  • Im always getting a wrong rhytm (sounds like a perfect 3 strike for espana cani) really facktapp when practising this one!!

  • Thank you for this, but I only know Volare song that uses this technique, is there any other songs ? i've learn this, but because lack of knowledge of the songs that uses this, i got bored... thanks again :D

  • Is it hard as it seems?

  • I understand there are a number of different techniques for playing triplet rasgueado. What, in your opinion are the advantages of this one? Thank you for posting.

  • @luckyfoodbar Strong sound and uses only one finger and the thumb.

  • After about a year and a half of working on this (from this specific video, no less), I'm finally comfortable enough to use this spontaneously when performing. I'm not a flamenco player at all, but if you're already capable of strumming without a plectrum using your thumbnail and your index fingernail, this technique is excellent for adding some rhythmic spice to your playing.

  • Great video. I have a question...When I do a P downstroke, sometimes my nail gets caught on a string. I was wondering if this has happened to you, and if so, what was your solution? Also, how much of the downstroke is your nail and how much is the flesh of your thumb? Thanks

  • @markey628 Try a slightly different angle on the downstroke. Yes the nail will hook if it is too long on the playing edge or if it is not very smooth. Get under the playing edge with a very fine nail buffing stick or folded piece of cardboard and give it a good polish. The flesh contacts first and you don't need very much nail at all. The nail should just glide across the strings once the initial contact is made by the flesh. There comments are meant as a guide only. Experiment.

  • That is interesting. Thank you. I always wondered how that was done.

Interesting, that there are two thumb strokes in a row, although in opposite direction. (One would think it perhaps easier to continue to alternate between thumb and finger.)

Is it only the middle finger that is used for the finger stroke, or is it multiple fingers?

  • For those of us with arthritis...... Have you seen some of the older guitarists manage to get through the pain and even increase their flexibility? Would wine help?

  • This is so difficult after you've been playing for like 8 years with a pick. I keep using my pointer finger when i pick up instead of my thumb.

  • perfect video. nevertheless, i can't do that. and im being trying for days

  • Brilliant

  • Great vid, really helpful!! Just a question, how long did it take for you to master this? I'm very much a novice, i just want to get an idea of how much consistent practice is needed... Thanks

  • @kayserus I avoid giving definitive answers to questions like this. It is very subjective and how long I took it master this will probably put you off rather than inspire you. The thing is I am not you. "How long" is a piece of string. It depends entirely on how much time you want to devote to practicing this. Get started now and maybe on six months you may have an answer to your own question. You may even surprise yourself and master it in four weeks.

  • @hersoveela No worries, i knew there's no definitive answer, but this kind of technique is so foreign to me that some kind of target to look forward to always helps.

I"m stuck on 125bpm with a lot of practice to come. Thanks!

  • umm does doing this technic suppose to give me blisters on my thumb ?

  • Muchas gracias. Ahora he aprendido claramente la técnica. Thanks, Now I have learnt the tecnique

  • i wan't to get good at this technique but i dont want to grow my nails. makes me look weird

  • @Seagerash u have to be very precise to get the same sound. look up grisha goyachev. he has short nail but can still make same sound

  • respeckt the best triplet lesson viedeo in youtube thank you thank you

  • this is rumba not rasqueo, rasqueo is 2 or 3,4 fingers with or witout the abanico..

  • Great video, for the first time it really made sense. A few minutes practice and I got up to half speed!

  • and have u got such nails?)

  • for some it remains a dream :< great video man!

  • im gonna break the strings sheet who has found out that technic

  • everyone who doesn't understand this or get the strokes right get pumping nylon by scott tennant, it's a cheesy title but it teaches you finger strength and also this technique.

  • thks sir ;)

  • it's hard to get , but if you practice only one day doing it slowly and corretly you get it the following day!

but it really hurts the thumb !! so i can't do it anymore.

there are other ways the get a similar sound

  • Puhh.... I need to practice this more!

I don't fully understand the direction of the strokes though.... which finger strums directly on the strings and which one slides over the strings? Thanks a lot hersov :)

  • Up with thumb

Down with middle and/or ring finger

    Down with thumb

Practice it slowly and make sure the movement comes from the wrist.

    Hi Sal :)

  • Thanks! I figured it out and it's pretty cool :D

When I play it, it's a bit of a circle movement of my wrist that makes it easier. Now off to look up songs to use this technique! 8)

  • Thank you so much for this video! I'm surprised I picked this up so fast, the comments made me nervous. Far from perfect, but it's starting to sound pretty good.

  • Beautiful guitar! Beautiful lesson!

What is the guitar's top wood made out of?

  • Bieeen, en casi cuatro días

  • nice... i think it´s excelent three speeds.

    thanks

could tel us the chord??? so we can try to igualate the sound.

  • A minor

  • thanks

  • SO HARD i try no use

  • Try again.

  • very cool!

  • NOSSA INCRIVEL!

  • very nice ive been working on this stuff and this is a good visual.

  • actually just watching your other video...using I three times in a row could be an issue compared to I down up then pinkie

  • i practised rasguedo for many years the wrong way as in Index to Pinkie. Does this matter for anything?

  • I believe it's counter productive to think in terms of wrong and right. All I can say is why limit yourself. Try different methods. You will soon find a way that gives you the sound you want and feels comfortable for you.

    Sal

  • i just wondered if there would be a situation where it would be a problem. i learned tremelo picking the other way round as well on classical...strange person.

  • I'm now learning rumba and flamenco styles after 8 years on electric guitar and its so different in the philosophy and technique ,like two different worlds!

i still cant get use to the idea that my picking hand moves in 2 dierections at the same time :)

    GREAT VIDEOS !

  • MONEY!!!!!

  • Helpful Video..

  • What kind of a guitar is that???????

  • A nylon string guitar of standard design. Nothing fancy or unusual about this guitar.

    Sal

  • top job sir!

  • thankyou mate!

  • Fantastic lesson, I long for the day when my fingers can reproduce this technique as perfectly as you show it here.

  • One more thing, your lessons are really terrific hersoveela. As a teacher, I'm always trying to improve my own teaching technique and approach, along with my playing. Teaching is most deffinately a skill and an art, that needs to be honed and polished often in order to keep it fresh.

Your lessons are step by step and easy to follow and I love your camera agles, as it makes learning much easier, especially for the novest. Anyway, great job! Thanks. Peace.

  • Great lesson! I've been playing and teaching guitar for 26 years, various styles. However I've always flirted with Flamenco guitar and studied it a bit, but then would put it down for awhile. Lately, I've begun to study the style again, much more seriously. One of the techniques that I've really wanted to become more fluent in, is of course the triple rasqueado. Your lesson is just what I was looking for. Great, great! Thank you, you've made my day. Peace.

  • clean!

  • Thanks!!!

  • great demonstration, I always wondered how the triplet was done.

  • Amazing, thatnks for taking us through it step by step.

  • Ad hoc balquarkian!

  • Thank you. Your very kind.

    Sal

  • thanks

  • yeah u cant imagine my hapiness i ve been looking for that stroke such a long time

  • This rules. Nice video!

  • I simply love your guitar

  • this is making my thumb bleed

  • No. It doesn't hurt or feel tense or anything like that.

    Sal

  • no it does i don't no why!!

  • @GoodFellah69 get nylon strings

  • thanks man.

  • asu!! bien eh ;)

  • Nice lesson. Thaks a lot

  • To the guy who thinks his triplet sounds like s***. You are absolute on the correct path to make it sound correctly. Only because the fact that you can recognize that it does not sound good. My philosophy on guitar playing is pretty simple. You can only play as good as you can hear or listen.

  • With the exception of Beethoven.

He was completely deaf shortly after turning 20 :)

  • I've been practicing this and so far the part that gives me the most trouble is the down stroke with the thumb. When I come down with it my nail gets caught in the strings sometimes and instead of making a smooth sound with the strings, I get one nasty "plank!" sound. Is it a nail size issue?

  • Do the downstoke really slow to find out which part of the nail edge is hooking and shave it down a touch on the underneath and around that part of the edge. If hooking is not the problem, try polishing the underside of the nail and adjust your stroke so that both nail and flesh strike together. Either way it may be just a slight adjustment to get it right. Also practice the downstroke by itself until you get the angle right to get a good sound.

  • hoca otomatiğe bağlamış sağ eli bilekten yukarısı sabit! hey Allahım böle görünce hiç gitar çalasım gelmii

  • how long did it take you to learn this triplet rasgueado properly, untill it sounded reasonable?

Not just a question for hersoveela, but everyone, I'm practicing this for about 2 months almost everyday about 15 minutes or half an hour and it still sounds like real S***.

  • To be honest, about 6 months. It gets even better the more you do it after that. Don't give up. Keep practicing slowly and with purpose, relaxing between each strike. One fine day, it will stop sounding like shit and you will never look back. Breaking through the wall happens suddenly so look forward to that time. If you hands start to feel stressed and stiff, take a break and shake your hands often to get the circulation going.

    Sal

  • I thank you for you answer. I sure will keep practicing, I do have to say it does sound better than 2 months ago, it's just frustrating if it doesn't work, but I will keep my disciplin.

Got to say that I slowly started thinking something was wrong with me :p.

But seriously thank you, it gives me a certain period to keep in mind, that I can't learn it after a couple of weeks practice.

I don't have a clue on how, but I forgot to tell you how good your performances are.

  • Should you ONLY be hitting the strings w/ the nail on the second P stroke?

  • Flash and nail together. It's the flesh that contacts first but of course if there is no contact with the nail you would not get much sound.

  • what is this dude??

    amaziiinnn***

  • Thanks you so much for these vids. As a classical guy who has afew flamenco elements in his pieces, you just saved me a ton of cash on flamenco lessons. Thanks again :)

  • Poetry in motion. Big thanks for all your videos posts my friend.

  • My guess is that you are Turkish, right.

  • on an acoustic!

  • this is a classic guitar. not an acustic.

  • thanks a lot I'm learning tons

  • cheers for helping me...i'm wanting to professionally play flamenco guitar and move over to spain soon, and when i play the one thing i couldnt was this....and you have learnt me well thankyou...or gracias!

  • Gotta stop biting my nails. Nice vid.

  • Biigg thanks for sharing your videos! they are very helpful for someone who just started learning flamenco technique:) take care

  • Is there certain strings your aiming for with each strum? Good video......

  • Depends on the chord. In this case (E major) I try for 5 strings both ways. If I occasionally get only 4, I don't get stressed about it.

  • Hi. I've been following a Learn Flamenco video that shows the triplet uing a thumb(up)-middle(down)-index finger(down) sequence. Is that wrong?

  • actually, there is no such thing as right or wrong. This is just the way I do it. Try it. If you like it, use it. If you see another way to get a similar effect, and you prefer that, then use that one instead. Guitar playing is a very personal thing. There are no set "rules" that everyone must follow, only guides to experiment with until you find what is best FOR YOU.

    Cheers

  • Thanks. I've been giving 'your' way a try - find the down thumbstroke move a bit awkward. I also read about a thumb (up), little finger down, index finger (down) sequence, which strikes me as being the trickiest of all. But, as you say, whatever suits.

  • --"I also read about a thumb (up), little finger down, index finger (down) sequence, which strikes me as being the trickiest of all."--

I believe Paco Pena uses this one to get a softer sound. He showed one of my early teachers and my teacher showed it to me. I also found it tricky. Even though I didn't like it myself because I preferred a stronger sound, I still practiced it for finger exercise.

  • Had Eureka moment today, Sal! Have been getting weird looks from my wife for days, doing air guitar movements with my fingers whilst out and about :) Started off mechanically, then speeded up, and my unconscious must have taken over because I suddenly found myself doing quite a reasonable hi-speed helicopter twirling movement. Thanks for your help.

  • very helpful :)

  • That's so hard! my fingers won't cooperate!!

  • its easy i can do it just not that fast

  • hey, this vid is really usefull, cheers.

  • Extremely helpful. I've been playing classical guitar for 12+ years and I *still* can't get my head (or fingers) round this. You'd never believe my first guitar teacher was a flamenco man... Pah! New strings, new fingers!

  • Thank you Sal..I always wanted to learn this...ahhh I am still wanting to learn this......I will get it someday.

  • The wolfman plays flamenco guitar huh?

    That's one hairy arm!

  • On the up-stroke you're using your thumb there, right?

  • Yes.

    P up (first stroke)

    m down (second stroke)

    P down (third stroke)

    3 strokes.

Visit my website. Go to the lessons page and look for "triplet rasgueado PMP". You can also download a free ebook with full details.

  • So, what is the first stroke? Is he going - a(up) m(down) p(down) ? or m(up) m(down) p(down)? Somebody help please? :)

  • awesome lessons man.

  • I think your lessons are great!! Could you also put on a lesson about a tipical flamenco scale (wich you find in all the solo's, focused on the left hand, with the hammer on/off (ligado i think). I've been practising flamenco for a while now, but i never can produce a tipical flamenco riff....

  • Thank you sir.

  • thank you, I wanted to learn this technique for a long time.

  • amazing.... gee i got alot to learn.

  • wow,
