I heard about the pizza shop, now this one. I think if the person was overweight BEFORE the injury, the company should not have to pay for the weight loss surgery. THIS IS WRONG! The company is not responsible for them needing the WLS. Workers Comp is already abused, and now this.... WRONG WRONG WRONG!
that is just sad that this could open the door to weight discrimination... especially considering that the majority of the workforce in the US is considered overweight..
It is sad. I guess we have to hope for a world that and culture that supports health education, an active lifestyle, at an early age, and prevention of the need for wls. Also, we can hope for work environments that support employees in leading a healthy and balanced life by having programs that incorporate activity, family, education, etc. that support a healthy and balanced life.
Ohio Health considers bariatric surgery "cosmetic." I find this a bit outrageous, since most bariatric patients consider weight loss surgery a means of saving their health, and possibly their life.
