Sheryl Crow's version was alright, but after hearing this I thought this definitely should've been the Opening. The reason being is that after hearing this, I was ready and pumped but the film was over... :/
What a voice...chocolate, velvet and oh soooo sublime! No one can outmatch her! We are so privileged to be able to hear this in our lifetime. Thank you KD!!!
yes it does but they were trying to shy away from the past and show that this bond is very different from the older bonds. this song is cool i like tomorrow never dies because its different from the earlier ones im not bashing this one its really gud but i think that sherryl crow's version fit the movie
Its obvious this was originally written to be the main title song of the film. During the pre-title sequence, the tune makes a brief appearance on the score. If you listen carefully between 05:20 and 05:43 you can hear it. Why would they put the "end title" tune into the movie 5 mins into it, and the Sheryl Crowe song isn't heard? They did the change at the last minute because someone felt Sheryl Crowe's name as the "main" song would sell more CD's - art went out the window for greed.
@MIMOQ7 i feel the same way. i like daniel craig as bond but i do have nostalgia for the pierce brosnan films (the early ones, that is) these new films are just a rip off of jason bourne and feel tired and unoriginal.
@jude1871 I have listened to this song four times now. This is not only the far superior song that should have been the opening credits song but even more than that....as far as I'm concerned, this is by far one of THE BEST bond songs in the history of the franchise.
watched the film in 2011, film made in what, 2002...end credit titles evoke the feelings and memories of the bond film watched in the 70s (which includes the especially the Connery / Bassey periods made earlier)
Absolutely fantastic score, totally appropriate, great job. Actually want to watch the credits without some ass minimising the screen, turning down the volume and telling you what program is on NEXT!! as if I cant wait 20 seconds for petes sake. let the damn credits finish!
@jude1871 I have listened to this song four times now. This is not only the far superior song that should have been the opening credits song but even more than that....as far as I'm concerned, this is by far one of THE BEST bond songs in the history of the franchise.
Sheryl won out purely due to being commercially more appealing to the producers. Her name would bring some level of interest during marketing. It is a shame because nearly all the musicians involved in the movie knew this was the most fitting song. There was a mini documentary made on how the music was created and selected. Maybe it is in the DVD. It is one of the most bond esque songs ever. I love it.
There's a video here in YouTube where you can see the opening credits with this theme song... im beginning to believe that this WAS the intended intro song, but for whatever reason they changed it at the end... still remember when i saw the movie on theather and this song begun to sound and the credits begun to roll... i was like... WOW...
@Padauy Yes, Have you heard the alternative songs for the Sean Connery movies? Example: Dr. No had Kingston Kalypso to make the opening song, but an unknown band had the song "Jump up", you can hear it in the movie. almost all movies has a alternative song in the movie from a unknown group.
@aaronpaul777 It is. Movies are filmed at 24 frames/sec, whereas the PAL system run at 25. Therefore the playback is sped-up slightly, around 3-4%, and the audio consequently has a higher pitch. If you check out my other videos you'll see I slowed some down to 24FPS in order to get the original playback speed.
@mrmaestrom I believe this is a completely different version than the original track that was included in TND OST. Just listen to this one and the track on the soundtrack. You'll notice several differences in the way the song is performed, not only in the tempo of it, but also in the way the instruments play, the way Lang sings this one compared to the track on the OST. Unless I'm crazy or sth I believe I have some right.. :/
@mrmaestrom Thanks for being so wise about this. I myself have wondered this for some time: What's the problem about running films in their original speed? I also wonder whether cinemas in Europe show films with increased speed or not: I think I remember Casino Royale being showed in the 'original' speed. A funny thing is that the song 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' (the European DVD) has the same pitch as the original! :D
The track was intended to be the title, because you can hear those opening few bars throughout the film score for the rest of the movie. Funnily enough, the new bond films they wanted to not use the bond theme and make an alternative sound... but this song's probably got the best alternative sound that's the closest to the bond theme song.
I watched 100 best bond henchmen and Stamper got number one, at first i was confused and surprised but after sum thought and after they gave their reasons it became clear HE IS! lol i mean a blonde haired blue eyed german muscle man i mean it doesnt get better!
@JordanSayz I disagree Jordan, they're both Bond-esque songs; this has the benefit of David Arnold's riffs, but the better version won for that movie.
Notice how at 0:27, the lyrics say "the news, is an eye, and in, control". There is a big hidden truth in those words. Actually, the whole movie is chalk full of hidden truths, and evil.
@jp3813 - You're correct. Sorry about my error. However, i agree with another person who responded to my original comment that there is not great substantual difference between the two sentences.
I enjoy listening to both the song by Sheryl Crow and by KD Lang. I think they made the right decision to use Crow's song at the beginning, as it is more modern. Lang's song goes better with the credits. In the end, its all good.
Agreed TND is very underrated. Price is one of the best bond villains ever, Yeoh one of the best girls. This song was going to be the intro song before Cheryl Crowe decided last minute to do a song. This is the better song tho.
Tomorrow Never Dies was great and underrated Bond movie. Pierce Brosnan shines as always. Michelle Yeoh was great - maybe the strongest Bond Girl. She could kick Bond's ass too. Jonathan Pryce was great villain. Teri Hatcher should have had much more screen time.
I also love K.D.Lang's theme song - really unique performance
It certainly has an old school sound and feel. But as a main titles song, I don't think it would have worked for a 1997 film. 1967, yes. But not 1997. Putting it at the end fits perfectly, though.
Oh Come on I say that the horns on this song are great and she gives a great performance but Sheryl's performance is over the top and much more bang on the songs production value.
This song fits better as a james bond theme. not to say Sheryl Crow's song isn't good, just that this song is better suited for bond. however, I'm just stating my opinion.
are you kidding me?? no contest. this version should've been used on the opening.

I feel that the song playing with the end credits of any film is important. I think that since it is the last part of the film that the audience hears as the crowd leaves the theatre, it should reflect on the film as a whole and recapture the emotion of the events that just took place throughout the film.... I think this song did just that.
