Yeah that dog is a pure bred. We have one just like him who also "barks" just like that. It only happens when he's spooked though. Awesme looking dog on here though, very nice!

Basenji can only emit one bark spud at a time and that's why they don't actually bark, it a learned behavior. Most just yodel. Got that from Dogs 101, great show :)

my basenji barks like crazy! When I first got him he didnt, I also have a border collie who barks ALOT! about 2months the basenji learned to bark.

My basenji just let's out one bark at a time, the bark from hell. He only does it about once a month when super exicited. Otherwise he is completely silent, doesn't even yodel.

I have a female black and white Basenji/Fox terrier mix. She is rather quiet. Her occasional barks are really deep. They sound as if they were coming from a big dog-very deep. She is very smart, athletic, fast, playful, and loyal. She doesn't like small children.

My first and second basenjis only barked a few times, and it scared them both when it came out of their mouths! My current basenji barks much the same as yours, but he also yodels a lot.

My basenji barked as well...along with making a lot of other noises I have never heard come out of a dog other than a basenji. These dogs do "bark" but their "bark" comes from a different place than other dogs seeing that a basenji's "voice box" is constructed differently than other dogs.

Yeah mine barks too as well as a whole arrangement of other bizzarre noises. I think they CAN bark but they dont often. Mine screams alot....its deafening lol

haha mine never bark! That's crazy! They'll let out one woof every once and a great while when they're REALLY excited. I've never seen them let out a series of barks like this though. Too cute :)

It's bullshit that Basenji's can't bark, they can! They just chose not to do it much. But since they have a less developed throat (larynx?) than other domestic dog's their bark is comparatively quiet! This one was more of a the "huffs" my old dog did... I had one of these! Loveley, but semi wild... Special breed!

I have a Basenji that can bark as well. She only barks when she's alerting me of a knock on the door, someone outside, etc. Other than that, I guess she just chooses not to bark... We must have found the extra special ones! LOL
