Some unions help.. But look at the grievances that are filed if you try to do your job and "take work" from a union worker who's not even present and the work site. Generally speaking, the unions (mainly the northern states') are inefficient.

First she says the UAW killed GM and Chrysler. Then she says Ford is OK because it was a better managed company. GM, Chrysler and Ford UAW workers all made the same amount and all had the same benefits. The management at the companies was the only difference.
Seems plain to me if the workers are the same and the management is different you cannot blame the workers when one company fails and another is fine.

I worked with unions all the time! And I assure you GM Union destroyed GM! One guy at GM told me how his life was threatened by other Union workers because he was working too hard... so his solution, he works hard for 1/2 day then goes home... they let him do that while the other guys worked all day. @Philb2222 Yes a standard Chap 11 Bankruptcy would have been the best thing for GM. GM was making some of the necessary changes in their cost structure before they were hit by this government caused recession. Then the Obama Admin forced out the CEO who was making the necessary tough decisions to turn GM around. GM now has good product-at least as good as Ford. It's the internal cost structure with pensions and the like that is crippling the company. This is mostly the fault of the UAW.

First she says the UAW killed GM and Chrysler. Then she says Ford is OK because it was a better managed company. GM, Chrysler and Ford UAW workers all made the same amount and all had the same benefits. The management at the companies was the only difference.
Seems plain to me if the workers are the same and the management is different you cannot blame the workers when one company fails and another is fine.

I worked with unions all the time! And I assure you GM Union destroyed GM! One guy at GM told me how his life was threatened by other Union workers because he was working too hard... so his solution, he works hard for 1/2 day then goes home... they let him do that while the other guys worked all day. GM workers are Lazy!

@Philb2222 Yes a standard Chap 11 Bankruptcy would have been the best thing for GM. GM was making some of the necessary changes in their cost structure before they were hit by this government caused recession. Then the Obama Admin forced out the CEO who was making the necessary tough decisions to turn GM around. GM now has good product-at least as good as Ford. It's the internal cost structure with pensions and the like that is crippling the company. This is mostly the fault of the UAW.

Furthermore, Gettlefinger didn't refuse anymore concessions because "the fix was in" he refused anymore because the UAW had already made several concessions including 2nd tier wages ($14/hr) that originally was to affect only 20% of the workforce, but because of bankruptcy, was forced to include all new hires.
