He then took Jacks dad's form and convinced Locke to leave the island, and set in motion the events which lead to Locke's death.
When he died and his body was returned to the island, he took the form of Locke and manipulated Ben (by taking his daughters form) to kill Jacob, because he can't act against him directly. Hence the 'loophole'.
Well, he could have been talking about Illana and the Ajira people, or he could have been talking about the folks stranded in 1977 coming back to present day. They haven't really explained who exactly was in the cabin at that point, I'm guessing it wasn't Jacob, but the other guy he was talking to on the beach. His spirit may have been stuck there because of the ash circle, and since it was broken, he may have gotten out.

This Jacob was just a stand in, just a placeholder for the true reveal later down the line.

That's an interesting idea, but Christian has been in the cabin with Jacob before, and no one can be in two places at once, not even on Lost. I've heard another theory that Jacob is Jack's grandfather, meaning that Christian might have been on the island before, and was raised there.
Actually even on Lost, the same person can be at several places at once, as proved by these new episodes in season 5, them in the past and all, Sawyer seeing Claire give birth. I don't think Christian is Jacob though, actually I know he isn't Jacob. Jacob is a tormented ghost, either from the black rock, or something we haven't heard of yet. Locke has abilities he or we don't know of yet, and Jacob is asking locke for help, because he know he can. That is one of Locke's destined things he has to do on the island.
Something is strange. If Ben is afraid of Jacob and if Jacob is a leader, why did Ben gave the order to Jacob to stop shaking the cabin. I think Jacob is one part of smokey(smoke monster). I think cabin is also an illusion of past time, when Dharma built it. Smoke monster has some sort of AI, and is choosing people which are allowed to be on island. For some reason, it didn't want pilot to be on it, and Eko in the late season. It probably has something to do with being a bad person.
i think jacob is a ghost, which is why they have miles the paranormal expert who talks to ghosts come along. if not, there is definitely some ghost action going on somewhere, why else would they bring him? a friend of mine suggests it has sometime to do with the black rock, maybe jacob is the ghost of it's captain?

Meh ... it could still be Jacob in the chair. Remember the early shots of Syar in Heroes? When Sylar's identiy was still a mystery they used a shadowed out stunt double for his scenes until they found a suitable actor. The stunt double looked nothng like the real Sylar.

I think Jack is Jacob, and Saheed is the smokey monster (Continous references that Saheed is a killer). I think Richard, Jack and Saheed set off the hydrogen bomb together and strange things happen to them all. Notice how Richard never ages across the timelines.

This Jacob was just a stand in, just a placeholder for the true reveal later down the line.
it's pretty obvious Jacob is someone we've known all along, how disappointing would it be if he was just an unknown guy that we've never seen before.
He might not necessarily be played by one of the current actors, if it is a new cast member he'll be playing an older version of a character we've being watching all along.

exacly, thats y im subscribed to smolesiuk, and theorizing about lost is half the experience. i lov how lost never answers big questions, it leaves room for silly thoughts like the jacob acronym lol. and yes, i dont think jacob is anything but himself, however, the writers said in a podcast that jacob has been seen before but as a non speaking role, and the only character on the show i can think of that fits both categories is the black smoke but i dont think those two are connected.

i think jacob is not one person, but a group of 5 people from lost. maybe these same 5 people are the whisperers, and most of them are some how connected (all but ben). this explains why christian talks for jacob, because he is not part of jacob himself but is related directly to 4 of the members. just a thought

Jacob is going to show up in the Season 5 finale. he visits young sawyer at his fathers funeral in 1970 he will be played by Mark Pellegrino so no he was not in the pilot or any orther episode for that matter.

I heard a convincing argument that it was actor Clancy Brown, who played the role of Kelvin Inman, the man that trained Sayid how to torture and who was stuck with Desmond in the hatch for 3 years. It sounds like his voice alright.

Sorry but if you watch season 4 they already dispel that theory when Locke goes into the cabin and asks Christian if he is jacob he replies "No, but I can speak on his behalf!" or something like that. Apparently, what I keep hearing is that we have already seen Jacob in a non speaking role in season 1.

no i dont think jack is jacob because you can clearly see that jacob has light brown or blondish hair and he has a diffrent shaped nose.i may be totally wrong but am i the only one who thinks that jacob could be christ himself i mean he looks like him beard and long hair and if you watch the episodes you hear people saying things like god loves you like he did jacob or jacob loves you, jacob= jesus hmmmmm?? maybe jacob is the anti christ and locke is christ or maybe i could be talking shit.

I dont think Jack is jacob now either. The is definately a huge religous presence in the show in terms of references and so forth, but I dont think anything will be so blatant as to say a character is a religous figure. Apparently we have already seen Jacob in the pilot episode and he has a non speaking role, I think he has to be someone off the island and is in the flash back.

That's an interesting idea, but Christian has been in the cabin with Jacob before, and no one can be in two places at once, not even on Lost. I've heard another theory that Jacob is Jack's grandfather, meaning that Christian might have been on the island before, and was raised there.

Actually even on Lost, the same person can be at several places at once, as proved by these new episodes in season 5, them in the past and all, Sawyer seeing Claire give birth. I don't think Christian is Jacob though, actually I know he isn't Jacob. I dont even think Jacob is anyone we have seen before, because he could be some immortal person like Richard, the Egyptian looking guy.

Jacob is someone we've seen, but hasn't talked. Damon and Carlton, the writers/executive producers said this. I just read that interview. So, Jacob has been on the island. We just haven't noticed him.

I don't think the physical appearance matters so much because they cast the prop guy as Jacob. All we know is that he's old and psychic, or at least has psychic abilities. Which previously led me to believe Jacob is Claire's psychic.

I think the real question is who was or who will be Jacob. Cabin obviously travels through time and space same as the island did...We can't say for sure when cabin was first, in which time and space, and from which time and space Jacob arrived. But, I think Jacob's from the past, because of his ugly clothing.

Jacob is a tormented ghost, either from the black rock, or something we haven't heard of yet. Locke has abilities he or we don't know of yet, and Jacob is asking locke for help, because he know he can. That is one of Locke's destined things he has to do on the island.

Something is strange. If Ben is afraid of Jacob and if Jacob is a leader, why did Ben gave the order to Jacob to stop shaking the cabin. I think Jacob is one part of smokey(smoke monster). I think cabin is also an illusion of past time, when Dharma built it. Smoke monster has some sort of AI, and is choosing people which are allowed to be on island. For some reason, it didn't want pilot to be on it, and Eko in the late season. It probably has something to do with being a bad person.

i think jacob is a ghost, which is why they have miles the paranormal expert who talks to ghosts come along. if not, there is definitely some ghost action going on somewhere, why else would they bring him? a friend of mine suggests it has sometime to do with the black rock, maybe jacob is the ghost of it's captain?
