The military has standards and the fact that there are people trying to appeal it, and the senior leadership actually allowing to appeal it and changing to accommodate is bullshit. I don't know if you know, but the Supreme Court actually picks and chooses what issues to judge on. They only pick a handful a year out of thousands. The military has standards and the fact that there are people trying to appeal it, and the senior leadership actually allowing to appeal it and changing to accommodate is bullshit. I don't like where the military is going with allowing gays in the military, soldiers allowed to wear full beards due to religious beliefs. This is not the army i joined.

At the same time, sexuality shouldn't be an issue. I believe that gays can serve in military and it has been done for thousands of years in history. He was *protesting* while in the military. That is a big no-no, in which military have to remain apolitical. There is very good reason for this rule of thumb. He should NOT be allowed in due to this.

@Scyenyde Well, I think the reason the judge decided this case is so it will garner attention and move up the ranks to the Supreme Court. I don't know if you know, but the Supreme Court actually picks and chooses what issues to judge on. They only pick a handful a year out of thousands. @Scyenyde His apparent dedication you mean. He is a pretty good liar. Says he has a degree in Arabic from West Point . No such thing as a degree in Arabic.from West Point. Maybe a minor. And what is with an openly gay military officer being an asset as an interpreter in Arabic.Any Arab Muslim he came into contact with would hold his in the utmost disdain.

@defundthewar , Butched up? The Dan Choi in this video is the same Dan Choi I've seen throughout his efforts to remain enlisted as an openly gay man. Clearly, this is a man who finishes what he starts.

@rg0057 Then you haven't been paying attention. He has worked on his voice and mannerisms since the time he began his crusade to serve openly for big oil and other war profiteers. There's no question he has read of himself words like "drama queen" and worse. Getting rid of DADT is the right thing to do, and it will likely happen despite Obama, who certainly has nothing but contempt for gay people. But the earlier version of Dan wasn't exactly the best poster boy.

@defundthewar How is saying that someone pretending to be butch (which I disagree he's done) is good for the cause not homophobic? I don't believe Obama has "nothing but contempt" for gays. His DADT strategy is a bust, but the issue is gay people and our causes are so minor when it comes to votes that politicians routinely make us a low priority. That's not homophobia, that's disrespect. And it's harsh reality. Which I think is why publicly reminding them of their promises is a good thing.

@mattrett Dan's audio-visual lent credence to the homophobic notion that gay men can be distractions. It's not a bad thing that he did some butch tweaking because the whole "unit cohesion" issue the homophobes always trot out isn't completely without merit. Dan's Castroesque speech and touchy feely ways didn't help. Proof Obama's contemptuous? When some got verklempt about Elena Kagan's lesbianism, Obama didn't say it didn't matter she was a lesbian; instead, he made a big fuss denying it.

@defundthewar That was odd re Kagan, but it's my understanding this was her express wish. She wants it known or believed that she'd not a lesbian. I had thought it was widely known she was, but was told those stories were apocryphal. I'm not sure what to believe, but I'll tell you what—no openly gay person would be accepted on the Court by the Senate at this point in history, and that's disgusting.

@mattrett It is widely (around D.C.) known that she is, a difficult secret to keep. And it raises the non-PC question, which has absolutely nothing to do with her being unmarried: is it possible to look, sound, dress, even walk like a stereotypical lesbian, yet be straight? Not PC, but the answer is negative. She is a lesbian. When the truth comes out- former girlfriends, witnesses, etc... where is her credibility? But to me, this says a lot more about Obama than about Kagan or the Senate.
