Something you DON'T want to do is soak it in the dreads, because you can risk not being able to get it out, especially with bleach that can break your hair from the inside if you don't absolutely get ALL of it out. Trust me, I have made this mistake and have personally ripped the end of a very weak dread off because of it. You just want to apply it to the outsides.

Mine are about three months now, and I found a dye brush at my local pharmacy store. Helped tonnes, but they definitely didn't go as light as i wanted, which was like a platinum for winter. But none of my local salons know how to dye, or dread really. Which super sucked, I love the copper in your hair! I wanna try that for summertime!

@TheMoneyfbgm people tend to think dreads dont grow but they actually do. they seem to grow slower because it starts to grow into the dreads and locks up as it grows, fyi ppl grow half a inch of hair every month. im asian and have staight hair, had dreads for almost 6 months and my dreads grow about 2 to 3 inches. Patients is all u need, yo dreads will grow dun worry

i just wanted to ask you a question my dreadz are almost the same colour as the copper dread that you have, they are 3 years old and i have only ever made them darker so i have never used bleach...yesterday and today i have tried with 2 different colours the first did nothing and the second turned my dreads a orange/yellowy colour (not nice!) do you know how many times i must reapply and if the yellow will go? i want the colour exactly like yours! thanku

@ellasplidge I can answer that...i've had almost 5 months of beauty school. I also have dreads :D anywho! one of the first things we learn in beauty school is that in using bleach it's completely different than regular color. in oder to get your hair blond your hair has to go through 7 stages of lightening and your hair being orange/yellow color is the two right before blond. in my experience in using bleach i don't think use left it on long enough.

@ellasplidge If you're suing box color look on the box to see what volume peroxide is used. 4 being highest and I would think you might need the highest volume you can find it will help with the lightening process. GOOD LUCK :D

@kryzallen getting dreads isnt really a racial thing. cavemen had them cuz they didnt know how to take care of their own hair. im native american too. (navajo) and i was gonna do my own dreads. personally i think everyone would look good in dreads.;)

Girl, you have to point out to rinse them VERY WELL after bleaching, or else it can cause breakage. Some people are complaining about the fact you said: massage them very well in. For me it's common sense to rinse out well, but in case some of us haven't this common sense ;)

hmmmm in stripes you say...THATS AN AWESOME IDEA!!!! that will look fantastic i reckon :D perhaps you could cover the bits you dont want to dye in something, perhaps loads of thick hairbands together round the dread, and then sort of paint the dye on the uncovered bits?? then wrap cling film round the dread to stop the dye getting onto other dreads? i dunno i will have to think about it more !!

@xxzxczx I did some of my locks in stripes a few weeks ago, they look wicked! It was really simple, though time consuming. First I bleached the ones I was going to dye; I made a couple of holes in a plastic bag and stuck the chosen ones through and wore it like a hat so the bleach wouldn't get on the rest. Once the bleach was out I held each lock out by the tip and used a tint brush to paint the dye (I used a Directions one, it's good and thick so doesn't run) on my hair in stripes.

@hannahclarke88 well u can wax which I was told would make your dreadlocks lock faster. The thing is u need to KNOW how to wax or else u lock slower then normally not to mention lost hours >.>. I passed on using any products in my hair. bow before my dreadlock mohawk :P

lol when i dyed mine like a week ago, my dye game with a brush XD but if that paint brush worked then sweet lol. and after i massaged the dye in the dread i used foil to separate the wet dread. cuz i only did the tips. yours look great. peace
