  • Remember that the printheads (and there are 24 of them) are made of very frangible ceramic and they will shatter internally if you whack them hard with anything. Therefore you must be very careful to test your materials. It's a great machine when it does what the manufacturer claims, but it can be a difficult learning curve to get it there.

I find that both PrintMaster and International Paper Sub-24 envelopes in all sizes (even with window) down to A2 work well. Sometimes heavy is worse.

  • Here is a hint: if you load the printer with 50-100 envelopes and you print 5 as a test, if they have ANY sort of ink markings whatsoever ANYWHERE on the envelope except where the ink should be, you are going to have trouble. You will damage the machine unless you use a different envelope or find a way to hand-massage the ones you have so that they don't touch the printheads anywhere during their travel through the machine. Different kind/brand of envelope usually helps.

  • I am very disappointed in my HC5500 I have had to replace my printheads over and over after running envelopes. BEWARE There are alot of issues with this printer. :( Coleman

  • I have three of them and you are partially correct. I have run more than half a million envelopes through mine and the most important thing is to be very careful which kind of envelopes you run, which body, and be very careful with the paper handling. I ran 30,000 envelopes through the HC5500 this week with zero problems. But it depends on the kind of envelope. You must TEST and you must set the printer up properly.
