MMMmmm..not exactly. yes, in the 1600s, shah abbas of persia deported armenian merchands to persia, but they numbered some 150 000, and it is true, that a small fraction of those were repatriated in the 1800s by the russians,...but that does not mean that the entire population of armenia left armenia. in the 1600s, many germans were deported east of the volga, does that mean germany is no longer german? armenians have had a continued presence in armenia for 4000 years.

Not a small fraction. 50.000 from Turkey, 80.000 from Iran and around 30.000 from Middle East, Europe and Balkan. Don't froget about 50/50 Armenias in Russian Empire as well. That's how nation formed and eveybody knows about it. Pkus Ierevan were belonging to Azerbaijan from ancint times (Manna, Atropotena, Albania) and under pressure of new coming armenias and by help of Russia waa given to Armenia in 1918 where they formed a country. They weren't any large amount of armenias living in Caucas.
