Yeah the 70's BSG was product of its time just like Ron Moore's version... if BSG had have come back in the late 80's or early 90's it would have yet another different style and look that reflected the mood and culture of those days...personally i like both versions but have a real love for Larson's 70's version which was version of my childhood days ..its kinda like comparing 60's Trek to the 80's/90's Next Generation Trek
I loved the series. One clip in the video made me think. I don't think the mark two vipers could fly in a planets atmosphere unless is it was low gravity. The wings and tail are to small, would be enough lift. The Raptors weight its 30 tons, about a tanks weight, a viper would be I'd say about a third of that.
@DJEnterprise86 If they can create a device to be able to walk around in those ships, why wouldn't they be able to create one to make those vipers and raptors levitate? :)
I'm glad they kept the good ideas from the original series, but adapted it away from being a Star Wars " clone " like the original series ( Or perhaps the original series was a mixture of Star Wars, Lost in Space, with a touch of Trek ). I couldn't stand ANOTHER space ship that was a flying 70's style disco like original BSG had !!
& Space ships with discos, Colonial warriors with capes & ray guns.
The original had things that I kind of liked, but, the last incarnation had some more depth & wasn't all space casinos, alien 70's styles discos & whatnot.
Starbuck getting a sex change was a small price to pay, even though Katee Sackhoff looks like MacAuley ( sp? ) Caulkin's older sister or cousin.
The final 5 were survivors of that war who left to find the original Colonials and arrived when the humans had already built their own machines Cylons and were at war. It took them almost 2000 years to reach the Colonies because they had lost FTL and only had slow sub-light.
The final 5 were not the Lords of Kobol. The 13th tribe were all Cylons. Cylons existed on Kobol. When the Lords of Kobol (the gods) kicked out everyone, the 12 human tribes went one way and the Cylons of that tme went another. The Cylons were "human" looking and created their own machine Cylons who rebelled and they destroyed each other. That's what the Colonials found when they reached Earth (the first one).
(continuation) so the original ro final five. were the new lords of cobal. who set out with the survivors of the last war on earth. set out to start the new colonies and a new generaton of colonial fleet surviovors. get it. " THIS HAS ALL HAPPENED BEFORE AND IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.
let tell you my take on both series. "all of this has happened before and it will happen again." the first series was what happened before. remember the original apollo said that the original cylons were reptiles, that made the robot versions. also there was a human looking cylon in the 1980's series, but that show was never finished. so we dont know how mankind and the colonials turned out. then years later it happened again all new players all same story. get it. and it will happen again.
So what you are saying is that the original BSG had to have happened many 1000's of years ago. My deduction then is that the current starbuck is a distant relative of the original starbucks child he had with the woman on the planet whom got sent back to the galactica and became the brain child on galactica 1980. This would be cause for a great story in this gap.
the cylons never copied humans. 5 were mad by humans to look as human as possible, and those 5 made 8 to look as human as possibly, they never decided to just look like humans.
Actually the final five are the ones that made the other 7 (minus an 8th model that was destroyed). So the current human form Cylons were made by Cylons as a decission by Cylons.
I really dislike the current BSG. I have tried to give it a shot but to many inconsistancies. Even the producers admitted going into the last two seasons he hadnt even decided who to make the final 5 until the last minute. Watch season 1 and 2 again... Stuff in Season 4 contradicts. Poor close to the serries.
the old serius is not nearly as good as the new one. i mean sure there are more sex scenes in the new one but the new one has better acters, better desiens for the ships, and a cooler admiral and XO
Thanks for agreeing with me. I don't mind remakes of old stuff at all, what gets me is lack of consistancy in the whole of a universe in something like this.
your both wrong, the 13th colony (earth) made 5 cylon models, those 5 cylon models made 8 other ones. the centorians demanded the reserection ability and the 8 models, the final 5 gave them it. One of the cylon models was jealus of the 7th cylon model so he boxed him in resurection hubs, he also got jealus of the final 5 so he killed them and when they ressurected they had no memory of them being the final 5.
I see your point but do you really think the kids of today would enjoy a lovey dovey tongue in cheek series like it was back in the day? I know lots of kids that are the age I was when watching this and they love it. When I told them Starbuck was a bloke the first time around first thing they said was "ugh! did they still kiss eachother?" lol
In the pilot episode of the new BSG, there are images of the classic Centurions (on that remote outpost). The Battlestar Galactica itself was also from that time period. I have not seen the original series, but I think that takes place when the Cylons first rebelled. I think the new BSG story goes that all that original series stuff (not the story part) was from the last war. As for the Pegasus, I think it's bigger and more advanced.
I agree that they are treating at least the technological aspects of the original series as being in the first Cylon War. I'm not sure if the Pegasus is much larger than Galactica, but it IS certainly far more advanced.
In the extended version of "Pegasus" in season 2, Admiral Cain states that the Pegasus is more than twice the size of Galactica, but with only half the crew.
It is not a continuation of the old series it is a remake. The old centurions were what the Cylonslooked like when they first made them, but in the orignal series the cylons were an alien race, also in the first episode of the original series the tweleve colonies are destoryed just like in the first episode of the new series.
It possibly the same class as the Valkyrie, which has not been named yet. Pegasus is of the Mercury Class and the Galactica is of the Columbia Class. Check out BattlestarWiki.
ive never seen the show and thats quite the spoiler

racetrack talk about the "Grav net" being
offline when a raptor looses gravity.
But how would the mark 2's fly they don't have
wings or flaps..just the engines in the back.

Why did they change it so humans created the Cylons in the new one.
In the old one, the Cylons were created by a Reptilian race of the same name ! Thtey should have kept it that way.
The new one has to many changes. I prefer the origional series better. Although it is hard to find origional clips on YouTube.

tho i like section that overshadows the montage in the new series
