  • thanks, now i know the correct term for this type of problem, for some reason, my teacher calls it"RAINBOW", maybe cuz shes indonesian, if its called "RAINBOW" then why dont i see 7 different colors

  • but what if its like 4(4x - 10) ??

  • @andyoblah1

    4(4x-10)

    4*4x - 4*10

    =16x-40

  • 3(x-6) = 3x-18

  • how bout if its like 3(x-6)

  • thanks for saving me on my exam ! :)

  • i have learned this, but i see no use for know this, so my brain trashed it after awhile. The recap u did was good, but i still am clueless what im suppose to use this for............ not seeing a practical use. Any one want to enlighten me if there is a way?

  • Imagine if learning to drive you didn't bother to learn how to use the clutch. You would have no choice but to drive an automatic for the rest of your life. If you can't take a problem and convert it in and out of numbers, you will always have to use simple guesswork.

  • FOIL method...

  • UMM THANK YOU MAN YOU HELPED ME ALOT

  • Wow. I love you guys! Seriously you make life easier.. You make math easier! Thank you so much (=

  • Ahh, ya got me with the negative three! lol it's been a while since I did any real algebra. Good job.

  • When you asked, what number is in front, I thought "-1"

    2 - 3 = -1. Why is this wrong?

  • -3(x+5) is in a way a single term. 2-3x does not equal -1x. 2- 3(x) does not equal -1x. The multiplication must be done first.

  • Why can't you deduct 2 from -3 prior to multiplying by (x+5)? that's just a random thought of mine.

  • Due to order of operations (Parenthesis - Exponents - Multiplication - Division -Addition - Subtraction), you need to first take care of the multiplication designated by the parenthesis following the negative three.

  • Thanks so much for responding loomatooma.

  • Wait shouldn't -15 be -17 as you subtracted 2 by -2 and -15 by -2? And since if you combine negative number you get more of the number/negative...?

  • If you have $2 in your bank account and you spend $15 on a t-shirt using your debit card, then how much money do you owe the bank?

    Therein lies your answer ;)

  • 13? in debt?....

  • Right, hence 2-15 = -13

  • Oh! ok then you been helpful......

  • haha touché, u cunning bastard

  • Still good info.
