THIS was the motor! Among others, of that era, I watched Connie Kalitta win Top Fuel @ the 1967 Winternationals with a 427 SOHC hemi Ford powered fuel car ~ Connie was running the "cammer" Ford with a 6-71 GMC blower and Crowder fuel injection (bug catcher style). The only chronic problem that the Ford "cammer" had was with the timing chain. The late "Sneaky" Pete Robinson got around the problem with a gear design; it looked, exposed, like the inside of a pocket watch with the back removed.
I saw another SOHC Galaxie at Woodward in 2010. It was orange in color. An event like Woodward will fool you into thinking these cars are more common.
A friend of mine came over last weekend in a 66 chevelle ss 396 that belongs to his dad. We went for a ride and he took me back over to his dads business here in town. Once we got there he opened up a garage door and there was another car covered with a car cover. He pulled the car cover off and there was a 1964 Ford Galaxi 500 with a 427 sohc his dad got at the barret Jackson auction for 125,000.00. I got my picture taken with it. Just standing next to that car took my breath away.
The holy grail!!!!

I am in love. I will keep my 390, but If I had the money and the time I would build that beauty.

The 427 SOHC is a beautiful engine. I wouldn't want to adjust that 6 feet cam chain though... :-)
