rebellion and chaos, gotta love it. Best scene of the movie and one of the best movie scenes in the history of film.

Irene Cara as Coco appears between 1:02, 1:03 and 1:04 in this video. I learned that will be a remake of the movie in 2009. Well I'm already famous around the place I work at and I did a bit of acting in plays in high school and was involved a movie about solving problems in school.
Thank u for posting this video. This movie was the reason I selected Creative and Performing Arts H.S in Phila to attend. I went there from 1981 to 1985. The first two years were just like the movie.
