Morrissey brought this song on a tour and played it before he came out. He has said of it "astonishingly good". As for 10K Maniacs, he did not like that version and then wrote "Have a go Merchant"....

@FoxIslandman You're right. Intensely dislike. I find Natalie Merchant to be a very affected singer and an undistinguished writer. She wears her 'sensitivity' like a medal and it's cloying. If you ever listen to Sandy Denny, you'll hear she ripped off her entire vocal style from her.
