  • American "Fräulein-Wonder" brought to Germany! Together with coca-cola, the dollar and democracy!

  • Hence the censorship on this song. Coca-cola was replaced with limonada, and yanqui dollar replace with dance a rumba.

  • WELL its sounds like a swedish song written in 56 calld naturbarn or nature child by powel ramel so its a copy of povel ramel check out the swedish version

  • @movieslovie Is there no punctuation in Swedish?

  • i loooove this song

  • I remember thoes old good day of my youth in 1942 ! :)

  • Banned in Boston in 1940s

  • Joel what have you said.

  • ha ha,im going 2 use this classic 4 my hiphop single, both ma and daughter prostituting 4 da yankee dolla

  • yeah man shout out 2 trinidad

  • great song

  • Great song, but you are incorrect about the date. According to Wikipedia, it was recorded in 1945.

  • @Catsklgd You are correct.. my Mama sang this around the house.. and it came out during the war... :)

  • LOVELOVELOVELOVE this song...coming from a 12 year old...!

  • @RockyHorrorMagenta1 why does it matter how old you are? good music appeals to everyone, even if its ancient. that's why its GOOD music.

  • So what's the song about?

  • @Fernsndo94 The song is supposedly about the local girls hooking up with the American GIs from the bases in Trinidad.

  • Mafia 2 brought me here haha :)

  • @xGoldenAKx Mee Too HAHA))

  • @xXLittleMissJunkieXx please research the song, I don't mean any offence but you grandfather most certainly did not, he may have edited it but he did not write it

  • @Apsdonna did i say he wrote it???

  • rum and nuka cola!

  • when times were still good!

  • It was released in this version as many other on some Dutch compile CD's.. Me love it.. Issa Fact man!

  • This song was written by a Trinidadian calypso singer named Rupert W. Grant, who performed as Lord Invader. This version was plagiarized by comedian Morey Amsterdam, who ultimately lost a lawsuit over his plagiarism, but was allowed to retain credit for this version.

  • My great grandfather, Paul Baron, wrote this song!!!

  • @xXLittleMissJunkieXx so cool i love this

  • @xXLittleMissJunkieXx So what's it about? I know there seems to be confusion...

  • @LMFAOASAP its pretty much about mother and daughter prostitutes that were working for the war vets when they came back.

  • @xXLittleMissJunkieXx I figured as much, It's so nice to hear the real story behind a song, as opposed to just guessing.

  • @xXLittleMissJunkieXx of course it is - couldn't possibly be about impoverished islanders hawking island wares and goods and performing native dances and songs for the tourist trade, eh?

  • @threenorns3 did i say he wrote it??

  • @xXLittleMissJunkieXx He may be proud his granddaughter called herself "little miss junkie"

  • @eewoktypoq It's just a youtube name lol

  • @xXLittleMissJunkieXx he most certainly did not unless his name was Lord Invader.

  • @xXLittleMissJunkieXx you should be very proud !

  • @xXLittleMissJunkieXx Great song.

  • @xXLittleMissJunkieXx really ?

  • @xXLittleMissJunkieXx You mean your grandfather lifted it from Lord Invader!?!

  • Absolute Magic.

  • Oh Brother, this beats all. Morey Amsterdam went down to Trinidad, and heard a street performer singing something like this. He came back to America, and wrote more lyrics. He gave it to The Andrews Sisters to record. At first they didn't want to. But then they did, and it became the 2nd biggest seller of the 40's decade!

  • absolute spitzenklasse, das orginal

  • uuh, I'm a two year old toddler and I listen to this music, ain't I cool.

  • This actually sounds close to the version playing on the jukebox in Bon Voyage Charlie Brown and Don't Come back! when Snoopy went to the bar.

  • Does anyone know that this song was wrote by Morey Amsterdam the same one that was on the Dick Vandike Show?

  • Do you really think they are the Andrews? I bet they are the Fontane Sisters

  • Dear Santa,

This christmas I would like a time machine ...

  • mafia 2

  • This is twenty years after it was a hit. Of course they're gonna change the tempo / style / etc

Doesn't change the fact that Mafia 2 was bangin'

  • Too slow. Drags. The song was played a bit faster than this rendition has it.

  • I have the album of their re-recordings of their classics, this one included, on vinyl

I think it was recorded at around 62

  • Dedicated to someone who got sick drinking too much Rum and Coke, and to that person you know who you are. XD

  • @Msgummybear202 patty (i think its her) is still alive maybe you can get in contact and see i doubt it tho

  • Wow. It's really weird that these girls sang this song, considering what it's about...

  • What I love is that I didn't have to play Mafia II to appreciate the Andrews Sisters.

  • burps ! give one more rum & coke please !

  • Hmmm yet another song from Trinidad and Tobago they stole....Who let the dogs out and Jean and Dina are all songs from Trinidad....Lord Invader sang the original version....this song is so bland lacks the true flavour that my country has made famous

  • i knew this song from mafia II game ,it's really amazing song

  • i heart it in Mafia 2 game, and this is amazing song!! I love The Andrew Sisters

  • A more limited vocal range and performance than the earlier version. Still ok version

  • I love this song.

  • This is a slower version than the one I have on their greatest hits CD, still a great version though :)

  • FUCKING SLOW!

  • I've been searching for this song like crazy for the last 6 years. The first time I heard it I was 13 and it was on a tour of the Bacardi factory in Puerto Rico. They only played the song for a couple of seconds but it stuck with me.

  • Love it..maybe I am young but I love The Andrews Sisters.

  • Smoke weed, listen to swing!

  • @yokichi40

Nah, no weed. A sip o' rum will do.

  • @Briselance what you wish for:)

  • @yokichi40

Oops. I wanted to write "no need", and not "no weed".

Ah well ... cheers ! Enjoy this glass of real, imaginary rum with coca-cola. ^^

  • ... I first discovered alcohol in 1944 on a shore leave from a freighter in Baytown, TX. In the course of building my resume' I came home from Europe, either England or Belgium and New York looked more beautiful than any place on the planet. Several of us got all slicked up in fancy uniforms and began hitting the bars around Times Square. The latest song on the jukeboxes was this one and I was captivated with it ...shortly afterward I discovered girls ...

  • @mrbill78363 One heck of a night huh.

  • @mrbill78363 Hahahaha...That's an awesome story! I wish I could have grown up during this period. The music was so much better than todays.

  • Pensate che patricia andrews adesso ha 93 anni!!!

  • Mafia 2 oulalaa

  • i love the Andrews Sisters

  • ich möchte nur wissen wo glenn miller abgesürzt ist

  • this is a nice and catchy song. i love it while driving in mafia 2.

  • @TNN415 me too that game is soooo fun

  • @ohawsomeman Likewise mate, likewise (Re: Mafia2)

  • Mafia 2 brought me here

  • This song is so great for it's irony.... the andrews sisters were innocent war supporters who were singing about oppression and prostitution during the U.S. occupation of Trinidad. This song was stolen from a Trinidadian folk song of which Lord Invader used in the 'original' Rum and Coca Cola.

  • a HORRIBLE COVER!

    admittedly, they did the best cover, if your tastes run to the 1950s Your Hit Parade, which in itself was an insidious production of cover (read STOLEN) records;

    listen to Lord Invader and WAKE UP;

  • Great version. I´m impressed!

  • this was a rip off from lord invader

  • nostalgicamente delicioso!

  • in chorus i have to sing a song by the Andrew sisters

  • Thumbs up if Kari Hilsons video got you here!

  • Two pepsi drinkers didn't like the video.

  • @zamusicza got somethin' against THE Pepsi beverage ?!?! i loove pepsi & i also adore the Andrews Sisters as well as many others such as louis Jordan, Django Reinhardt, Una Mae Carlisle and so on... so please don't judge with stupidity and put ye energy to something useful..... Don't get offended though, nothing personal ;)

  • @ierbado Have you got something against the humor sense? It was just a shot at anyone who would click dislike for this video. As for the gals...the Andrews sisters couldn't have a bigger fan then me...My ipod is loaded with practically everything they have recorded...so come on babe lighten up or I'm gonna have to beat you 8 to the bar.

  • @zamusicza

    Well all right ;)

  • @Trinigrade01 sorry, some idiot hacked my youtube account! the message didn't write me!

  • just heared this song on the radio and had to look it up. I LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • MAFIA 2

  • STOLEN SONG....its a trinidad song

  • @Trinigrade01 They didn't steal it did they. Idiot

  • @PrimalStones: They didn't steal the song, but the 'writer' did. He went to Trinidad and stole the lyrics from Trinidad performer "Lord Invader" after seeing him perform...The guy who stole the song claimed that he wrote it...Look up Lord Invader Rum & Coca Cola legal case in google

  • @PrimalStones: They didn't steal the song, but the 'writer' did. He went to Trinidad and stole the lyrics from Trinidad performer "Lord Invader" after seeing him perform...The guy who stole the song claimed that he wrote it, and Lord Invader died penniless..Look up Lord Invader Rum & Coca Cola legal case in google

  • @drseanelius Yes i have heard that version

  • @drseanelius To be fair, he didn't know the song wasn't public domain, and he did do some rewrites.

  • @PrimalStones are you a asshole..who you calling an idiot ...you no nothing of calypso music so hush your mother`s cunt ..

  • Comment removed

  • @Nedo80 Cover ....lol...more like the whole song word for word........if you don`t no calypso what your talking about shut your fukin cunt ..

  • @Trinigrade01

    Woi Woi!!!!

  • Sunny D & Rum, yum yum.

  • I like this alot. Normally I don't like this type of music...

  • I like this song, but I like their other ones much better. Like Civilization, or Hit The Road.

  • o...the yankee dollar had ALOT of value!!

  • the original was done by the Lord Invader. There was an American Base in Trinidad during the war and the soldiers helped to boost the prostitution industry on the island. The soldiers were very fond of the mixed drink Rum & Coca Cola. The Mighty Sparrow has a song about how the prostitutes became desperate when the soldiers left the island after the war.

  • @Dexter130394 why does everything have to have a dubstep remix haha, just enjoy the original, i love dubstep, but some tracks are just left well alone haha

  • Does "working for the Yankee dollar" mean they're putting out?

  • @Baccalaureus79 yes. prostitution, but overall trying to lift the spirits of "American" life

  • @Baccalaureus79 This was a popular Calypso (not sure who wrote it) about prostitution basically.

    "Help soldier celebrate his leave"

"Make tropic Love, next day sit in hot sun and cool off"

  • @yodadizzy it was originally done by lord invader .. a true old calypsonian and most of all a true trinidadian..

  • I h ad always heard the song was suggestive for those days. After listening to the Lord Invader version, I can see why.

  • Love it !!

Moreover my name's Romane and it really looks like they're sayin' "Drinkin' Romane Coca-Cola"

    Love'em

  • I'm not sure, but they sound me much as THE FONTANE SISTERS

  • I love rum and cocacola !

    !

  • The original singer and composer of this song is Lord Invader. He is a Trinidadian calypsonian. The Andrews sisters stole his song and had it copywritten. After suing he was only awarded a pitance compared to what they made off of his song. I doubt they even know where Point Cumana is.

  • @safI1204 yeah the music business is a bitch isn't it?

  • @safI1204 I've read a lot about that case. Between the Andrews Sisters and this song was a show man named Morey Amsterdam and a singer named Jeri Sullavan. They rewrote the song before selling it to the Andrews sisters who didn'tknow it was ripped off. Supposedly, Sullivan knew the song's origin and threatened to blackmail Amsterdam for a cut of the profits. How the Andrews Sisters were involved in the trial I don't know, but they didn't initially steal the song.

  • @safI1204 haha for realz i from tt and i dont know where pt cumana is

  • Comment removed

  • How good is this, still sounds so good and very happy in 2010, love it !! xx

  • The original recording of ''Rum And Coca Cola'' hit no. 1 on the charts the second week of February 1945 and stayed in the no. 1 position for seven consecutive weeks -- being bumped out only after Doris Day singing for Les Brown had some improvement in her dreams.

  • great i love theù!

  • Randy Wood made a nice fortune off all the Andrews recordings he did for Dot of hits in their original arrangements, hits in new arrangements, themed albums and new songs. He sense there was still a big audience out there for the Andrews and was he right!

  • Smokin hot!

  • WOW! I am impressed! As an aficionado of both this song & the wonderful Andrews Sisters {since mid 1965, when @ 2yrs of age I received my first A.S. hand-me-down, an old electric victrola & this 78rpm copy of their 1944 edition of this song}. I have a few other cuts of their hi-fi/Stereo remakes that I grew up with but never this song. They were quite prolific & released new material right thru the 60s even though they hadn't really had a big hit since right after "THE" war. Thanks!
