As a die hard blues fan, I love this video. I just stumbled onto this today, I laughed, I cried, I got goosebumps. I agree, Ken Wilson was blues hockey. He was there for the golden era of Blues hockey from early 90's to 2000. Thanks for the post
It has been almost four years since I have uploaded this video. I just want to say thank you to all the die hard Blues fans who have watched and shared this video. This is the epitome of Blues hockey as far as I am concerned. Wilson's commentary will always have a place in my heart as well as as anyone who was a Blues fan from 1984-2004. Please share this with anyone you know who is a dedicated Blues fan. It is a piece of blues history that cannot be forgotten.
theres no passion from the announcers now. like darren pang just says his stupid shit and it kinda just takes you out of the game. i think hockey in st louis would be so much more popular if they brought back kenny wilson and got rid of panger and put kelly at color comm and wilson at play-by-play
The feeling of having John Kelly replace Dan is kinda like how Lois Lane felt having sex with a normal guy after Superman. Not bad, but...damn, no where near.
The way Kenny called a game was fantastic. He could sense when goals would be scored and you could sense it in his tone and inflection. I live in KC and I could get the KMOX signal late at night during the winter and would listen to the third period.
dude great video i was hoping to see the macinnis goal from center against detroit in the playoffs but overall a great video about a great voice in this game. We Blues fans dearly miss Ken Wilson.
I lived in West Virginia till 1992 and in the winter I could pick up KMOX at night. I would listen to the blues games and loved this guys play by play, he was awesome. I learned alot of hockey from him. My little alarm clock radio would vibrate when the Blues would score and that horn would go off. Thanks for this video.
I grew up in St. Louis and fell in love hockey because of this guy. He was so good you could close your eyes and feel like you were watching the game while listening to him on the radio. It's so awesome to see that other hockey fans outside of St. Louis got to experience this. The alarm clock vibrating to the Blues scoring put a huge smile on my face. Freaking awesome man!
Ken Wilson best announcer hands down! I think some of his competition didn't like him but he was the best...always did his homework the night before the game too.
I live in Minnesota and I never missed a Blues game on KMOX radio when Ken Wilson was on. After a North Stars game one time I talked to Ken and told him how he was the best, (after Al Shaver, of course)
Thank you for creating and posting this tribute video. I have to admit that within a week of seeing this I went to my first Blues game in several years. Thanks as well to Ken Wilson for the great calls and all the memories
I remember that fight, I was at that game, I wanna say 93 or 94. Ive been going to blues games since the late 60's and more than anything I wanted to see a goalie fight. I was so thrilled!
LOTS of great memories of Ken but for my money I like John Kelly. Not because he's Dan's son....I just think he's AS good at play by play but not quite as sickening as Ken was. People complain that he was let go but the truth is he wanted to do baseball more than hockey so the decision was as much his as it was the Blues....
I can think of one of his best calls that was not on here...these are all goals...what about the fights and saves? I can remember Fuhr stopping a two on zero going gloveside and Ken "Hiiiiiiigghwwaayyyyyy Robbbery"......so awesome!
Ken Wilson is God. They need to fire John Kelly and bring back Ken. Ken and Panger together would be pure genius. Can anyone else picture the awesomeness that would result from an "OH BABY!!!" followed by a "HOLY JUMPIN!!!" ??? It would probably cure cancer...
Ken Wilson is my ALL TIME Favorite anouncer for the Blues. Growing up in the 90s, listening to his OH BABY!s on great goals, saves, Fights, hits are all classic memories. I just wish He was announcing when the Blues made that 2nd half comeback to clinch the playoffs in 2008-2009. I will NEVER forget Ken Wilson and his amazing calls.
Ehhhhh Hull and shanahan didnt wanna leave till this guy named Mike Keenen traded shanahan for pronger, and let the best duo in history evaporate when he didnt resign gretzky to feed hull with good passes,
I agree, John Kelly sucks. I miss Ken. Can you imagine Ken Wilson and Darren Pang? That would be great. Also, Bernie Federko is horrible... How many more times must we re-live his career?
My ace king ... ( 4 months ago by BoSoxnation1972)
My ace king actually flopped broadway and I came in 3rd at Caesars Palace in Louisville Kentucky. Only Min the Master and Vinny Vihn beat me. I pretty much folded my way to 3rd after taking a huge pot with big slick.
This really made me think about when i was young and in bed listening to ken wilson announce the games on the radio. It brings back some great blues memories laying there not wanting to cheer because my parents would be sleeping.
I started watching the Blues when there was a game or two in one week. It was Ken Wilson that animated the action over the radio that really got me into hockey. I will never forget his enthusiastic color that really made me a Blues Fan!!!
I started watching Blues hockey around 90-91 and have love the team since my first game. I'm not ashamed to say I shed a tear when Ken was let go from the Blues. Nothing against John Kelly but he will NEVER replace Ken as the voice of the Blues, I would sign any petition if ever there was one to bring him back to the Blues. JD if you ever read this bring back Ken Wilson, he truly bled blue for over 2 decade.
I first began watching the blues in '95 when I was 7 years old, and this is the voice I heard every game. I love this voice so much, because I love the Blues so much. To me, this will forever be the voice of the Blues. I wish Ken would come back.
man, I'm from canada and we have hockey night in Canada with bob cole who is a legend, but this guys voice is the best in any sport, bring him back Blues management, who cares how old he is, or what happened in the past
To be honest with you, I have no problem with John Kelly as a broadcaster. Unfortunately for him, he replaced the best ever in my opinion. Much like it probably was for the generation before me when Dan Kelly passed away and Wilson succeeded him. I've been a Blues fan since the 90-91 season and I was devastated to learn the Blues let Wilson go. What a terrible decision for the team to make. Blues management take note; bring Ken Wilson back and we'll forget about the 4 years of mistakes.
I can't believe it!! You actually have a clip from a game that I was hoping was on Youtube somewhere. The Al McInnis bit in 5:40-6:17. I remember watching that game live like it was yesterday. Thanks for the post and go Blues!!
After Brett Hull's 50th goal in 50 games in Detroit, the Red Wings fans' applause now makes me think of the way New Yorkers cheer LeBron James. You know their stategery to butter up LeBron for being a future Knick? The Blues never should have allowed Brett Hull to become a Star and a Wing.
that's not really fair, Hull became a wing almost 10 years after his 50 goals in 50 games. Once he left to Dallas there was no controlling where he went.
But i agree that they shouldn't have let him go in the first place. He was the face of the franchise for an entire decade.
Someone needs to call Dave Checketts and let him know that Ken Wilson made the Blues television games the best. Notice we started going down hill when Wilson left? Maybe the Blues just need to hear OHHHH BABY one more time.
In Blues nation, saying who is better between Ken Wilson and the Kelly family members is as sensitive a subject as deciding between pro life and pro choice in general society. Between John Kelly and Ken Wilson, its Ken all the way for me. Dan Kelly was great, but he was before my time.
I totally agree, growing up in the 90s in stlouis, wilson was the man for me. From what i understand Dan Kelly was also a GREAT sportscaster, but unfortunately i never had the chance to listen to him, I being too young.
