I've made several paintings projecting the image on the paper or canvas I was working on and dimming a light to make the "layer" more or less visible.
Then I felt in love with Painter & Photoshop on the computer and forgot about painting in the real world vs virtual.
Actually, I've done entire sets for multiple scenes for theatrical projects using air brush. ^_^ I'm well versed in both traditional & digital art forms from painting, to drawing to sculpting, to animation, in both the real world & on PC. I've probably got about $10,000 worth of programs on my crappy laptop. The only thing I do digitally that I can't for real is music. ^_-
Thank you. The secret? Simply slap your the photo you're painting into your piece as the base layer then simply trace over it with the brushes. Then when you're done delete the photo from the painting & tada, a masterpiece! I always see people opening their reference photo off to the side of their piece, which is good & all, & I'm surely good enough to do the same but this way is much easier & there's no chance to get any proportions wrong.
Yeah I know! 1st time I did any art piece too well. Go to the link in the description to see my revised version which has a much more "painted" look to it. I like my revised version much better. much more artsy than the video.
Thanks a lot. Yeah in fact believe it or not this is the first time I ever did anything too good. I showed the finished piece to my ex-wife (the model in the photo) & she was like "Wow...but I like it when it was 1/2 finished better." I meant to do the edges of the dress, & the bag in the same messy brushy fashion I did the seat thingy next to her. I just got into one of those OCD moments though & it came out all photo-realistic. In the end I undid a lot & posted 2 versions on my deviantart.
