the only reason Sonic and tails was in the air because sonic thought Dr Robotnik had given up. They were about to go home until they saw badniks, and they saw wing fortress and more badniks. Sonic and to fight again. And that's the legend.

Dr Robotnik was also busy building wing fortress. He knew that it wouldn't be completed because Sonic was waiting for him on the third floor in Metropolis zone. After beating him Robotnik left and went back to taht wing fortress. Sonic and Tails took it to the sky, It took Dr Robotnik a while because he had to make a couple repairs then turn on the propellers and rockets. It takes long for wing fortress to be flying in the air.

If some of you don't know the story behind this part of the game, how the death egg was built then listen. Somewhere on West island there was a hidden part of the island. While Sonic was busy so was Dr Robotnik. There in that hidden part of West island was the death being built. at some piont when sonic was in slippin and sliden in Oil Ocean zone, by then the deafth egg was neary complete. Almost complete! Then after building silversonic and putting him inside the death egg, he launched it.
