  • Awesome. A 2001 parody!!

  • Principle Prick

  • Haha please drive carefully

  • @AlexPanacro That is her name... o.o

  • "The stuff that's new is automatically cooler than the stuff that's old."

Try telling that to the average fan of this show. :)

  • Gretchen is so annoying is this episode

  • sau has narsasistic personality disorder

  • Best reference to 2001: A space odyssey.

  • seems like this is what they're trying to do now in real life especially the bar coded restraint bracelets

  • Sal made GlaDos cry.

  • now you are drenched, lol, SAL

  • That robot thing scared me for abit

  • Have learned nothing from Space Odyssey 2001!?

  • @WooPatrick1234 seeing as how '01 has past i would like to think we have

  • This whole episode is a reference to 2001 a Space Odyssey, not just the beginning.

  • The beginning is a reference to 2001 a space Odyssey for those that do not understand. Go read the book or watch the movie.

  • Most controversial episodes in the series.

  • ha ha Hal 9000

  • Am I the only one reminded of Portals?

  • anybody notice how this shows constantly trying to hook kids on science? well it kinda got me into it. Now I have a job in it.

  • even the cartoon versions of hal are frightening

  • Why does everybody have a blueprint of the school

  • @ParallelSource you have an interesting point there lol

  • Omg this is the same as my school but not like sam 30000 my school (secondary) my head loves tec and we have it all over school!! wtf man but its WICKED

  • Omg this brings me back ween it was aired on tv and that's so raven and Hannah montana

  • @AlexPanacro that is a very good observation. lol student swinger girl. lol.

  • This brings back what they used to air on tv when I was younger...Codename Kids Next Door, Recess, Proud Family...now I watch MLP on my iPod (closet fan...) and Phineas and Ferb on tv. So many shows from my childhood either no longer air or still air but no longer have new episodes. In fact, a few weeks ago the final episode of Wizards of Waverly Place aired. :(

  • lol, they tried to throw the theory of evolution in yo face within the first 10 seconds, clever haha

  • - Am I Thee Only One That Doesn't Understand Thee First 12 Seconds Of This Episode ? !

  • @Trini2thebone77 It's a reference to 2001: Odyssey In Space, as it's the whole episode

  • @Trini2thebone77 Uncultured much?

  • @Trini2thebone77 Something to do with us being in our primitive form as monkeys then our jump through to using technology etc etc.

  • @Trini2thebone77 Actually this episode had many references to the film: "2001:A Space Odyssey" It's a really lame movie. I was forced to watch it my freshmen year in high school.

  • @nicodafilipino Lame? Um, the works of Stanley Kubrick are NOT lame.

  • @Trini2thebone77 its a parody of the film that the whole episode is parody-ing which is 2001 a space odyssey

  • @Trini2thebone77

Is it on purpose that you wrote "Thee" and spelled everything in CAPITAL LETTERs?

  • stanley kubrick's space odyssey watch it then u understand

  • @Trini2thebone77 It's supposed to show that from the dawn of time, people have enjoyed playing games (like football).

  • @Trini2thebone77 It reminds me of 2001 a space odyssey, I think its referencing that o_o

  • @Trini2thebone77 The entire episode is based off 2001 A Space Odyssey. The first 12 seconds was referencing the beginning of the film, where it showed the primitive ages.

  • Comment removed

  • @Trini2thebone77 it may be a reference to primitive times and representing the advance of technology or maybe it could just be for who knows

  • @Trini2thebone77 I understood it actually meant when the ball was thrown up those people got the idea to make a game it was an inspiration to the game rugby

  • @Trini2thebone77 i think it's suppose to represent mans relationship with technology.

  • @Trini2thebone77 The whole episode is a Parodie on the movie 2001 a Space Odysse, watch it and you get it.

  • @Trini2thebone77 It's a reference to the beginning of the movie 2001: A Space Odyessy, where the HAL 9000 computer takes over a ship, clearly parodied by SAL 3000. Find the clip on youtube and you'll get it

  • @Trini2thebone77 I think it's supposed to represent how primitive the playground looks compared to the futuristic feel of sal.

  • @Trini2thebone77 its a parody of the movie 2001 space odyssey; pretty clever..but kids that watch this show wouldnt ever guess that lmao

  • @Trini2thebone77 i suppose the evolution of football lmao

  • @Trini2thebone77 Then how exactly did you understand the rest of the episode?

  • Why would a school computer have a life support system?

  • OH GOD HAL9000 HOW DID HE GET BACK HERE!?

  • I love Recess, but this episode is kinda lame...........

    \

  • @longshot1535 It IS a newer episode, so eeyup. It seems quality just can't always stay as good forever. With the exception of wine from what I heard.

  • Why didnt Vince Take the ball away when it was the right size

  • FYI for whoever said Spinelli's idea to smash SAL is stupid. SAL was installed into the whole school and its surrounding area. If you crash its system, the school will experience a catastrophic collapse or worse. You have to shut a supercomputer down properly or risk a catastrophe

  • If I were Gus, I would've gone around to the front of the school

  • Why would a school need a life support system?

  • @IwubMaiColettie thats my question

  • Just putting this out there, but there is something very wrong when the technology is smarter than the creators.

  • oh, I used to love this cartoon! I forgot about it until now. I had to draw a cartoon for my art class and I chose the "Codename: Kids Next Door" because that's another cartoon I used to love, but now I wish I would've done this one!

  • I finally hear that he sings the school days song in the same tune as "Daisy Daisy" whoa... scary D: How did this never scare me when I was small!?

  • would you like me to sing you a song so so so sad

  • Just watched 2001: Space Odyssey today and somehow I remembered this episode. When I was a kid I never realized that this show was this awesome. I mean I knew it was good but a whole episode on Hal-9000 that's really fucking cool. Sal's voice is eerily similar to Hal's as well. Way to fucking go Recess! This show was everything to me when I was a kid and now it means even more.

  • You never tell TJ to remove his hat.......ever.....

  • How is it possible that Sal is more dickish than Hal was in '2001'?

  • "Open the podbay doors, Hal." ==> "Open the hallway door, Sal."

  • Comment removed

  • This episode scared me and that doesn't happen easily

  • "student swinger girl" so that's her real name!

  • at 3:29 sal isn;t on the school

  • This is the 4th episode I watched today. I remember watching this when I was little and I remember I loved TJ for some reason. Now I just think he's a cute little kid, all of them so simple and naive. I wish I had that. I'm 16 so I don't anymore. :( I have to deal with obnoxious teenagers.

  • @AnimalLover101195 Everyone has to deal with obnoxious teenagers when they reach high school stupid fuck

  • @AnimalLover101195 T.j is a cartoon stupid fuck

  • love this show!!!!<3<3<3 i watched this wen i was 4 i still remember!!!!!!

  • Sal reminds me of Glados of portal.

  • how could the computer have control over a wooden windows

theres just some stuff you dont want micro chips in!

  • i grew up watching recess on saturday/sunday mornings when i was like 7/8

now im watching it on youtube age 20 for memories

  • A word of advice, Sal: NEVER call Gretchen Grundler dumb

  • Sal was creeping me out since the beginning..

  • I never got the reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey... until Siri came along

  • 1:22 Prickley pushed the red button!! You neeeeever push the red button.

  • I haven't been able to zone out and just enjoy a show like that in a while. XD

  • I wish my elementary school was this exciting lol

  • The ironic thing is Sal 3000 was created by humans. :P

  • oh look i always wondered what michelle rodriguez looked like as a kid

  • 1:31. the best logic i have ever heard!

  • I love Recesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss:)

  • technology is a mans bestfriend hahha.

  • pretty crazy... a computer regulating virtually everything you do

  • well sal is gone...now where is my cake?

  • @Gslash8764 THE CAKE IS A LIE!!!

  • i'm affraid i can't let you do that

  • 1:33

Tough luck, Spinelli! Stuff that's old-school can be automatically cool too!

  • 0:15 Spinelli got gang raped!

  • 2001: A School Odyssey

  • at @7:51 gordys hat was green but at @8:00 his hat was black :/

  • proof that the animators know really good movies, I like that they got some the exact shots from 2001

  • Would you like me to sing a song, It is called Daisy.

  • funny cause it reminds me a lot of Siri!

  • @namenotshannah me too!

  • Poor Gretchen she just got called dumb by a stupid freaking computer named Sal 3,0000

  • If I had a computer like that I would shut down the bucket of bolts

  • Ah the nineties.

  • So we watched 2001 a space odyssey in my cinema class today...all I could think of was this episode. I wish the movie was as entertaining as this episode!! I couldn't keep my attention on that movie for more than a minute or so :P

  • This is totally a rip off of A 2001 Space Odyssey, but this is a hell of a lot better.

  • @findingmyangel yeah haha its totally a parody of HAL9000.

  • @findingmyangel i call it a tribute :)

  • @findingmyangel not rip off, more like parody.

  • @wwhulk12 not a parody, more like an omage. I like correcting people on the internetz.

  • @afatdutch ?????? ok? What's an omage? Or was that just a troll correction?

  • @wwhulk12 lol what the hell is irony right???????

  • @afatdutch ?????? 0_o

  • @findingmyangel I'm sorry dave but that is incorrect. The original is far superior.

  • @Indego84 I agree, Hal, 2001 and 2010 are superior. they are....somthing wounderful. :P

  • @findingmyangel So on your "rip-off" meter, it'd be 5/5\10/10?

  • Umm 2001?

  • This kinda reminds me of I, Robot.

  • this is some illuminati shit

  • This episode alone has to have the most numerous references to 2001: A Space Odyssey; 1. The dawn of man sequence 2. Open the hallway (podbay) doors Sal (hal), I'm sorry Gus (Dave) I'm afraid i cannot do that & this conversation can serve no more purpose.

    3. Sal reading the gang's lips.

    4. Sal trying to reassure the kids and stop them then telling them that he's afraid and sings school days as opposed to Daisy Bell

  • Can somebody put batman TAS on YouTube?

  • That Sal thing is from Wall-E

  • @Bwkjam lol prob the other way round if u wana think like that, this episode is from like 2000, wall - E is from about 2008 (i think)

  • @Bwkjam no its not its from 2001, a space oddessy!

  • Vince sounds like Tucker from Danny Phantom

I know why Rickey D'Shon Collins voiced both

  • why would they ever make air vents that big?

  • 1:32-1:35 this old show is better than new ones:)

  • WHY DO THEY NEED A DIVERSION o.o its not like sal gonna touch them or anything.

  • @Adilshit cause hed keep the ceiling locked

  • I love how this whole episode is based on a movie that the target audience of the show would probably never have seen. Recess is the best thing ever

  • I thought Gordy's hat was green...

  • If you don't want the video deleted, put something about it being for educational use :)

  • if i got locked out of school, i would say fuck it and go home! lol

  • i'm 20, and I started watching all the episodes of recess again. such great memories <3

  • @NEScRETRO Im 20 too but I just LOVE this show, I still come here and watch all the episodes :)

  • @NEScRETRO mee toooo =D

  • Open the hallway door SAL! SAL! Open the hallway door!

  • omg wow i'm 21 years old and i loved watching this episode

  • @musefeverfever You are a kid at heart! Recess forever!

  • 6:48 errr that reminds me of a few teachers i know, minus the calling of dumb...

  • Prickly alright.

  • This is the best episode of this show I loooooove 2001

  • 3:12, 4:01, 5:05, 7:14 - 7:17, 8;22 > ten counts of child endangerment; 3:47 one count of child negligence; 6:01, 6:07, 6:37 three counts of unlawful imprisonment; 6:07 one count of false identity. Then again, how can you charge a computer with crimes, lol.

  • @donnelbc the company that invented that stupid computer should be sued. How can they invent something that can get so out control? Dont forget that it tried to take over the school and dismiss the teachers and principal. It was built to serve, not to take over.

  • @rxassistant Yes, it certainly seems like the company may be fraudulent or corrupt.

  • The original 2001: Space Odyssey was unbelievably slow-paced... and this spin-off is unbelievably fast-paced... intentional irony or limited time slot?

  • Lol most kids back then (including me) had no idea what this was a reference to.

  • @MarzX1802 I still dont know? Can you tell me? Does it have something to do with the illuminati? Or is just the technology gone so fast that you actually (almost) have this things today.

  • @marlb0r015 It's a reference to 2001: A Space Odyssey

  • @MarzX1802

isn't it a reference to 2001 a space oddeysey? (pardon my spelling)

  • geez if they cant open the doors or windows just smash through the windows are they stupid

  • Thumbs up if you watched 'space odyssey 2001' becasue of this or futurama.

  • If i'm not mistaken these kids have recess twice a day. when i was in grade school there were approximately 180 school day per year as there was winter vacation, spring vacation, summer vacation and of course, weekends. Factoring in this, over 5 years they would have missed less then 2 days of recess, not 29.

  • @donnelbc Actually, they would not have missed so much as a second of recess. It doesn't matter if the school clock is one minute or even one hour fast, the length of recess would remain the same. It is true that they end recess one minute and 23.2 seconds ahead of the actual school schedule, but that means they would have left for recess one minute and 23.2 seconds early. The bell is snchronized with the school clock, therefore the clock being fast is irrelevant.

  • @deathbypigx3h You make a good point. However your argument also assumes that the clock is passing time at a perfect rate of 60 seconds to a minute, 60 minutes to an hour. This is not always the case. There can be situations where a clock can track time too fast or too slow. I once had a digital alarm clock that started falling behind at a loss of about 2 minutes per day. So if I set it at say, "true" noon 1 day the next day at noon the clock would show 11:58; the next day 11:56, and so on.

  • @donnelbc If the clock became progressively ahead of the actual time, at your suggested 2 minutes, then it would become noticeable after only a month. With bus schedules, I doubt that the school clock would be allowed to become 30 minutes ahead without notice. Also, consider the observation. Gretchen said the clock was 1 minute 23.2 seconds fast. Even if it became progressively fast, then it could not have been that fast for every recess prior.

The bigger question: Why is recess over at 9 AM?

  • @donnelbc The reference to the clock only serves the purpose of setting the plot in motion. Without Gretchen's calculations, Spinelli would have had no incentive to hurl her football at the clock, Sal would not have replaced the old clock and we would have one less Recess episode to enjoy.

Speculating about things not strictly mentioned in the episode is pointless. The only valid information we are given is that the clock is 1 minute and 23.2 seconds fast. We will never know more than that

  • Its the mail aquivialancy of Gladus oh wait thats just Wheatley

  • Sal: Time for Recess!

    -5 seconds later-

    Sal: Recess is over!

  • Spinelli sounds like Rainbow Dash from My Little Pony: FiM

and acts kinda like her too!

  • I love all the 2001 references in this.
