i very much doubt that "remind me to smile" would have been a good single choice, let alone no.1 (even though i like the telekon album very much as a whole).
PROUD to be a fucking NUMANOID along with being a MURHREAK!!!...Gary Numan BLEW my MIND out into the STRATOSPHERE with two CRUCIAL albums: "Telekon" and "Pleasure Principle" ( I bought "Telekon" first )... The MASTER was WAY AHEAD of his time MUSICALLY, no question!!!...
I like how a lot of the 80s New Wave people dressed like they were cadets in some galactic military squad or something. Pleather jumpsuits for everybody!
you know... I never really heard anything else by him that I knew of..I was only a kid then but still. I actually like his music lol and this song is right the frig on!
@yourown99 Agreed, yourown99. Many people consider Numan to be the father of 80s electro, even though his early music doesn't resemble that music in the slightest. His influence on other artists may be more important than his music itself.
@headlock56 My favourite of his as well. Hypnotic, erotic and a great climax. Thanks Gary....
So you say. According to that it must have been the GHB, but you're thanking him, so it wasn't rape.
Anyway, I get a headache when I listen to Gary, do you have any idea why that is? I'm not trying to be condescending, despite the sex joke about Numan for the sake of my "hilarity"; rather, I am asking you because I am the opposite of hypnotized by it. Am I doing something wrong?
Brilliant anthem for the 80's. I remember this when it first came out in may/june of 1980. Shame it never gets an airplay these days on radio 2 or other stations.
This has always been my most liked Numan track too. A VERY close second is music for chameleons followed by are friends electric. All these send me into a slot in my life that I like to re-visit from time to time. Still amazing today as it was back then....
Numan was so beyond his time,he should have arrived mid 80's,he would have been more appreciated. As for me i totally enjoy his music till the end.I have all his albums on vinyl, and cherish them,as do my children.
Gary Numan what can i say the best music synth man around in the 80s this is a fantastic sound lyrics are brilliant then after this song came I Die You Die and things gor even better fantastic memories for me in the 80s well done mr numan .top man
I like the innocence and vulnerability of his early music videos and songs….I’m a big fan…but I can’t get into some of his more recent work…his recent stuff lacks the uniqueness and soul and spirit of his early work….I still love him though..
years of cold , solid, transparent existence , but as glass we do not cry.. great video , i sincerely feel the energy, and ive loved this song, thru countlss batteries. 4 myself that is..
I love videos from the 80s (and late 70s) - no Photoshop and fake effects, no brainless chicks dancing with bling bling stuff, just pure inspiration, originality and new ideas ^_^ And I love the authentic feel of it!
After 30 years, this is still my favorite Numan song. It has everything--near-hysteria, a healthy dose of paranoia, fire-breathing tempo, weird lyrics, and lots and lots and lots of synths. It just never gets old. "And now dreams are real, and dreams are all we need."
@srlucado You got it right dude. Some of the crap I see below just doesn't cut it. Numan's synth is and always will be the original. I'm a 68 vintage and when I hit my teens............well, what can I say??????????????????????
@dwtime Yes, I remember hearing it live in Chicago at the Park West in 1982--the I, Assassin tour (really dating myself there); Gary played it as an encore, and it made my whole evening!
@srlucado Totally agree. A very under-rated Numan classic. This track is so much better than the 'classic' Numan tracks (Are Friends.. and Cars) IMHO.
Actually, "I Die-You Die" was included on the US release of TELEKON, not "We Are Glass." It was the last track on side-1, replacing "Sleep by Windows" which was released as a B-side to the "I Die-You Die" single.
Unfortunately the single failed to chart, though the TELEKON album sold very well, and got lots of airplay on college radio stations. "Cars" was numan's only top-10 single in the US, and today he's still (falsely) referred to as a "one-hit-wonder" in the US.
@jasonsbrain2 Well he was a one hit wonder in the US, but not in the UK. You can be very popular in one country as a music artist and not as much in another.
Saw the Pleasure Principal and Telekon tours in the midwest. Never seen ANYTHING like it since. Even by todays standards Numans songs are genius. His music changed me forever.

Assi, Yeah he was certainly influenced by Foxx, but what I am saying is that he marketed it better than faxx and possibly quicker, IE...you saw Numan on top of the pops in the 70's most weeks and Foxx about twice ever as a solo artist?...both great though, a great era. Thanks for the reply
Of course he marketed himself better, he was and is better, if John Foxx's music was so good where is he? Although it was Numans fans that marketed him, the press, radio and TV hated him and slated him at every opportunity. That said Underpass was a great record.
