i am also from new york and i spent two months in rikers waiting to see a judge and finally i got to see him he dismissed my charge as it was my only time arrested, as a misdeaminior ,my nightmare began when the judge told me i had an immigration hold i got transferred from ny to p.a in p.a to two prisons like an animal chained up and stuff finally they sent me to lousiana n from there to another 2 prisons and finally oakdale..we have no rights we get no attention,,ur lucky wish me luck man

i was in the same immigration center man and im still fighting my case i await my next court date feb 10 2010 i grew up here since im two years old and my only crime was getting a fake id because i lost my wallet and i decided to get a fake id to get into a club which got me into all that mess never thought i would go through that..but i learned hopefully i can get in touch with you im inspired by your story and gives me alot of hope for my upcoming court date!god bless

very well done. important story told with intimacy and honesty. immigrants often pay a price for minor crimes that's completely out of proportion. criminal offenses should be punished through the justice system, not through the immigrant detention system.

Government should not be allowed to "venue shop" in immigration matters. You should not have been in Oakdale in the first place. But ofcourse the government loves taking people to Louisiana-based 5th U.S. Circuit precident where they have complete controll over the judges.
