  • good thing my GP threw a rod

    :D

  • I don't see too many white fire trucks

  • to the owner, i'm very sorry for your loss my heart goes out to you. he's in the dragstrip in the sky now :'(

  • I love how the car is burning and people are laughing. Are you kidding me?

  • @JustinJMiller The recession hadnt hit this part of the country yet.

  • All these people are bad talking like its 100% gms falt.... If the person would have been keeping an eye on there oil levels like they are supposed to they would also have noticed the oil coming out of the valvecover.

  • I hope GM gave you a brand new car...

  • @TebooTedMarshall no! He totally got screwed over on the whole thing! GM hates their customers.

  • thats what i call a tire burnout

  • I had a 98 Grand Prix that did the same thing after being parked for a few minutes

  • well at least is not the GTP :)

  • just buff it out, will be like brand new

  • In the beginning you can see another potential victim (Monte Carlo). Wonder when they'll post their vid?

  • you can buff that out

  • real or not BURN EVERY PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GT 2003 TO THE MOTHER FUCKING GROUND FUCKING LEAKING CAR COCKSUCKING GM CAN BLOW ME COCK SUCKING CHODE BUTTERNUT ANAL RAPPED EPILPTEC SEIZURE IN A STROBE LIGHT CONVENTION JIZZ IN THEIR FUCKING FACE!! just collected insurance fraud had my car stolen fuck pontiac start over

  • @DoggyEnterprise How is that Pontiac's fault if your car was stolen?

  • THATS ONE HOT CAR

  • I have a se so mine won't catch fire will it. I think they should take those plastic covers off. Maybe that absorbs to much heat to.

  • i would throw a snowball on it ! xD

  • I have a 2000 pontiac grand prix gt and I just got the "09047 Engine Compartment Fire Campaign Recall Completed Per GM" recalled fix and I hope it doesn't do it to me.

  • my buddys grand prix went up in flames last night. burnt to the ground.

  • did you just end up sandblasting off the engine parts?

  • i just replaced my intake manifold on mine with metal :P

  • i thought the recall said it was do to oil leaking onto somthing hot idk i would be so bumed

  • How did the fire start?

  • well thats literally one "smoking hot " grand prix lol btw why was their a fire fighter at the beginning but no firetrucks was he the early worm arriving before the firetruck?i always thought firefighters came with a fire truck not by themselves lol

  • It seems like all the grand prix videos are the same story...got it fixed a week prior to the fire.

    Sorry dude.

  • ok Chief wheres your SCBA?

  • What City Its The ?

  • @SDCalifornia1 outside of Bellaire, Ohio

  • @hoyhoy42 wouldn't it be more like outside of shadyside, oh?

  • A little electrical tape and some touch up paint and this baby will be good as new.

  • well dam i was thinkin a grand prix might be my next car but im seeing wayyyyy to many videos on here with these cars catching fire

  • they just needed to have to recall repair then they wont catch on fire

  • Yep. O-Ring's leak when the fuel pressure is low. When the engine is running, they tend to not leak for the most part. When the engine is shut down, the fuel pressure bleeds off, then starts to leak out the connection, and if enough leaks and hits the crossover pipe, the fumes can catch fire. Remember, the manifolds and crossover pipes get hotter for a few minutes after the engine is shut off, thus making it easier for the fumes to catch.

  • This fire started after the car was parked for several minutes if that helps.

  • Another possibilty is that the EGR tube that runs inside the plastic upper intake manifold melts and lets coolant into the combustion area, either causing a fire or hydrolocking your engine.

  • Do you people really think such a hot raging fire is caused by a few drips of oil on an exhaust manifold? The problem is with the plastic fuel line and a cracked fuel injector o-ring or quick disconnect o-ring. Im sure many cars on the road have leaking valve cover gaskets, and they're not catching fire left and right. Gm uses an anemic plastic fuel line and a thin o-ring to begin with, and after being exposed to heat and vibration, they can let go, if not caught and changed in time.

  • @SuperSportSS mine has caught fire 3 times over the years and all three times it was the oil at fault. I started to use use an engine degreaser on a weekly basis and so far so good. Its got 197,xxx on it now and seems to be leaking more by the month. Many performance companies for the 3800 sell rebuild kits for the intake manifolds that get great reviews. Never seen a rebuild kit for the "o"ring or these plastic fuel lines your talking about.

  • @gpgab971 Thank you. You're comment confirms my theory. Yes, the valve cover gaskets do go bad, and do leak, and can cause a fire. Since you said your GP caught fire 3 times, this shows me the fire was not nearly as hot as the fire in this video, or the other ones on youtube. The fire in this video (and others) are so hot that its literally melting the front half of the car, tells me that it is not a simple oil on a hot manifold fire. I bought new rings at the parts store. Mine were cracked bad.

  • @SuperSportSS Did burn through some plug wires and melt the manifold, and part of the throttle body one time. The other was hot enough to char paint on the hood and destroy my radiator. Oil burns much much hotter than gasoline, and if it pools up on top of the valve covers it only adds to the problem. Many 3800's are soaked on both cylinder banks from this problem. If i hadn't caught the fires quick enough it could have become far worse as seen in this video. I caught mine in a matter of seconds.

  • @gpgab971 Im not saying youre wrong, just saying that most of the 3.8 fires are fuel related. You can't tell me that the fire in the video above is an oil fire. The car is in the middle of the road. Oil fires do not ignite that rapidly. Lots of stories on the internet of 3.8's stalling, then igniting instantly after. Again, im not saying youre wrong, im saying youre lucky! Check your fuel lines! Wiggle the connector, they just may leak fuel. Just lookin out for ya.

  • @SuperSportSS I hear ya, and i'm not saying that it could not be fuel related. The car was travelling, which is why he says "...parked several minutes." That tells me that it could have gotten hot enough whilst driving. Also if you listen closely he says in the video that it was parked next to a garage or something like that, so it's not just an instant fire. Mine was the same exact way, each time it had been parked and moments later i caught a glimpse of orange through the fender well.

  • The GTs had a recall also. They replaced the spark plug channels in my 2001 model because oil from the valve cover could drip on the manifold and light the plastic channels on fire. They replaced them with little plastic clips... I didn't like that very much so I made aluminum channels myself and changed the gaskets.

  • Three weeks before, this GT had "09047 Engine Compartment Fire Campaign Recall Completed Per GM" by the dealership.

  • @hoyhoy42 - so much for recalls being properly done.

  • @hoyhoy42

So there was a recall on these cars? Man I would of been upset if this was my car burning up. Usually you would never get any problems from some of the cars that GM will make but if Pontiac was such a good line why did they stop making them also. I remember some people in my family had them and they were good cars but they stopped making them.

  • Not all fires are caused by leaking valve covers. Ive seen many GT's and GTP's in the junkyards with the engine torched at the intake manifold. On the GTP's the o-ring in the quick disconnect lines on top of the supercharger leak, and theres reports of people catching their fire in time to just see flames on top of the S/C. Also with the GT's, the fire damage ive seen on the majority of them is at the valve cover. Plastic fuel line and injectors are completely burned up, valve covers look new...

  • The recall was only for GTP supercharged engines. The video title says GT and that would be a 3800 non supercharged or Naturally aspirated engine. I had a 2000 GT(I now have a 04 GTP) and didn't receive a notice but I change the valve cover gasket's my self just to be safe. I have seen several car fires that start from AMPS and speakers and that brings me to the next question why is the trunk open. Did you manage to save your amp/speakers lol.

  • was there that same recall on the 98?

  • I agree with you hoyhoy. It will definitely need new tires.

  • You called me out.

  • damn that sux. i have a gt too and there was a recall that said would start a fire. something about hot oil getting into the retainer things or whatever. jeez sry bout your car.
