Here's a quick lesson: Debt reduction = taking money out of the economy = lower wages = even lower demand = even higher unemployment. Debt is currently dirt cheap right now, it is not costly for the government to pick up the slack and pump money into the economy to make up for lost economic growth. It's not a handout, it's econ 101.
