Amazing how cats love to chase the dot. I had a laser pointer also and had the cat running everywhere for it.
What was even funnier was when it swatted the dot and then I turned the laser off and then after a few seconds the cat would lift its paw to see if the dot was still there. I then turned back on the laser and it continued to chase it trying to swat it again thinking it had escaped.

That was a little under standard ceiling height - all of my cats have jumped/fell from that height and been fine. One fell and a pile of boxes fell on top of him! AND one fell and landed on concrete. Anyone who thinks that cat wouldn't be fine is dumb - there were even stairs wrapping around under him.

Hang meat on a big fish hook from a limb on a tree in the backyard about three feet from the ground. Cat jumps up to get the meat, hooks himself, and dangles there waiting for you to put it out of its misery. A nine-iron or baseball bat works.
I tried this a few days ago on my cat, but he instantly seemed to realize that the light came from my laser pointer and dismissed the laser light. When I pointed it in front of him from another room - guess what! He started looking for me instead and came running to play with the actual device instead. Smart, wouldn't you say?!!

The cat would definitely be fine. My cat once lost balance on a balcony on the fifth floor and fell off, and he was completely fine after.

I tried this a few days ago on my cat, but he instantly seemed to realize that the light came from my laser pointer and dismissed the laser light. When I pointed it in front of him from another room - guess what! He started looking for me instead and came running to play with the actual device instead. Smart, wouldn't you say?!!
