In RPG Maker for Playstation, one trick to saving memory while constructing an RPG was to put several locations on the same dungeon matrix. It kinda seems like they did the same for Earthbound. This means the whole time, at anywhere in the game, a gestating Giygas is somewhere out in the void....

This game....keeps finding way to mind-fuck me....

Everything in the game is arranged on a giant map in the programming. It doesn't necessarily correspond to where the actual areas are, though. That's why you wound up in the places you did. Google "Earthbound map" and it should be the first result

Heh, it's pretty easy to get to moonside, go to the stairs in threed (the one where the zombies are blocking earlier in the game) then its in the upish area, to the right of magicant :p

Been screwing with this a lot... You can get pretty much anywhere in the game.

Doors only work if; A) You have a different layout up, like when your in room with the door you want to go in, but music from a different area is playing.

B) If you get stuck in the stairs motion (stuck moving diagonally up and down) You can get to the Cave of the Past from stairs in the Stonehenge base doing this. (which = Legendary Bat!)

definitely not a few minutes. There are certain events you need to do before fighting Giygas. The prayers end up messing up otherwise. I tried multiple things, but I'm convinced you at least need all 4 characters.

Why didn't checking the devil's machine trigger the final battle dialog?

Checking it would've done nothing normally anyway, it's when you get close to it that the event happens.

I'm guessing the walk through walls effect this has also prevents the triggering of hotspot events. I think doors might still work in some cases, so if this guy had gone in and out of the Giygas room entrance, the game would've returned to normal and the fight would've happened.

That's my theory anyway. I'll try it out sometime.
