Introduced to this song in 2nd Grade Glee Club by the Good Sisters of St. Joseph of Chestnut Hill in 1959. They were women of that generation who had, as young girls, been familiar with the popular tunes of the day, before entering the convent. Their tastes seemed to freeze the day they took their vows.
This is such a sweet song...love it. Did you know that this song is used in a Poirot mystery? Look up here on Youtube "Five Little Pigs 7/10" and you'll hear this song used in a beautiful memory sequence at 4:57.
i had adear friend who has sinced died named alyce, her spelling differs from the song title, but just the same she claimed to dispise this song...i wonder how she would feel to know that when i hear it, it brings back all the wonderful memories of my alyce....life is funny that way. edith day is wonderful.nice clean sound. thanks for the post.
I've always loved this song, but....your mysterious (to me) comment about Alyce...could you enlighten me? This is just the kind of "tidbit" I love. Thanks, as always, for your wonderful postings!
Thanks...I guess any gal named Alice back then would get a little tired of the "Alice" jokes....I was always "Smelly Kelly." Alice Blue Gown doesn't sound too bad!!! Cheers!

On HBO's Boardwalk Empire there's a scene where Edith Day performs Alice Blue Gown at Nucky Thompson's birthday party.

I'm a huge Edith Day fan. Always good to hear this or any of her records.

It's hard to find music her and this is the only disc I own by her. I will be posting the flip side.

Music has that amazing quality about it, the power to bring back fond memories. It's too bad Alyce didn't like this song.

bill3murr was talking about a friend of his by the name of Alyce who disliked this song. I guess she used to get teased a lot as a kid.
