Omg this is the same as my school but not like sam 30000 my school (secondary) my head loves tec and we have it all over school!! wtf man but its WICKED
This brings back what they used to air on tv when I was younger...Codename Kids Next Door, Recess, Proud Family...now I watch MLP on my iPod (closet fan...) and Phineas and Ferb on tv. So many shows from my childhood either no longer air or still air but no longer have new episodes. In fact, a few weeks ago the final episode of Wizards of Waverly Place aired. :(
@Trini2thebone77 Actually this episode had many references to the film: "2001:A Space Odyssey" It's a really lame movie. I was forced to watch it my freshmen year in high school.
@Trini2thebone77 The entire episode is based off 2001 A Space Odyssey. The first 12 seconds was referencing the beginning of the film, where it showed the primitive ages.
@Trini2thebone77 I understood it actually meant when the ball was thrown up those people got the idea to make a game it was an inspiration to the game rugby
@Trini2thebone77 It's a reference to the beginning of the movie 2001: A Space Odyessy, where the HAL 9000 computer takes over a ship, clearly parodied by SAL 3000. Find the clip on youtube and you'll get it
FYI for whoever said Spinelli's idea to smash SAL is stupid. SAL was installed into the whole school and its surrounding area. If you crash its system, the school will experience a catastrophic collapse or worse. You have to shut a supercomputer down properly or risk a catastrophe
oh, I used to love this cartoon! I forgot about it until now. I had to draw a cartoon for my art class and I chose the "Codename: Kids Next Door" because that's another cartoon I used to love, but now I wish I would've done this one!
Just watched 2001: Space Odyssey today and somehow I remembered this episode. When I was a kid I never realized that this show was this awesome. I mean I knew it was good but a whole episode on Hal-9000 that's really fucking cool. Sal's voice is eerily similar to Hal's as well. Way to fucking go Recess! This show was everything to me when I was a kid and now it means even more.
This is the 4th episode I watched today. I remember watching this when I was little and I remember I loved TJ for some reason. Now I just think he's a cute little kid, all of them so simple and naive. I wish I had that. I'm 16 so I don't anymore. :( I have to deal with obnoxious teenagers.
So we watched 2001 a space odyssey in my cinema class today...all I could think of was this episode. I wish the movie was as entertaining as this episode!! I couldn't keep my attention on that movie for more than a minute or so :P
This episode alone has to have the most numerous references to 2001: A Space Odyssey; 1. The dawn of man sequence 2. Open the hallway (podbay) doors Sal (hal), I'm sorry Gus (Dave) I'm afraid i cannot do that & this conversation can serve no more purpose.
3. Sal reading the gang's lips.
4. Sal trying to reassure the kids and stop them then telling them that he's afraid and sings school days as opposed to Daisy Bell
3:12, 4:01, 5:05, 7:14 - 7:17, 8;22 > ten counts of child endangerment; 3:47 one count of child negligence; 6:01, 6:07, 6:37 three counts of unlawful imprisonment; 6:07 one count of false identity. Then again, how can you charge a computer with crimes, lol.
@donnelbc the company that invented that stupid computer should be sued. How can they invent something that can get so out control? Dont forget that it tried to take over the school and dismiss the teachers and principal. It was built to serve, not to take over.
The original 2001: Space Odyssey was unbelievably slow-paced... and this spin-off is unbelievably fast-paced... intentional irony or limited time slot?
@MarzX1802 I still dont know? Can you tell me? Does it have something to do with the illuminati? Or is just the technology gone so fast that you actually (almost) have this things today.
If i'm not mistaken these kids have recess twice a day. when i was in grade school there were approximately 180 school day per year as there was winter vacation, spring vacation, summer vacation and of course, weekends. Factoring in this, over 5 years they would have missed less then 2 days of recess, not 29.
@donnelbc Actually, they would not have missed so much as a second of recess. It doesn't matter if the school clock is one minute or even one hour fast, the length of recess would remain the same. It is true that they end recess one minute and 23.2 seconds ahead of the actual school schedule, but that means they would have left for recess one minute and 23.2 seconds early. The bell is snchronized with the school clock, therefore the clock being fast is irrelevant.
@deathbypigx3h You make a good point. However your argument also assumes that the clock is passing time at a perfect rate of 60 seconds to a minute, 60 minutes to an hour. This is not always the case. There can be situations where a clock can track time too fast or too slow. I once had a digital alarm clock that started falling behind at a loss of about 2 minutes per day. So if I set it at say, "true" noon 1 day the next day at noon the clock would show 11:58; the next day 11:56, and so on.
@donnelbc If the clock became progressively ahead of the actual time, at your suggested 2 minutes, then it would become noticeable after only a month. With bus schedules, I doubt that the school clock would be allowed to become 30 minutes ahead without notice. Also, consider the observation. Gretchen said the clock was 1 minute 23.2 seconds fast. Even if it became progressively fast, then it could not have been that fast for every recess prior.
@donnelbc The reference to the clock only serves the purpose of setting the plot in motion. Without Gretchen's calculations, Spinelli would have had no incentive to hurl her football at the clock, Sal would not have replaced the old clock and we would have one less Recess episode to enjoy.
Speculating about things not strictly mentioned in the episode is pointless. The only valid information we are given is that the clock is 1 minute and 23.2 seconds fast. We will never know more than that
