Henin is on performance enhancing drugs in this tournament. Why is so muscular all of a sudden?...Why has the stamina improved so much in a matter of weeks?...The next year she retires because she isn't on the drugs and getting walloped by Sharapova and Serena.
what I dont understand these days is that people & some experts always says to serena, henin, clijsters as the greats in their generations. the question is where is venus? Its true that these days she is not the same player ever but her achievement is definitely a lot more then kim. Venus desserve more praise then kim does.
Henin played great in 2007 incredible even but i think that's what destroyed her body for 2008 and playing out of her means like that ruined her elbow so sad
@markisb62 Venus was diagnosed with Anemia.. which accounts for her dizziness and fatigue. She still played one hell of a match considering how below 100% she was
when HENIN was # 1 EVERYONE was playing well, they had no choice if they wanted to win tournaments, the minute she retired the WTA tour went down-hill from there and im not even a henin fan just statin the facts :)
Venus fought hard but she was nowhere near her best in the match. Just watch the rallies -- so many of Venus's shots were right up the middle of the court. Venus at her best would be moving the ball around much better, and would have won this match. Still a good one though, very entertaining.
Henin's sneaky and devious little eyes were finding Carlos Rodriguez EVERY THIRTY SECONDS in every match she played. Her vibe is just awful and she simply appeared to be a mindcontrol victim. Rodriguez' control over her was just ridiculous...
@markisb62 no way venus played her best i feel during th 2005 wimbledon, and the full match will show u venus struggled the whole time with disiness because she was suffering from some illness.
@markisb62 This was NOT the best Venus played and any tennis fan would know this! Venus said after the match she felt dizzy during the match due to her autoimmune medical condition.
@markisb62; and it's a stupid comment of yours, Venus never complaints and always gives her oponnents credits for their game. You are just a hater lol.
Well Venus was definately looking very tired at points during that match. I think she was suffereing from anaemia. I didnt just invent that because if u look at why she didnt compete in certain events
of course henin had a losing record to venus.. she had to play venus during venus peak of tennis.. 2001- 2003.. henin was still developing he game... had henin played her more during 2005 - 2010 she would have had more wins on venus. a improved record.... u can look at it that way because henin had a record on serena 6- 8.. because she got to play serena more during 2007- 2010..
henin only got to play venus once in 2007.. none in 2005 or 2004 and onward..
.. during 2007 wimbledon... while both henin and venus were in good form... because henin had not played venus in years.. she was soo nervous about going to the final to play venus...thats why she choked against bartoli... had henin played venus once or in that back long gap of not playing venus.. and managing to get a win on her perhaps she would have been more relaxed and went to that final and perhaps beating venus? looking back we all know why henin choked at wimbledon that year...
Justine is very good at the net, she's quick and precise and agile. I really really love her techniques, almost perfect. If only she had a stronger body and being taller, she can demolish almost any kind of players with that beautiful 1 handed backhand of hers.
She had already defied all odds to win 7 GS with that fragile body showed how much determination one takes to win.
@davetennisx mmm.... not in best form. Henin´s victories were more significant. besides the match could have changed if ms. williams didn´t misconduct.
@davetennisx thats what i mean. with kim serena still had chances to win. no one can beat her. it was unfortunate we couldn´t see serena´s comeback.
when henin beat serena in 2007 in all slams... serena still wasn´t in her best.
what i mean here is henin beat serena which is acceptible but clijsters win over serena in 2009 ... was unfortunate..serena would win it for sure if she didn´t get so emotional.
@shucham Oh, I see. Sorry for the misunderstanding. But still, we shouldn't assume Serena was gonna beat Clijsters if she hadn't flipped on her lid on the lineswoman. Nobody knows for sure what could have happened.
@SmashSpencer So? Billie Jean King doesn't decide who's the best. I will say that Justine was probably on her way to becoming the best of her generation, but she retired and couldn't add to her slam tally. Also, she never won Wimbledon. How can she be the "best player of her generation" without winning tennis' Holy Grail?
@davetennisx It's about the fullness of Justine's game when you watch her. I agree that her retirement was a big part of what made her not win more because her style when she came back in 2010 was nowhere near as good as it is here. But give me any great year from a Woman Tennis player of the last 10-12 years and I'll take Justine's 2007 year over any of them.
@ilikeatingcats I would say Henin's 2007 comes VERY VERY close :P In terms of the technical aspects Henin is the clear winner(Serena wins in the power department), seeing as she's able to produce winners with MUCH less POWER +she has that frail body that makes it even more exciting to watch seeing as she's 5'5
@SmashSpencer Billie Jean King can say whatever she wants but Henin is NOT the best of her generation when she NEVER won Wimbledon. Henin lost to Bartoli of all people in 2007 and she admitted to being nervous about potentially facing Venus in the Wimbledon final that year. Henin said she is scared of Venus.
@Oryem For example. Dementieva vs. Serena Wimbledon 2009 semifinal.(serena won) Both in-form. Demetieva vs Serena 2009 sydney final. both in form ( serena lost)
Henin-Venus 2007 us semi ( both in-form) Henin won.
Example: Serena vs. Hantuchova 2006 australian open 3rd round (serena out of form) Hantuchova won.
Unfortunately most of serena´s losses come when she is not in form.
I give credit to henin to beat serena and venus. but kim clijsters wins are only in the williams´ bad form!
Clijsters has beaten both Serena and Venus on some of their best form - particularly CLijsters wins over Serena in 2003, again in 2009 at the USO (Clijsters was the better player that day even though Serena was playing well). And Clijsters has been the better player each of the last times she's won the USO, beating VEnus all 3 times, esp in 2005 when both players were at their peak. Never seen two women hit the shit outta the ball as much as in that QF 2005 USO match
@StewNWT you're absolutely right. Actually, Kim & Justine were the only competition for the Williams sisters (and maybe Sharapova and Dementieva in the end). Kim gave away 2 matches against Serena in us open '99 and australian '03. Kim is able to withstand their power, and take over the rally with her own power.
in this match you can clearly see that venus is trying this just shows u how much confidence henin had in 07 she was incredible to watch even if i can't stand her sometimes.
. during 2007 wimbledon... while both henin and venus were in good form... because henin had not played venus in years.. she was soo nervous about going to the final to play venus...thats why she choked against bartoli... had henin played venus once or in that back long gap of not playing venus.. and managing to get a win on her perhaps she would have been more relaxed and went to that final and perhaps beating venus? looking back we all know why henin choked at wimbledon that year...

"venus struggled the whole time with disiness because she was suffering from some illness."
Yea, you're probably right about the dizziness, after all ANYONE seeing Justine on the other side of the net would get awful dizzy.
But as far as suffering from an illness?
Nah, she was most likely having a "panic-attack-man". =P
